Hmm perhaps, but what's to say it's not just some sort of mount/clip/framework on the inside? Unless you can see a hole running through how do you know it's a hole?

And that still doesn't answer some questions:-

Why is the bit under the tape on the outside orange?
Why is the orange bit protruding?

I don't see orange. I also don't see any protrusion. Where do you see that?

Maybe this will be helpful. These are all photos of the MBP, not the MB.

There's an extra hole at the far right in the bottom photo. (I couldn't draw a yellow line to it.)

Whatever this thing is (not to be confused with the extra hole in the above photo), it's evident on both the inside and outside of the case, so it's not merely a sticker.

the 2nd port from the right is probaly the FW 800/3200? port then

Ok, I haven't browsed all 1000 comments, but a lot of people are freaking out about the lack of FW400 on the Macbook.

Look at the pictures again........

There is clearly a jack that is almost identical to FW800 next to the ethernet port. Notice the Magsafe cut out of the pic?

FW3200, FW1600, and FW800 all use the same jack, not to mention backward compatible cables for FW400. This makes perfect sense, and is a step forward for Apple.

I believe we could be seeing easily FW800 on the Macbooks and possibly FW1600 as well! :D

No. You are looking at the (rumored) macbook pro shots. The MacBook shots clearly don't have a FireWire port.

Underneath the tape it's orange, if it were a port hole it would just be the same colour as the tape or slightly lighter (as light shines through).

It's protruding a millimetre or so around the edges of the orange shape. Just the same amount as you would imagine a sticky label would.

If the one port with video icon is the video out, and most likely it will be, then probably those who mention that is going to be the place for a SIM card or any other type of cellular data connection port/dock/holder/whatever...GPS....may be you are right guys?

Some random thoughts:
- Could it be a finger sensor to start up/stop the video on the glass trackpad.
- Something to energize and release the magnets

But if the dock patent is going to materialize on this tuesday then it might be the connector for it.

Wait...I SERIOUSLY HOPE that Apple won't let the Firefire port down ! If it was non-standard and slow performing, OK, but so many consumer video cameras and backup hard drives are Firewire now, it would simply make no sense to remove them.

An external backup hard drive works so much better in FireWire with small files since it has less overhead than USB 2.0. Removing FireWire would serioulsy hamper Time Machine performance.

Removing $100 from their laptop and removing a feature...uncool. Would rather pay $100 more and keep the feature, especially considering the MacBook doesn't have any expansion slot.

I still don't see orange on either of my monitors. It has a warm tone, but that's probably the tape reflecting the pink bubble wrap.

As for it being a hole: it does cut through the aluminum. See:

It's not a hole to look through because something is in the hole already. It's bigger on the outside than it is on the inside. On the inside, it's more of a square shape, which is roughly in the middle of the rectangular shape on the exterior.

sigh

I'm a long time reader, but I've never posted before. However I was compelled enough to mention a few things that i finally went through the steps to register...

Has no one thought that this is probably an engineering prototype and that the tape and the orange-whatever represents an inaccuracy in the model, more specifically that the final version needs to have this piece extruded and that in fact there is nothing UNDER the tape?

I'm hoping that some clarification regarding this comes about soon... i'm dying of anticipation.

I'm hoping for the dock connector. It's really unlikely, but would be extremely cool.

:D

TMA: the 1 mm you mention isn't there, no way. Judging by the particular shape of the tape because it isn't completely flat or flush it tends to be a little proud on the edge of the hole, and if you add to the situation that the air sourrounding the object in the picture had a relative humidity higher than 55%, therefore the moisture on the tape make it look like it is, and make you see orange.
It has been demonstrated in previous studies of leaked photos from the east side of the globe.

- It's orange. If it were a reflection you would see it across the whole of the piece of tape. Reflections don't neatly correspond to the size and shape of a label normally.

- Comparing it with those other pictures is pointless, because you can't make out a visible hole in any of them. There could easily be something else going on on the inside that has no relation to what's happening on the outside. Those other 'inside' pictures could be showing a mount or clip for a HDD cable or battery. So they're not supporting evidence at all.

lol air humidity! Right I'm coming back to this one in a minute. =D

Mighty Mouse and Keyboard updates

Thoughts on the chances of seeing MM and keyboard updates too? I really want to get a bluetooth mouse with my MBP when I pick it up, but I do not want the mighty mouse... used a lot of wired ones, and frankly, crap. A bluetooth keyboard WITH a number pad + page up/down keys etc would be a bit handy.

Is this sort of schwag usually reserved for iMac updates?

You are basing all this consternation on ... wait for it ... RAMPANT SPECULATION BASED ON RUMORS! Before you run out and purchase a PC you may want to wait for the event to see what apple actually releases.

We don't know if any of these "spy shots" are even real. While it is fun to speculate, don't let it ruin your day...

Pretty much agree - and all these pics are just of case shells. It seems odd that this close to the event nobody has posted a convincing picture that looks like a shipping product.
