Well, the new case appears taller, so that's what immediately popped into my mind as well.... additional spare charges, and possibly also slightly elongated AirPods even, to last longer between charges.

A Jet Black color option would probably make a lot of people happy.
Yeah additional spare charges would be nice, although I don’t think the AirPods should get longer, I don’t think I would mind if it was quite small and meant better battery life. I think a big reason for the revision could be Bluetooth 5 as well.

BT 5 has no impact on the audio quality. Range would be an aspect. But the 1. Gen is good enough as I heard. I´ve used my AirPods 3-4 times until know. My phone is nearby or my AW is on my wrist (Now I´ve got a reason to sync my favorite albums to my watch).

i guarantee you that nothing about the earpods changed. no longer battery life or design changes. it is just the case.

in the code it says rev 1.2 and the original is 1.1

Would be really funny if they bring real improvements with gen 2.
Apple is going to a point where most people can’t afford the newest generation devices in all classes anymore.
But I guess there will be always someone telling all others how much money they got and how cheap everything is.

Wait for the special bundle to be announced Tuesday. Biggest problem, potentially huge, for Apple would be people holding off on buying iPhone 8 and waiting for supply of iPhone X to catch up. That could even cause some folks to buy other phone for this year.

Genius move would be to include AirPods with iPhone 8 to push demand while supply remains constrained for iPhone X. Especially if it included new color. This would explain why supply of AirPods remained uncharacteristically constrained for almost a year with no improvement in supply as Apple would have needed to stockpile millions of AirPods to ensure bundle availability with new iPhones. Coincidentally, only as new iPhones have neared has AirPod shipping dates been reduced.

I think I’d rather drill a headphone jack hole into my new iPhone X rather than using this amazing technology that works so well.

I take these to be a redesign that likely will be a silent update with no internal changes. I've had some issues with the battery case failing to charge my AirPods even though the case was fully charged (2 exchanged under warranty) so I can see where Apple would want to go back to the drawing board but might not want to really publicize it too much.

I never said it did, although actually, hardware aside, it has the potential to impact quality since it can transfer more data than BT4. But when I spoke about better quality in the previous post I was referring to hardware changes. Yes, the first gen are good enough, there would be the question of whether Apple will still sell them at a lower price but I don’t think there is enough of a difference, we’ll have to see. Even if Apple don’t, I’m sure it’d mean a price reduction elsewhere.

that is actually a valid point. i don't see why apple should still have problems producing these after a whole year. they're popular but not like everybody wants them and they're sold out all the time. could very well be that they bundle them up with another product

I wish that the case was flat on the bottom so that it could stand up on its own without falling over. As it is, if the lid is open, almost every orientation on a table causes the top to snap closed, and I have to hold the case open with one hand to put the AirPods back in. The only way to keep the top open handsfree is to lay it sideways on the table, but then you can't really reinsert the AirPods.

So would it be fair to say all you people with AirPods with the LED on the inside of the case are using yesterday's technology and you're holding up progress now that Apple has shown us the way? When will you join the future and throw away your outdated, antiquated gen 1 AirPods and replace them with these updated models? This ancient 'LED on the inside' technology is dead already, surely... I predict in 2 months' time no-one will be using anything but AirPods with the LED on the outside of the case. ;)
This is new OLED technology - shame mine are iLED

Maybe they'll have volume control too?

Is this so you can be charging your iPhone and listening to your AirBuds in another room? The current range seems pretty far for an iPhone resting in your pocket and AirBuds in your ears.
Yes, I love walking around my house or work without having my phone on me.

Same here. I wonder if we get volume control without needing Siri.

That is the only thing I need on the buds.

Some touch controls would be good. Double tap to skip, and a touch sensor to slide up and down for volume or something crazy helpful like that.

Instead of "hey Siri increase volume 25%"

Siri: "no internet connection"

Im surprised they are bringing out a updated version of the AirPods. I think it will just be minor updates but I think there next version (2.0 - 2018) will include more sensors to capture data in to health. One of these will probably be a thermometer to capture in-ear temp for the health app.

Could these just be a prototype for the ones we got last December? The current AirPods look like a refined version of these. The light is neatly tucked away and activates on opening (maybe an M co-processor would be needed for the new ones) and the button is lower so isn't likely to be pressed when holding on the current ones too. Not sure I get this design interation

Inductive charging. I'm calling it. :p

...or how about a 'lite' Siri for offline functions that don't really require an internet connection. I'm really annoyed that Siri can do basic device functions (like volume, play/pause) without an internet connection. It's 2017 FFS!
