Glad I’m skipping this gen. 4am preorder? Screw that.
Sure would be nice if a site that focuses on Apple News would get the skinny on why, after over a decade of basing their pre-order schedule on west coast time Apple flipped to east coast, though.

Hello, question - I want to pre-order this (first time doing so for an iPhone) and pick up in store.

I do NOT want to get it shipped and wait a trillion years for it to arrive. Can I do this from pre-order tomorrow? Thanks!

Every year mine arrives on the same day it’s available in the stores.

We'll soon find out.

Reducing friction to make things easier to use, or solving problems in novel ways, is Apple's strength and in their wheelhouse. This is where Apple will shine letting non-tech/enthusiast people *easily* use AI to assist in a very wide variety of everyday situations.

I expect this will be used extensively and be ultimately taken for granted as a tool within a year's time.

I don't think any company, anywhere, will make AI a taken-for-granted feature within a year. Five years, minimum, if at all.

I'm just not as bullish on the utility of AI for the average person. Within business, perhaps. The general public and their personal life? No time soon.

AI just isn't isn't interesting enough to useful to everyone.

No such thing as a “West” time zone, it’s Pacific. Alaska and Hawaii are further West than the Pacific time zone.

I have zero experience with AI, and it didn't at all factor into my upgrade decision process. I've never even once used anything like ChatGPT, and I rarely use Siri on my phone, except maybe to set a timer or something simple. With that said, I don't hate that the AI capabilities are there and I look forward to playing around with it and learning more about it at my leisure. Learning and using new things is fun. It may not be particularly useful to me, or it may be something I'll get into and use quite a bit.

Sounds good...

We'll come back to this post one year from now (I've set a reminder). And see how uninteresting AI is in the manner Apple will be making it super easy to use as a productivity tool for the masses (ie, not limited to tech enthusiasts), still is. :)

By that time Apple customers will have employed it on their iPhones/iPads and computers for a ton of situations/uses. I can think of a couple dozen just of the top of my head in a minute or so.

Again... it's about what Apple is really good at, ie reducing friction permitting regular people doing interesting, creative, and productive tasks/things.

Me thinks people can get them easily this time.
I reckon you're right, this time around we probably won’t have to sit around for days or weeks to get our hands on a 16 Pro or Pro Max. Seems like a lot of folks lookin’ to upgrade might just grab themselves a used 15 Pro instead, either from secondhand shops or by waitin’ for the next release.

I tend to upgrade early too, but it feels like folks like us are a dyin’ breed—fewer and fewer are stickin’ with the early adopter crowd these days...

Most people wont even remember or know it's AI, but they'll get used to the things it can do. Especially when it comes to photos and such. My mother couldn't care less what is doing it behind the scenes but if this whole AI thing for her is to improve her photos app to the degree it will? Awesome.

The fact is, AI, yes, most people won't know. Those cool new features they find and quickly become dependent on? They're much different. I mean, for business, the best a lot of people can hope for is when the mass layoffs happen, it won't be too much. I wouldn't want to be someone in tech support right now.

I miss the times when I had to get up in the middle of the night to get my order in, was part of the pre-order experience :)
Yeah that was Steve’s era, seriously I miss that too! I used to watch these launches with big jar of popcorns. I really miss that. I was too crazy with apple products but Tim screwed it by his innovation!!!!!

The bigger screen, AI additions, and camera changes have some analysts thinking this could be a super cycle. Keep in mind most people aren't on Macrumors and don't have iPhone 15s.
I agree with your last statement. Since iPhone 13 basically its same phone just changed camera lens placements 😂😂

Is anyone else a member of the iPhone Upgrade Program not able to get their preorder set up?
It says I'm not a member of the iUP even though I am. Apple support doesn't seem to have a fix for this either.
That sucks. Hope you get it fixed. it works fine for me

I am (was) a member, skipped last year. Ordering this year. Got first a message 'you are an upgrade member' walked through the pre-order, and then it told me I was no longer a member. Had to order as new phone (would have that expected in first place, just wired how it first tried to go through the upgrade and then failed). But all set now for tomorrow.
If you skip a year then they close the account because you already paid the full 24 months Tim Apple took your money and ran hard! Now instead of getting half the price as a upgrade program member you are now stuck getting nerfed trade in offers from Apple. Tim Apple is smart. He set up iUP in such a way that even if you did get iUP on launch day Apple can on a whim change the launch day and rake in millions of extra monthly payments...

Does anyone know when Amazon UK will sell the new iPhone? I see them listed now but only as ‘unavailable’. I just have Amazon gift cards I want to use towards the purchased.
Thanks!

Good luck to everyone who is pre ordering today. Begins at 5 30 pm local time in India.

I don't disagree with you that it might be a reason, I absolutely disagree with you and analyst saying that this will be a super cycle like this release of the 16 is some watershed moment. It's just another year and another model.
Have you missed the massive amount of hype that has been surrounding AI lately?

I am one of those who will be updating for the AI. I’ll be updating from a 12 Pro and it’s the first time I’ve been honestly excited about an update since the 10.

I haven't missed it, but I've also noticed that it is mostly promoted/talked about/hyped by IT and technie types. I don't work in IT, don't really associate with anyone in IT, and in my circles and with my coworkers, no one is talking about, using it, or caring.

I work in medicine, for example, and while there is some interest in the industry, my company has an absolute no-exceptions block on using AI for anything job related. It's not accurate, it's not HIPAA approved, and there is no legal accountability for accuracy.

That’s not a universal view. There have been a number of studies recently finding that properly used AI improves the accuracy of human doctors in medical diagnosis. I’m not a doctor myself, but had an appointment with a medical specialist the other day who is already openly using AI in his practice.

I don’t work in IT myself, but do work for a government research agency. Many of us are using consumer AI tools in our day to day coding work and my organisation recently evaluated CoPilot for office use, reaching the conclusion after a trial that we can’t afford not to be using it.

last year, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max were basically sold out everywhere near me within a couple of hours.

this year, it seems very strange that iPhone 16 Pro Max in all colors(except black) and 256gb or 512gb are still widely available for Sept. 20 pick-up at 3 or 4 Apple Stores around me.

does this mean there's a lot less demand? or did Apple make too many iPhone 16 Pro Max?
