Smart. And this shows Apple gets we live in a FaceTime and Zoom world.

Now, how did that same company ship their first display in eons with a crappy webcam and buggy software? It's beyond comprehension. The camera, if made you look great, would be more important than the display itself to 80% of customers.

These people drive me crazy that act like it's a crime to make a good profit. Supply and demand. If people want it and are willing to pay it, why not?

Well that’s got a simple answer. If you abuse the market you taint it towards inflation which then ruins it for everyone. Yourself included. Short term gains always come with a long term cost that is yet to be defined.

Think of it like farming. You can do it a number of ways. One way is likely slower and bit more expensive but the land is likely to remain fertile for more harvests in the future. Cutting corners or stressing the ecological balance of the soil with various chemical catalysts would more likely yield the soil unusable for future farming.

Finite resources demand a degree of responsibility. Sadly human beings are more often than not driven by greed rather than pragmatism.

you sound like you just read an ayn rand novel lmao. of course they can do what they want to increase profits, just like we can make fun of them for it.

I really want to boycott anything that comes out of China, these days its so hard.... but with their support of Russia was the last straw for me. Yeah, its hard to boycott cheap disposable crap from China... but.... No high-dollar products from China for me.

No high dollar products? Why not go all in if you are that serious about it?

So $6 instead of $2, thus allowing them to charge an additional $300 for this version.
I read the total camera set up for the 11 was US$73.50 so I would assume it would be at least a little more than $2 for the front facing cam. Even so it will be their mark up on cost that does the damage.

Auto focus on the front camera sounds nice but as others said if they increase the price by 100$ cause manufacturing cost went up 5$ Apple is going to be in for a hurting. After the pathetic update of the XS and price increase with the XR Apple had to give out tons of discounts due to a drop in demand for that year.

Nope, that is a rumour, and if true it will be purely down to chip shortages, not cost cutting. They will increase the price still as the other components will still be costing them more. Apple doesn’t cost cut due to old chips, plenty of history to prove that.
Even if they did, they could add more cores or increase cpu clock speed.

Heh, the selfie camera is already pretty decent on current iPhones.

I'd rather appreciate a massive overhaul of the ultra wide camera, as it's barely usable because of the strong noise...even with decent light.
It'd be a very fun lens to use, but the loss in quality compared to the other lens (I have a regular 13) is embarrassing...

Apple should move their production line out from China. We want better quality products from Korea, Japan or Taiwan.

They could take a page out of Fender's book:

* iPhone 14 -- made in China
* iPhone 14 Pro -- made in ??? USA, Korea, Japan, wherever.

Or even just a "Premium" version, that is assembled elsewhere.

For a lot of the standard models Fender offer both made in USA and made in Mexico models. There really isn't as big of a quality difference these days (CNC machines don't care where they are!) but the American models cost more and many guitarists prefer them. They also have some minor differences, which aren't that big of a deal (21 v 22 frets); often you can take a Mexican model, add the pickups from a premium model, get a nice setup and you'll have a great instrument.

Apple could easily assemble the products elsewhere, heck find some run-down, low wage area of America and assemble the Pro/Premium model there.

Sure, why not? They (and no other company) charges customers the value of parts being used for the product. There is far too much more that goes into building the phone than the value of the parts used.

3 times maybe. But will not be having much impact in Apple’s profit. But looks like we will definitely see a price hike this year. I think maybe the Pro lineup will see a $100 increase.
