It's where it has always been. A power port there would be a terrible idea. It would get pulled out all the time.

The question was about a port on the right. This is where the magsafe is now and will be on the new model. Someone else said that the 'mystery' port would non-magsafe, so I asked where the magsafe would go.

Simple misunderstanding.

Pretty much agree - and all these pics are just of case shells. It seems odd that this close to the event nobody has posted a convincing picture that looks like a shipping product.

There weren't any such photos of the MBA before it came out, were there? As I recall, there were just verbal descriptions of it being "incredibly thin".

Yes, I think you are correct. Apple seems to be better at keeping the Macs under wraps compared to the iPods.

But I'm also thinking that these pictures may not necessarily be the finished article.

Sorry for asking since I didn't want to read through 1,200 posts but what is so new about the case design that makes it so drool-worthy other than the bullet points in the first post? It looks slightly the same as the old MBPs.

ports?

i am ready for a new macbook but? the spy shots show a couple of missing ports. no Mini-DVI video out & firewire? anyone have an idea of what gives?

because this is macrumors, and we discuss rumors, and everytime a new model is rumored, it feels like i've been here before....

TMA: the 1 mm you mention isn't there, no way. Judging by the particular shape of the tape because it isn't completely flat or flush it tends to be a little proud on the edge of the hole, and if you add to the situation that the air sourrounding the object in the picture had a relative humidity higher than 55%, therefore the moisture on the tape make it look like it is, and make you see orange.
It has been demonstrated in previous studies of leaked photos from the east side of the globe.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about humidity. It's between 50-70% humidity (comfortable) in my living room most of the time, and I don't get moisture condensing on tape, nor does it make anything seem orange!

Please excuse my crudely drawn illustration, reminds me of the great iWalk forgery days!

I just really don't believe that that bigger one is the MacBook Pro. First of all there's not enough difference between it and the smaller one. That makes me think it's just a 15" MacBook. Second, I think it's a step backward from what the Pros look like now. The speaker grills on the current ones are much nicer. Also, I think if Apple doesn't put a REAL DVI port on a Pro model... well, I'll let you realize how stupid that is. The Pro should look significantly different than the MacBook.

Oh and it looks too rounded on the corners to get a nice thin bezel on the Pro. It just makes more sense all around that they are both MacBooks: 13 and 15 inches.

this.

Just sold my 2.5 Penryn, I'm so not on the fence about this one. I knew chicklet keys were coming (which I hate), but I'm still going to get a new one and hopefully grow accustomed to them.

I would hope Apple didn't go for some highly proprietary connector for the display output on the MBP. If they did, I hope they use something more secure than Mini-DVI which so easily gets unplugged. Something that easily detachable isn't suitable for a Pro machine. If it is some mini displayport then I guess I'll be relatively happy that Apple at least was forward thinking with going for displayport.

However I think that maybe it is some different mini dvi/vga soluton that could use integrated graphics on the mobo, while the other is a fullsize displayport/dvi port that is more closely situated to where the graphics card would be in the machine. I think there was some report on AI or MR recently talking about the new NVIDIA chipsets switching between dedicated and integrated graphics. Just a guess here.

I wonder if the taped mystery port was a spring loaded door, that did not have the spring, hence the tape. But what could it be for if it is a door?

Do both the MBP and the MB (assuming that is what they are) have that port?

I just read from machome that the new mb/mbp/air have already arrived in Hongkong waiting to be opened on 15th (HongKong time). looks like it may be available here very soon if not immediately after the conference on 14th.;)

You make an interesting point about the bezel. With these corners, I figure the screen could be about this big:

Yeah, and even that looks a little awkward in the bottom left corner there. It certainly could work, but it looks way worse than the current ones do. Heck I'd like to see an almost square corner and super-thin bezel like the TiBooks.

I agree that it looks awkward. I'm therefore expecting the screen to be smaller than this mock-up (so wider bezel).

I haven't read all 50 pages in this tread so I don't know if someone already mentioned it, but if it's going to be half plastic wouldn't it made sense that the aluminum part be the outside of the laptop rather than the inside?, yes it would scratch easier but it would provide better protection, better heat dissipation, won't feel cold to your hands as you put your hands on the keyboard, etc.

Don't mean to question Apple engineering so save the "you're a M$ tool" replies.

plastic

i dont think it will include any plastic casing. on apples website it states they are removing plastic from computers by the end of the year.

I am feeling less and less confident that this is legit. Why would they get rid of the rounded expresscard slot? There's no advantage in doing that.
