and believe me, a decent portion of the September 10 event will be about the new colour(s)

Less than a minute will be devoted to the colour.

They'll show the 5S, mention that it's now available in three colours including the new gold option, and maybe show a few pictures of it.

Most of the presentation will be about the new tech in the phone including—if rumours turn out to be true—the new innovative fingerprint reader.

This is a beautiful color and will probably out sale the white versions long as they make enough to do so.

"Gold"? Says who?

I don't understand why people are calling this a "gold" iPhone. This looks to be another white iPhone with a gold back plate (and sides). Should we now start calling the current white iPhone "silver"?

To be fairer, the Zeitgeist has changed. Not sure you can point at individuals.

It's the choice of the word. Everyone just flipped out thinking it literally meant "gold", posting ridiculous Elvis photos, "bling" rappers, shiny gold jewelry, etc. If the media just called it "champagne" instead of gold from the beginning, the reaction probably would've been quite different.

But at the same time, many of individuals who put Apple's downfall on the "gold" color are the ones who almost always on the side that Apple/iOS can do no right so that's expected.

Looks like a platinum to me.

I like it...now we have to see the front.

I'll have to decide between that and the white.

looks a lot better than the silver white one imo and i usually hate gold

White or Champagne to be my next iPhone ?

Which one is less girly? :D haha I can't wait either.

As for the color, this is far more subtle than I had thought from previous reports. It is not all that bad and will likely be a decent seller. I just really wanted orange. :( Why is everyone against me?! /s

I like how one of the first posts was someone saying "see, Apple chooses classy colors, unlike the competition with their cheesy multi colored plastic options!"

... you mean like the iPhone 5C?

definitely will buy it

I thought it was gonna be tacky bling, blink gold tooth ingot, but since it has a nicer finish than even the slate and silver, I will go with it instead.

I was really worried when I heard all of the "gold/champagne" rumors...but I have to say...that doesn't look too bad. Though I would personally prefer an all silver/gunmetal iPhone as opposed to a champagne iPhone. That doesn't look too bad though! I think it'd be easy to make a lot of subtle color tones look really nice with that matte finish.

I'm curious to see what they do with the front. I can't say that I'm crazy about white or black plastic up against a matte champagne finish.

Edit: I do think it is a bit strange that they would choose gold as the alternate color after staying with b&w for so long. But it does make sense if they are trying to market more to other countries. I know countries like India and China love things finished in gold. It still feels like a strange move, but it makes some sense I guess.
