You're really comparing a desktop to a notebook? Really?

C'mon.

BJWanlund: The day the MBA is the most expensive notebook Apple offers will be a very sad day. Your pricing structure is absolutely ridiculous. You're talking about price drops of about $500-600, on a completely redesigned family of notebooks.

I want some of what you're smoking.

Masklinn: Well said, I'm really hoping there is a 1920x1200 option for the 15" with the same resolution standard for the 17"
My sister has had a 15" 300lbs Dell for nearly 3-4 years with a 1920x1200 resolution screen. The MBP needs this option across the board.

Just because YOU may not want (need?) an adapter, I'd be willing to bet that many of us who use external displays will even if Apple uses a standard port.

Instead of a mini-DVI port, would an S-Video port make you happy?

Hi, I'm the point. Apparently you missed me.

i dunno supposedly the new notebooks are taking some design aspects from the air and the imac....

So it's miniDVI? I still have to plug separate audio cable if I want to watch a movie on my Plasma?

Have a look at the leaked MBA case and its trackpad:

And now the current one:

Glass trackpad on the MBAs anyone?

NO!

Actually, I think it's a pretty good idea. Really.
But that is quite impossible if the notebook is supposed to be thin and come with a small foot print at the same time.

Also, completely impossible to work out with the way the screen is linked to the computer.

You're not the point, you're a grue! And I have my flashlight, you can't be here, it's not dark!

I'm a poor college student in school for audio/sound tech. We use Macs at school, and a Mac at home would mean I could do more work. I need it to even keep up. My Hard drives, audio interfaces, camcorders, etc all use firewire. Even my Mackie Mixer is firewire. The new Macbook would be fine for everything I'm doing, but now they don't even have a single firewire port ? So if I want to have a mac that works for me I have to spend an extra $1000 on the Maccrook Pro? I'm basically screwed.

So it's miniDVI?
From the pictures, it looks far too small compared to mini-dvi. It might be a mini-displayport instead, another commenter found mention of a mini-displayport created for apple.

Other than that, we have absolutely no idea.

The iMac is pretty much a notebook desktop thing.

But please tell me why that'd be a point of comparison for port location? Who the hell would propose the idea to put the ports on the side of the iMac? That's why it's a ridiculous point to even attempt to make.

slowpoe: By design aspects they mean materials, colors, build, etc. Port locations will still stay relevant to the type of machine that's being created, i.e. notebooks.

The iMac has the ports behind the screen, so why not just put the ports behind the screen on the new notebooks? And add a nice little stand for it. Just lose the keyboard and touchpad, oh and then put some glass around the screen and make it a bit thicker. Tada! The new iMacBook family!

C'man

OK cant we all get along? these notebooks havent been redesigned for like...ever..and now on tuesday...we will all be so happy:apple::D

hostility needed?

Apple could have some sort of adapter to bring firewire to 'lower-end' Macbooks. We'll have to wait for 2 more days to find out.

"Ports-on-the-back" is a design idea from 1995. We're not doing that again.

Also, since we've not seen any shots of the front of either MacBook yet, I'm assuming the sleep LED indicator and the IR receiver are on the front (where it makes more sense for them to be; I mean putting either on the left would mean if you happened to be sitting to the right of your notebook they'd be useless). Which still leaves that mysterious, 3.5mm jack shaped hole towards the front of the notebooks unexplained.

I'm looking forward to Tuesday. When Apple will probably stump us by releasing a completely different notebook, nothing like these prototypes :p

Apple hasn't had a machine with a small footprint since they killed off the 12" PowerBook… what makes you think they'd go back to having one now? ;)

At the moment no one knows how much extra you would have to pay.

I agree wholeheartedly, I really didn't mean to come across as hostile. More sarcastic than anything, but I can see how it could be misconstrued. My apologies, and let me tell you this. I had made an oath to hold onto my PBG4 until a new design was released and, although it's taken a few years longer than I expected, I'll be one of the first in line (online) to get my new notebook. After my PB was stolen I decided to put the money towards what I really needed for my career and I bought my dream Mac Pro, but I miss my portable companion more than anything in the world and I can't wait for these to finally be released.

Long overdue.

However

However it would be cool to have hdmi tucked neatly in the back...as someone pointed out it would be impossible due to the way the screen is connected...thinkin hes right:(

Guys I am sorry but what is going on with the MBA? Some say that it will not even show up in Tuesday and some say it will. Are we going to see an upgrade of MBA, a 2ng generation of MBA or nothing related to MBA?

Thank you..!

And yes it will be a pitty if MB has no firewire but if there are going to be 3 MBP then the cheapest it will be probably the best solution for someone who can afford the MB but wants something more like firewire.. personal opinion.
