You don't believe Apple is considered the luxury phone brand in the world?

No chance in hell mate, every man and his dog has or has had an iPhone, plus the majority of the best selling Android handsets cost the same as an iPhone.
Apple is not a luxury brand, it is a middle brand at best like BMW, Apple has nice designs though that seem to usually last well which is most likely why they are perceived as luxury.

Luxury means not obtainable to the masses

Anyone can get an iPhone.

What you mean is that it is a high quality product

Who has 700 dollars of disposable income? Not many people.

Luxury does not mean unattainable.

The stuff people buy to copy the rich? I saw several known (sold their startups) multi-millionaires (billionaires?) walking around during the break at a recent tech investment conference. Several were holding iPhones. No diamond encrusted nonsense.

But that was in Silicon Valley. What's it like in Manhattan, Beijing, and Moscow? (for the ones that don't just have their personal/executive assistants carry a phone for them.)

Those people wouldnt own a bmw or a lexus. Yet those brands are considered luxury brands.

Luxury is something that's not mass produced or that everyone can buy..Apple makes very well made products but are not luxury products.

thats pretty stupid. not everyone needs 64GB

speaking of so much space ... how come the iPhone doesnt have USB 3? it must be a pain in the d to synch

What? The iPhone is the single best selling smartphone. It's the phone that your granny and her bridge gang bought. It costs no more than any other major brand flagship, so no, it is not by any definition a luxury product.

Well, I guess that you could argue that since there are smarphones that cost $100, an iPhone for $600-700 is indeed a luxury, but that would make a Galaxy S or an HTC One equally luxurious.

My grandma has an iPhone? That's news to me. Maybe you're confusing my grandma with the teenage to 35 year old demographic.

My argument was that apple was the bmw, lexus, and Mercedes of the cell phone world. I don't care to debate the definition of luxury.

Do you want Sapphire with that?

This would be an undesirable level of product complexity. "I want the iPhone 6." "Do you want Sapphire with that?" "What's that?" "Well...let me get my sandpaper out."

Semantics. Is bmw not a luxury car brand? Because they produce a ton of cars a year.

I still don't believe in the 5.5" iPhone.

There really hasn't been any leaks for it so you have a point! But as for Apples success, I do hope the do come out with the two sizes and use Sapphire! If not, Samsung will be breathing a sigh of relief!

I know I don't need large storage, because I sync and send ALL pic to my separate hard drive! But I know many people that don't and they use a TON of space! So for them, they need it! Don't understand that to pay for iCloud space when you can keep it a you own HD, BUT this is why people want these large storage spaces!

You're seriously comparing an iPhone that can be had for $99 on contract to a BMW?

I love buying coke cans made of "luxurious" aluminium, then tossing them when I've finished; it makes me feel like a millionaire :D

Ha, I remember before the cans were aluminum, people thought aluminum cans were a joke when they started changing over. Of course there was no going back and they became accepted.

Yes, but fewer. There are statistics showing that a large amount (a really large amount!) of people would buy an iPhone if it were cheaper.

And a lot of people would buy a Ferrari if it were cheaper too ...

But, they still want the Ferrari. Not the lesser vehicle their cheaper price tag is going to get them.

yeah i get that but being forced to buy the 64GB one just to have the better display sounds stupid.

Apple charge way too much for an iPhone. First £500, then £529, then £549

So £579 for a 4.7 and £600 for a 5.5?

Didn't the 5C bomb? What's the point in confusing consumers and hurting the brand with garbage devices that nobody wants?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 5C didn't live up to Apples expectations, but was the second most popular smartphone on the market. Bombed is incorrect. I see tons of them out in the wild.

No they are not, again it is a very common car either new or second hand, how many Rolls Royce do you see? Bentley? Ferrari? And so on. Those are luxury brands. Not a BMW that costs the same as a Ford.
How many brand new top end BMW 7 series do you daily on the roads? Again not many.

There are a lot of parallels between the smartphone and auto markets. Plenty of people will buy commodity cars (Kias, Toyota Corollas, Ford Focuses, etc) yet luxury automakers who sell far fewer cars reap immense profits from the market.

People buy iPhones because Apple has become the only luxury brand in the smartphone space. Plus it offers some amazing software, hardware, and integration with other Apple products that, together, competitors simply cannot beat. Joe Public can buy a Nexus 5 but they don't get that BMW/Lexus/Mercedes luxury experience. They'll get the luxury Hyundai experience (yes this company does try to compete against these automakers). They could also save even more money and buy a Xiaomi or lower end Samsung but then they'd be getting a Kia experience.

I remember when I used to make the luxury car parallel to owning a Mac.

These good enough Android phones have existed in the marketplace for a few years now yet Apple's iPhone sales continue to increase year over year. People want the iPhone, plain and simple.

Actually, it's not plain and simple. I don't want an iPhone. Most people I know have an Android phone.

If market share met anything, then that makes Windows better than OS X. I doubt most people here would agree with that. Market share doesn't mean something is better. ;)

Some would take having a Ford Focus is a luxury because it's a car. It's all relevant to the person.

Why does this keep getting said? There's nothing further from the truth. The 5c is huge. I see it all the time "in the wild"

Never seen a single 5C in the wild but see 5S pretty often.

Agreed. There's no one at Apple to fight for perfection anymore. Or at least no one with some real weight. Releasing 4 iPhone models (4,7 and 5,5-inch with and without sapphire glass) is not the Apple way and very confusing. Dumb decision if true.

Toltepeceno, why did people think so?

Maybe compare it to $299 on contract, but I know several BMW owners (new ones!), and they all have iPhones (also new ones). Same buyers with the same level (or lack?) of taste.
