Anyone remember the days when lining up outside at an Apple store to purchase a new copy of Mac OS X for $129?

I never lined up, but I do remember having to budget for it. As a starving college student, $129 used to sting a bit!

Coming from Big Sur, will Software Update download the full installer so that I can create a bootable USB using createinstallmedia? Or will it be a delta update? Wondering if I should use Software Update, or download it through the App Store.

I would think it should be able to go from Cat to Mont as an update, but there is this for the full installer:

Once downloaded, all you need to do is install the pkg and the full installer of macOS will be in your applications folder. This change was made when Apple revised the full installer for Big Sur. The InstallAssistant.pkg is not available for Catalina or Mojave.

I've just moved the installer to a backup folder to install when I think it's convenient. I don't want to go straight to Monterey because of device compatibility. My audio interface (apogee element 46) got full BigSur compatibility only recently, so I doubt it will be fully compatible with Monterey.
