Incredible... but I also want a way that I can see highlighted the threads in which I posted... Do you have another one of those tricks?
You're going to need to enable thread subscriptions in the User CP.

My default is to subscribe but not get digest e-mails.

I actually don't see the need to keep identifying the OP in a thread. Most of the time, the OP just serves to initiate the conversation, which evolves very quickly as new participants take the lead in the discussions. Often, the OP takes a very minor role or stops participating all together as the thread develops, as others take over the thread. I don't see the benefit in knowing who started everything. I do often read earlier posts in the same thread to track contributions and points made by specific individuals, but I don't do this any more for OPs than other posters. It really depends upon the specific points being made in the thread and then reviewing prior posts made by the source to determine their rationale.

I read this thread when it first came out and thought it was a good idea and when i wake up this morning i see it has been implemented and I think it is a very good addition to these forums.

i... i don't like it. I think it would be better as a small icon. On/offline is simple enough for people to understand, right? How about a similar icon just illustrating the thread starter?

I think that the way it's shown up on the screen is a bit too much. The green doesn't seem to fit well, the bold doesn't mix with the username and user title, and the Capitalised Words don't fit inbetween the oft lowercase usernames, and consistently lowercase user titles.

It's a good idea, certainly. But I think the execution needs to be tinkered with.

this was my general idea, but of course, the image i used didn't scale nicely. it was meant to be a gun. you know, like a starter pistol... :)

icon shamelessly lifted from here.

Yes, my creation is alive!

Thanks Arn, I think this is awesome. Thanks for listening to us, it's much appreciated!

I do like the "Thread Starter" title-- but am not fond of the color.

Could we simply and either have it be black? Or the blue that usernames are usually written in?

I think we're on the right track here by adding something denoting the thread starter. It just doesn't seem to stand out as much as I had envisioned- although maybe that was by design. My thinking is, if I don't know who the OP is, the current implementation doesn't stand out enough for me to quickly ascertain who is, and I'd likely skip right over this (in the process of scrolling up) and end up just looking at the first post.

bigandy's solution is a bit better, but still not there.

All that being said, I offer no solutions. :)

Why do we need to know who started the thread again? I still don't see the usefulness.

Mostly to let us know if we're responding to the OP without having to go back to the top of the page. It also makes troll finding a lot easier;)

I'm all for the thread starter indicator, although I think it could be toned down a little bit - perhaps not bolded?

Also, I vote against having your own username bolded - it just doesn't serve any usefulness in my opinion.

Just my feedback...

I haven't really been around much except the gaming forum but my username is bolder than everyone else name....is this a new feature to the forum?.....opps nevermind I see the thread about this :)

I like the "thread starter" title thing.....now I won't have to go back all the time to remember the OP.

Bless

Exactly, I agree - for those of us with avatars, it is indeed easier to find our posts visually (i.e. by avatar recognition) as opposed to textually (i.e. by username, bolded or otherwise).

For those members without avatars though I can see it being more useful. For me, as I said, not so much. ;)
