I uninstalled the app before Apple puled it from the store when it notified me that it wanted to download something on my iPad when I requested to hide an app.

When will Apple add the ability to password protect individual Apps? The feature has been available on Jailbreaks for years. I don't see why this feature hasn't been added yet.

I don't even have kids, but I can imagine that many people would appreciate the ability to entertain their kids with a game or App, without having to worry about them going into other apps and screwing with important personal and business documents and settings. If someone ask to see my phone to look something up on the web or Maps, I'm hesitant because they can easily click on Mail, Photos, Contacts, or other Apps and start looking at stuff I don't want them to.

This feature should have been available several versions ago, if not right out of the gate on the original iPhone. It's insane that we are at iOS 6 and it's still not available. Instead of worrying about privacy and security, Apple seems to be more interested in integrating Facebook and Twitter, two services that only cause more concern for personal privacy.

It's rather unfortunate this app was pulled as I would have used to it get around clause 14-3 of the Rules of Golf.

Currently an iPhone cannot be used as a distance measuring device because it contains other apps which cannot be removed (unless you J/B which I don't want to do), namely measure direction and temperature.

A multi-functional device, such as a smartphone or PDA, may be used as a distance measuring device provided it contains a distance measuring application that meets all of the above limitations (i.e., it must measure distance only).
In addition, when the distance measuring application is being used, there must be no other features or applications installed on the device that, if used, would be in breach of the Rules, whether or not they are actually used.

It's a bit unfair that a £200 GPS unit is legal, any other smart phone is legal yet the iPhone is banned.

Wow, this thread has become a feeding frenzy.

Anyway, does this app have any hidden malware in it?

I happened to run it, and now there's an iOS Diagnostics app that wouldn't go away when I switch apps. Also, there seems to be another app with a black screen that would exit after a few seconds of switching to it. Neither app show as a regular open app in the multitasking bar.

And there seems to be no way to make these apps disappear, even after restarting the iPad.

I'm wondering if this app had an additional hidden agenda as a trojan or other malware.

How do you know if these apps have disappeared or not if they're not showing up in the multitasking bar?

Although this is wildly off topic, I'll tell you what they are interested in: having you buy one iPhone/iPod/iPod for each member of your family so you can all have your own secrets. And maybe buying an extra one just in case guests pop round.

Have they fixed it so you can finally put Newsstand into a folder?

----------

I love it when apologists tell me why I should be happy with the way Apple has things, because they clearly know best.

Can you explain a reason why Mail and Newsstand shouldn't be put in a folder?

I don't understand? I have a non-jailbroken iPhone 4 running iOS 6.1.2 and I have mail in a folder along with my Gmail app.??? to move newstand into another folder I used an app on my computer called stifle stand...

I rarely restart my phone, it works for me. The hiding iAds is really useful for me. When my daughter play games, she always click the ads and crying for my help. BUT the problem is, I can't find it in store.

When the phone is restarted the apps go back to their former place, so it's rather pointless. Hiding iAds is nice though.

Edit: iAds come back after restart as well.

does anyone have a link for the ipa? (assuming its allowed on here since it was free)

edit. nevermind, itll still have to be cracked even though its free. And I realise those links cant be on here.

mine does this too, do i need to reset my password ?
do i need to worry or something ?

Nope, that's normal behavior. Just a security measure from Apple, if someone got a hold of you idevice and used it to download something.

If you had read about the app, you'd realize the question about possibly having some kind of malware in it isn't a response to Apple pulling it, but rather the fact that it used an exploit to work at all.

It's amazing how many people scream malware over this app, while having no clue...so many people here have no clue *facepalm*

The app has a manual: for each program you want to hide (and this is all it does: it only hides the icon...it does not uninstall stock apps) it starts a fake download, but this one will never finish. It's download replaces the icon. You'll then just have to delete the download icon and everything is gone.

apple removed it...

And this is why we jailbrake our ios devices... AND are seriously considering moving to android for our next device!

Aww crap missed another good app. Still blows my mind that Apple won't let me delete my empty Newstand app, or Contacts, Compass, Videos, Stocks, Weather, Clocks, or Maps. All of which I NEVER EVER EVER EVER use.

don't surf porn on devices you give to kids
and if you do then download google chrome, surf porn, delete chrome, let kids play with your iphone, repeat

in the USA here i bet most people will just "buy" their kids free on contract iphones rather than ipod touch

Just restore your iPad to a backup you made before installing the software.

I was speaking for myself. It's too bad you can't figure that out.

Jailbreaking is now illegal. It's too bad you don't know that EITHER.

Let's hear some more BS.

What I think you don't know is that jailbreaking is NOT illegal. Unlocking to another carrier is though. The two are different.

Jailbreaking lets you install third party apps and unlocking lets you switch carriers.

Whoops eh? ;)

from what I've heard, many of the jailbreaking apps/tweaks that alter iOS (basically, the useful ones) are less than legal

jailbreaking an ipad remains illegal (i don't believe it was ever legal).

While that might be the first scenario you think of, that wasn't my point. I have emails and pictures from family and friends that don't have anything to do with porn. I would rather co-workers and friends not have access to this if they ask to borrow my phone to look something up.

While I don't have a kid, I can imagine a 3-10 year old kid could easily cause some headache for someone by purposefully or accidentally switching apps and deleting or modifying documents.

The least Apple could do is make a "guest" log in option, where you can designate it only having access to limited apps that the main user can specify. Kind of like how you can look up information on the web with Siri while it's locked, but can't access anything beyond that.

I am really surprised they didn't implement something like this when the iPad came out since it's even more likely to be shared between people than an iPhone or iPod Touch.
