Here's Your First Look at the New Version of Apple's AirPods

For the first time, I spotted someone wearing AirPods. They were so conspicuous that I actually noticed them in my peripheral field of vision. It's an understatement to say they look odd. They made the same impression as the earlobe stretchers that body piercers wear. I wouldn't mind a pair for home use, but I wouldn't wear them in public.

That's what people used to say about people wearing headphones in general. The first few times it looks odd... then it's totally unremarkable.

...and I really DGAF what people think of me, so I'm good.

They're so comfortable and stable that when they're not playing anything and I'm running/cycling, I have to check that they haven't fallen out as I can't feel them!

Perhaps faster binding time. Swapping between iPhone and computer can take ~3 seconds. It really is nitpicking because they are awesome, but that's what I would improve. Battery life is fine for my usage.

So would it be fair to say all you people with AirPods with the LED on the inside of the case are using yesterday's technology and you're holding up progress now that Apple has shown us the way? When will you join the future and throw away your outdated, antiquated gen 1 AirPods and replace them with these updated models? This ancient 'LED on the inside' technology is dead already, surely... I predict in 2 months' time no-one will be using anything but AirPods with the LED on the outside of the case. ;)

Some of us are 'old school' and use AirPods the way god intended - with the LED on the inside of the case.

I had a pair of the first gen and they were brilliant, for about 10 minutes at a time. Seems the little notch at the bottom of my ear is too wide, and bowed outward, and given a bit of hair, prevented the AirPods from securely sitting in the intended location. So each time I moved, bent over, or just sat still, my AirPods would pop-out; it was always just a question of how long before they did.

While they were in my ears, they were great, and I would recommend them to anyone. Don't worry if you have ears like me, just try them, and if you do, you can return easily and at apple's cost.

I just hope that future versions will be made for people like me. I had to buy BeatsX as the alternative, and while I am satisfied with them, I would still prefer the compact solution (and extra features, like beam formed microphone) of the AirPods.

Inductive charging. I'm calling it. :p

...or how about a 'lite' Siri for offline functions that don't really require an internet connection. I'm really annoyed that Siri can do basic device functions (like volume, play/pause) without an internet connection. It's 2017 FFS!

I feel that way about adding reminders too

I guess I'll just look doubly odd with my stretched ear lobes and AirPods then

The sooner you realize this, the sooner the rest of your life begins!

But anyway, this seems more like a minor revision than a new version assuming the redesigned case is the only improvement...I guess we'll know tomorrow for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone who has ordered AirPods from Apple over the past few weeks, but hasn't received shipment confirmation yet, end up being sent the newer ones.

I agree 100%. I love these things, and I live in a city where these are becoming more prevalent, so it's becoming more odd to see people with wires hanging from their ears.

Shades of the Star Bellied Sneetches.

He's already on payroll to do exactly that...leak.

Stop this.

I wish they would produce a model that would stay in my ears. I am one of those people whose ears just don’t hold the AirPods or EarPods well.

As I'm understanding it, just a refresh to the case to allow for wireless charging, and the charging indicator light on the outside of the case.

Yeah, one of the recaps I saw said "Optional AirPods Case", so I assume that means you have to buy it on your own. Maybe they will have a bundle you can buy with the case and the charging pad when it is released. I'm thinking the new case will not be packaged with AirPods until Version 2 is released.

I just bought 2 pairs a month ago and have the led inside. What gives? I got old versions when the new one has been out for 4 months??
