Just got a $500 rebate check from school. I'm saving it to buy a new macbook only if they are $800 or less. I can't wait 'till tuesday!

But anyone know how much the top notch model will cost? I doubt it would be $1500 (like the top model on sale now)

What's that large opening at the bottom left side of the new MacBook Pro? Could it be a DVI port? Or HDMI, perhaps?

Um...

Both MB and MBP seem to have an additional hole near the front left hand side - like a microphone or headphone socket.

Also the MBP seems to have an extra USB port, taped over in the photo, next to the mystery hole near the front left.

Kensington security hole seems to be next to the CD slot on the other side. [edit: for the MBP]

am i insane cuz that looks like a dvi port thats taped over...

NM its on a weird place and its too small...ignore

MacBook Pro 18 inch / Tablet Device Tuesday???

All I want is a new MacBook Pro 18 inch that is better in every single way than the current MacBook Pro out right now.

Lastly, do you think Apple might surprise us with a new Tablet/Touch device on Tuesday?

Get it right - you were the one who was moaning about the fact that the pictures were posted. What are you, 5 years old, with that immature response? Back on topic now eh.

Hey, um why don't you realize that this entire site is about people moaning about EVERYTHING. even you, moaning that i thought it was rude someone would ruin apples new product debut 48 hrs before hand that is a legitimate post. you, sir, get it right.

I haven't read the whole thread I just stopped on page 5.
But I caughts my attention that until this page, am I the only one thinking that this could be the HDMI port on the MBP????

See the "HDMI" port on other device, of course it would not look like this from :apple:

Latching mechanism for battery or removable HDD?

iMac dock a monitor

The more I think about it the better this idea seems. Of course it won't be an actual iMac (ie no computer internals) but a monitor with a slot for your laptop. It might end up looking like an iMac, with the chin and all, which is probably necessary so as to provide the physical space to accommodate the laptop, as well as speakers, ports, etc...

Someone earlier asked what advantage this would be over simply connecting to a monitor. Well, one huge advantage is that you call leave all your devices connected to the dock and never have to think about unhooking and hooking them to the macbook. Just slide out and go. Just slide in and continue.

It would also mean not having to use your magsafe adaptor so you can keep it in your laptop case for travel. This alone is a big plus. I find it a pain to have to unhook the power brick and bring it with me and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has accidentally forgot it at work or a friend's house. Not needing it at home will solve that problem.

Another feature would be that the dock could have so many more connection options, including all the firewire and usb you'd want.

And the dock's built in speakers would likely be a lot better than the MB or MBP speakers and would be enough for some people not to buy new ones, thus eliminating the need for more speakers and more clutter.

The docking station seems to tie together some of the rumors and pictures so far and to me it makes a lot of sense. My only concern would be heat dissipation and the potential for the screen to become damaged or warped because of the heat and from being in clamshell mode all the time. But I'm sure the engineers would have worked that out.

I like this idea and I hope it works out.

Poll update

After 100 votes have been cast (thank you very much):

Ethernet has

43 votes (43%, who would've thought ;-) )

while FireWire has

57 Stimmen (57%, see above)

This goes to prove that both are nearly equally needed, but the decision to get rid of FireWire does definitely look like a bad one at this point.

The poll is still open and can be found here.

everyone knew chicklet was the direction apple was going they arent that bad...and no one will be talking about the chicklet keys in a few weeks...people need to get over it...seriously...

They're better than the current mbp keys.

I will be surprised if this happens

Blu ray?

i dont see hdmi port anywhere...but wouldn't it seem natural to put hdmi on a notebook with a blue ray drive...seems hindering to put blue ray on a notebook w/o hdmi...and wouldnt apple put in in the pro tower first? it would be cool if you could write time machine to a blue ray disk :) maybe they would push "storage" instead of "Entertainment" but ya know whateva

- Probably some kind of DVI (note that this port looks different from the one below this list on the smaller notebook - THAT one is a big ???, unless the photo is just screwy and it's actually the same as the one on the bigger notebook.)

If you look closely you'll see the indentation on the lower left isn't really there; it's a reflection on the inside of the port. It's symmetrical.

I'm a little upset that there is not more difference b/w the mb and mbp. maybe the lid will differentiate them. Either way I can't wait for October 14.....

Yeah, so am I. People can see my MacBook Pro now and know that I spent more for a better machine just by glancing at it, instead of having to come over and ask, "Is that a MacBook or a MacBook Pro?" I like my computer to be easily differentiated from a lesser machine.

smokeyd...

dont see that happening...i think the og "brick" idea with the base station will happen before that does :( i dont wanna be sliding notebooks and all that crap...

If the iMac Dock rumor is true then my money is on a DisplayPort, which would nicely send video and audio to the dock. If you zoom in on the photo you can see (not very clearly, mind you) that the shape is like HDMI on the left and vertical on the right (looking from above as in the photo). This best matches DisplayPort IMHO.
