I miss those days when the latest iPhone was automatically the greatest and the previous generation simply dropped in price. Now we get those Non-Pro devices and the „Pro“ ones keep getting more expensive

I think giving consumers more choice is a good thing. Not everyone wants or needs all of the bells and whistles. A $429 iPhone SE can be just fine for many people. Also, for those wanting/needing more, today's upper end iPhone prices are not necessarily that bad when you consider what some phones were going for in the past. For example, a 64GB iPhone 5 was $849 (unlocked/no contract) in 2012 which is about $1,065 in today's dollars. You can get a 128GB iPhone 13 Pro today for "less" (inflation adjusted) at $999.

That will be a guaranteed iPhone price increase then, they will never reduce their percentage of profits.

I think they tend to stick to price tiers on the phones. That said, given inflation, there could be a bump in the tiers. But that would be based on inflation, not profit margins. They do have target profit margin guidelines they give to their product teams; but for critical product lines such as iPhone, where they have market share targets, they adjust the pricing based on market analysis and component lifecycle forecasts. At least, that's how we did it at all the tech companies I worked at, and Apple has much more data and more sophisticated modeling available.

Or here in the Americas, why stick to Asia, where it is clear the US has no true allies; except Japan.
South Korea is pretty close, as they are entirely dependent on our military commitments and our markets. But the Trans-Pacific Partnership was designed to bring Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam into the fold. Oh, well.

Ah there it goes, our webcam from the brand new Studio Display. Now it makes sense why the webcam in the display is so bad…

Given Apple "quietly" increased the price of the standard iPhone models when they released the mini iPhone. ($699 to $799) I think they'll start the new 14 at $799.

So $6 instead of $2, thus allowing them to charge an additional $300 for this version.
That applies too pretty much every company who sells their goods whether it's electronic gadgets or automobiles. That's a lot of money if you multiply that into the millions. Apple is running a business not a charity. It's the person who decides if the price is too much.

“The best camera on an IPhone, ever!”.
A cost increase of 6 usd translates into 100usd for the the end user (the budget to justify that increase might be bigger than the actual cost of that hardware). Is that “fair”?, well, nobody said the capitalism was it, au contraire…

Everyone seems to be an expert here by laughing at the alleged price change from $2 to $6. However, let’s not forget that R&D costs way more than that.

And that is my problem now?
Well that depends how you look at this. If you plan on paying for this phone that has an ‘inflated cost’, then yes, it is your responsibility to pay the inflation passed on to you as a consumer. But you don’t have to pay/purchase the iPhone 14 either. You have choices.

Agreed, people act all entitled and aw-strucken that inflation will hit electronics. In the end, people will still purchase said device.

How convenient and a great excuse to raise the price to the first $2000,- high end price segment OR subscribe monthly for Apple Hardware. Well done Apple!

I’m waiting for the iPhone 15 hopefully by then the front camera is upgraded even more. I’m willing to pay $1500 for a Pro Max 128GB. They should add another tier above the Pro Max
