Why not just give people the option of choosing a battery icon or percentage under the battery settings? Doesn’t have to be both. For me personally, I prefer seeing a % and it’s why I use the battery widget.

So if they are going to keep the body of the battery icon filled for legibility, why not simply have it turn gradually from deep green to lighter green to yellow, orange, then red? That removes the need to deal with the line that intersects the numbers as the battery depletes. It would provide an immediate indication of the general status by its color. I think most people are familiar with the idea of a green to red gradient to indicate health. And if the digits were black, they would be more legible.

This is so silly. I saw other news publications put headlines like
C354F29B-94F4-4C2C-8933-8098EECD42A2.jpeg

and I just can’t see what the big deal is.

We should have an option to customise the status bar in its entirety - that would be a new feature. This in itself is not really a feature at all in my opinion. I already get a good enough estimate with the existing battery glyph and on the off chance that I need to see the exact estimated battery life percentage remaining, it’s literally just a swipe down.

It takes me more effort to unlock the phone with a swipe up, or do pretty much anything else on the phone, than it does to check the battery percentage.

🤷🏻‍♂️

Give me a break, y'all. I see the number, I don't need a visual to tell me that 15% is also in the red and depleted. 15% means it's empty. Everyone is getting really picky about the smallest minutiae.

I can imagine a series of steps like this:
Lots of complaints and criticisms.
Apple offer several alternatives, each of which address some of the issues. (And only fail at all when there are contradictory requirements.)
Apple's statistics show fewer than one in a thousand ever change the settings throughout the life of IOS16, and maybe 17 as well. New and existing phones.
Apple decide to stick with just the one that almost everyone chose.

I've gotton used to swiping down to check it via control center. However, the version in the current beta doesn't look satisfying. How about offering multiple options Apple? You can do it for the Lockscreen after 15 years too.

Version A looks better in my humble opion. Second 'best' is option B. Option C and the Brian suggestion don't feel right to me.

Greetings

I just hope the make the font bigger and at least add an option to make the text always black. All the SS on here it's nice and big, but on the phone it's small. The ones with borders might be good, but I'd have to see it on my phone real size

Over 50% I agree showing full battery icon. Guys, it's not about hitting 100% and staying there, it's about showing at a glance whether you got enough juice. Below 50%, level should be half or less and red at 20%

This is a stupid change. The visual indication of battery level should take precedence over the numerical indication, so you can gauge it at a glance. Just put it back Apple. Or design some kind of hybrid icon.

Classic Apple - reinventing another feature far behind everyone else and still being able to create problem ;) Sometimes trying so hard to do all Apple way is just not practical.

😂

Do all these people still not realize that it’s in beta? If anyone is gonna perfect a design in their UI, it’s gonna be Apple.

There’s nothing “controversial” about this. And if they decide to leave it like it is, so be it. I’m good.

Why would Apple change it for the final release if no one is giving them feedback about why they don't like the current iteration? I agree that this is not a big deal, and I think people are reading too much into this. I don't think anyone makes this out to be a huge deal. But it never hurts providing feedback, otherwise, you can't really expect anything to change.

There is no room. Well there is room if you want to make fonts and elements so small that you need microscope to see them, otherwise no, there is no room

If you would move them a bit and lessen the spacing you could probably fit it just fine. You also have room on both sides of the icons in the top right corner.

It’s silly to complain about such a minor thing. Design could probably be better, but I’m just happy that this feature is avaible again.
“ design could be better “ when a $90 android phone has this feature YEA , IT SHOULD BE BETTER.

Proposals:

1. Have the green battery full green outline inside the white the whole time it’s green, and only show part empty for yellow and red.

2. Have colored outlines inside white (or black depending on wallpaper) for battery color with no indication of full or empty.
That's actually a great idea. But Apple likes it keep it simple. It might be too complicated for them.
