Would it look silly talking on it? Maybe just a tad.

So tons of benefits of going to the larger size, the only drawback is looking silly once in a while when I am in public and do not have my headphones (very rarely). It's a no brainer to me.

Not really. You do realize by year's end millions of people will have the 6+, so you won't look as ridiculous as you might think. Several people directly around you will ALSO sport an iPhone 6+, talking into their phones...

I'm not sure why people are so concerned about what other people might think of them when using the 6 Plus. If people are that worried about how they look with a phone, they really do need counseling. If you are buying a smartphone based on how other people might think you will look with it, you really do not need a smartphone, as smartphones are for smart people, not fools.

After watching a few more videos and reading up, I'm going to get the 6 I think and cancel my ordered plus.

Battery life on my 5S wasn't an issue, rarely went below 80% and I have chargers everywhere I go. The bedroom, kitchen, HiRise on my Mac, the car, desk at work. I even have a portable charger that I can take with me if I go out for the day and use GPS. That used to charge my 5S more than twice from nearly discharged.

OIS - real world usage, bet it won't make a difference apart from maybe low light situations- burst mode on my 5S always got me to pick a great shot

Resolution - Does the plus constantly downscale? It's going to take more processing power to push the extra pixels as well as the downscaling it will constantly have to do. Probably not noticeable however?

Size - I commute 4 days a week, and occasionally have to make calls. I think it's going to look daft making a call on that. 129g instead of 172g also.

That said, I'll reserve judgment till Friday when I can hold both in store. Also sways it for me that I have preordered for pickup the 6 for Friday yet the plus is nearly 4 weeks from being delivered. Oh and the £80 I'll save.

Hope everyone is happy with what they purchase, I can see the plus suiting a lot of people out there, just don't think it's for me.

I raise your stupid big phone i6 plus pic with a tiny i6 pic, Hansel!

Then I guess us regular iPhone 6 users will be hipsters.

Phones aren't getting smaller, they're getting bigger. Back a few years ago I saw a lot of 4 inch screens (or less), and now I see 5 inches and beyond quite frequently. I think that 6+ sized phones will be a lot more common in the country. I'd even go as far to say that at some point, people using 3.5-4 inch screens might look like flip phone users by 2016.

Man, you must really think you are important to make your own thread trying to convince people to get the iPhone 6 over the 6 plus.

embarrassing.

Doesn't anyone use their headsets? I also think the 6+ is way to large for my personal preference. But my solution is gonna be to not hitting my face with the device rather than to use the headset :)

If you claim to not understand caring about what other people think, I'd love to spend 15 minutes with you in person dissecting that lie. We all care what others think, some more than others, but we all care.

I have yet to meet anyone who does whatever they want, all the time, irregardless of what other people think. For one, they'd be chronically unemployed, but socially? Wow. Just wow....

Folks need to stop judging people who are honest about caring what other people think just because they think they are somehow better than they are because they claim they don't. They do. They are hiding behind a computer right now or I'd prove it. It's really easy to make statements like "looks don't matter" when no one can see how ugly you are. Of course they do. We live in the most vanity driven society in the history of mankind, right or wrong. It is what it is.

It is absolutely correct that if only a handful of people were going to be using the 6 Plus it'd probably look odd. Thankfully there will be millions of users holding the behemoth up to their ears, so it won't be as bad. Based on the numbers, in a few months you probably won't be able to meet ten new people without finding someone that owns one.

So if it matters (and it always does) don't let "looking ridiculous" sway you. Heck, in a few months it may even be "cool" to have a giant phablet. Apple has a way of doing that.

Looked at the Samsung Note 3 today for size comparison. The Queen held it to her ear and said: No, I don't think so.

Found similar size to 6 and looked at 6 cases. We have a winner.

Do you care what I think of your use of the non-word "irregardless"? ;-P

My iPhone is used 95% as a content receiver (mails social etc) and around 5% a telephone.

I now have decided that I would like my experience to be an IO8 6 + one.

I really like the a big phone. I have note 3. But handle it with one hand is a burden to me. Especially when in a rush for something in work, im working in a construction environment, where holding a big size AO drawing construction paper and no where to put the drawing at site and at the same time i need to use my phone for text or call, then its difficult to handle it in one hand. After that i buy 5s and problem solve. Would like to buy the 6, but still debating either 6 or 6+..unable to decide yet..

Was the image really necessary
Of cause it was. Have to ram home that point. For a phone the 6+ will most certainly feel like that in real world Phone usage scenarios.

This debate is absurd. Different strokes for different folks. For me, the slightly larger screen will allow me to do many new things on the phone I carry all the time that I did not think was easy to do on the smaller screen. Moreover, I no longer need to own an iPad Mini which I used to read book during my commute. Games, notes and many new things will be more optimal on the larger screen. For those who value portability over all else then the 4.7" is fine but in that case, those folks should not be upgrading at all. The 6 is pretty big compared to the 5S.
So that is where the "smaller is better" argument falls flat on its face.

What about the folks who want portability and the latest features? Apple doesn't do both anymore so there is a debate here. And a tough one indeed. How much of a compromise do we need to take and which phone is the best for us as there is no perfect phone. The perfect phone would be a 5s (or even 4s) sized 6. Doesn't exist so we have to work out of what does exist what is the best for us. And it's not an easy decision at all.

I personally am torn about it. I want portability and the latest features (to upgrade from my iPhone 1). Apple no longer makes this. So I have to decide out of what does exist what is the best for me. Hard decision indeed.

Two interesting comparisons:

I might have to swing by an Apple store and hold the 6+. According to the chart, battery life is better on the larger phone. :)

Going by your top picture the 6L looks stuck in no-mans land. Not really sure what it's trying to be.

I think in time we are going to see Plus owners being rather red faced with the many jokes that are going to be aimed their way (original picture being a prime example).

It's just not a phone in the sense of being convenient to carry around day-in-day out. If I see anyone using one I'm going to think "what a pillock" and have a wry nudge at their expense.

Perhaps in the US it's more acceptable to think bigger is better, but elsewhere I think common sense will prevail about what a phone is (a PHONE) .. to be carried conveniently, not cumbersome like it will be by most Plus owners.

Very well said. Wish more people understood this.
Well one would hope common sense prevails.

Want some free advice? Stay out of the Apple store for a while. Once you fondle a 6+ I suspect you'll be changing your mind...

I think you will be surprised. People won't flock to the 6+ after using both as fast as you think. But that's why I recommend anyone on the fence not to pre-order and to use them in the  store to see for themselves. I'll certainly be doing this.

Small steps is best. Go from the 4" to the 4.6" and use it for a year or so. THEN if you feel it, jump to the 5.5".

Jumping from the 4" iPhone to the 5.5", just because people seem to think its "the flagship" or "Elite" model - is asinine!

Maybe some iPhone users are already used to big phones. Like me for instance, I currently use a 5S but have also used a Note 3 so if I got the 6 Plus I won't be surprised by the size at all and I won't have any difficulties using it whatsoever.

I was very tempted with the 6+ but after the reviews, glad I didn't - purely because some reviews described it as a "two handed phone"... done that before, didn't like it. Ability for one handed operation is important to me.

Sure 6+ has nice features such as dual panel etc, but its really too big IMO, also for portability.

My initial reaction when the phones were announced was that Apple missed the mark with both phones. Top/bottom bezels in particular were too big making both phones unnecessarily larger than they needed to be. Argh! Personally, I wanted a screen size in between the two.

So what to do: I travel for business each week and have 4S, iPad mini Retina and 15 MBP Retina. The iPad mini is used 99.9% for consuming content (videos, internet, etc...). I decided to give the 5.5 inch 6 plus a try to see if I can consolidate devices: use the 6 plus to replace both the IPad Mini & iPhone 4S. My only concern is the physical size of the 6 plus (ie seems way too tall to easily carry around all day in my Pocket like I do currently with my 4S).

My 6 Plus arrives Friday. I'll test out the plan next week while traveling. If the 6 plus proves unwieldy for my everyday use, I'll swap it for the 4.7 inch 6 and call it a day (and keep, the iPad mini).
