Whenever I see that image of sapphire I think of silicon used in breast enhancements.

Like said, the most popular phone on the planet can't be a luxury item by definition. It's the Walmart of smartphones.

It really comes down to iPhone or Android. Android has the biggest marketshare (~80%). So the iPhone is not the "popular phone." It is the luxury phone that people want (but by and large can't afford).

If Sapphire means scratch less , well I will pay 50 bucks or so extra since that's the average cost of slapping that protectant on the front and back! If their no extra charge? Even better , can't wait!

What is luxurious?

The stuff people buy to copy the rich? I saw several known (sold their startups) multi-millionaires (billionaires?) walking around during the break at a recent tech investment conference. Several were holding iPhones. No diamond encrusted nonsense.

But that was in Silicon Valley. What's it like in Manhattan, Beijing, and Moscow? (for the ones that don't just have their personal/executive assistants carry a phone for them.)

What? The iPhone is the single best selling smartphone. It's the phone that your granny and her bridge gang bought. It costs no more than any other major brand flagship, so no, it is not by any definition a luxury product.

Well, I guess that you could argue that since there are smarphones that cost $100, an iPhone for $600-700 is indeed a luxury, but that would make a Galaxy S or an HTC One equally luxurious.

What is luxurious? The plastic S5? Does it still have that eye tracking gimmick on it or did they leave that "amazing feature" out this year?

No, the Galaxy Alpha which Samsung reduced the screen size to 4.7" for human use and added a luxurious metal frame.

Tim Cook has such a hard job.

I remember when air conditioning was a luxury item in a car, now it's normal.

Kind of like how the iphone used to be considered luxury at one time and now it's normal among flagship phones.

Aluminum is luxurious? Since when? That's downright funny. Aluminum is what window frames are made of.

I think it's good, but in no way luxurious.

What is not doing well in the US? Owning more than 50% of the market with a year over year increase in sales? Because those two things are fact.

Go back to my last post. I think you missed where I said the iPhone is the market leader in the U.S. and Android is lagging.

Want me to show you the data? You don't seem to believe me on information that is publicly available.

Geez you really got a chip on your shoulder. I said "ok" as in "ok, I agree that's correct." But now I understand I should have been more explicit because you have a hard time extrapolating meaning.

I disagree 100% with you on what Cook meant by "mix," and whether the 5C got off to a slow start (by Apple standards) and that Cook was not in a position to concede anything, but do not disagree that the stock jump in April had more to do w/ the actual#s and the split was coincidental.

Also, I'm sure most people would opt to buy the "cheaper" one anyway.

The only way I would consider a more expensive Sapphire screen phone is when Apple guarantees that I can drop the thing without shattering the screen..... I have no scratched screen issues.

And while they are at it they should make the more expensive version water resistant.

Actually, no. iPhone sales disappointed Wall Street. AAPL took a big hit even though Apple reported better than expected earnings. AAPL did not recover until April when the stock split was announced.

What do idiots on Wall Street have to do with what I said?

Edit: For the record, stocks slumped on disappointing iPad sales and recovered on exceptional iPhone sales. I guess that doesn't fit your narrative though.

I'm not claiming to know some new factual information, but...

My network provider rung me up the other day to ask what I was going to do with my contract when it's up next month, and when I told them I was waiting for the iPhone 6, they told me that Apple have given them prospective price points that are higher than the previous models launch prices, as a heads up.

I don't know if they actually do know anything, but it wouldn't go against the recent speculation.

iPhone 6. The most expensive iPhone yet.

Yes, one of the best selling smartphones on the planet "bombed".

LMAO 5c is not even close to be one of the best selling smartphones..Far from it..it was a failure (based on Apples expectations and standards)..I see 5s and older iPhones EVERYWHERE,Everyday..but have seen only a very few 5cs out in public.no one wants that ugly cheap tacky lego plastic phone..what are you talking about..5c is probably the worst product Apple ever made.

I just wished they took cues from Sony Z2 or S5 and made it water resistant, because I can't afford having my $1000+ device get destroyed by mist, steam or rain.

Come to think of it, it's like the original iPod ad, except that it's "$1000 worth of phone in your pocket."

I love buying coke cans made of "luxurious" aluminium, then tossing them when I've finished; it makes me feel like a millionaire :D

I doubt there will be a 5.5" version.

I highly doubt, without any sarcasm, that there will be ANY more "I don't believe that iPhone 6 5.5" will come" comments at any point in time, EVER...

;) ;) ;) OUCH... sorry, got a mosquito in my eye

If they are committed to making the best products, they should be in all of the phones.
They ARE committed to making the best products but at the right price points, otherwise there would be just ONE product. It would have the most resolution, it would have the biggest SSD possible, it would have the best possible camera, best processor, etc. AND no one but the most wealthy could afford it. That -- and Apple would have no where to go next year. They have to plan in obsolescence. It's called their roadmap.

There are tiers and Apple is committed to the best that money can buy at each and every tier. But let's imagine that Apple did just what you suggested and had Sapphire in each and every phone and had to adjust the price for that material. People by the millions would cease to be Apple customers for the simple fact that they could no longer buy in. Yes... that makes a ton of business sense.

Your statement should've been: "If you are committed to owning the best Apple product with Sapphire display, you should be prepared to buy the most expensive one this year. I am."

Me, too.
