I actually don't see the need to keep identifying the OP in a thread. Most of the time, the OP just serves to initiate the conversation, which evolves very quickly as new participants take the lead in the discussions. Often, the OP takes a very minor role or stops participating all together as the thread develops, as others take over the thread. I don't see the benefit in knowing who started everything. I do often read earlier posts in the same thread to track contributions and points made by specific individuals, but I don't do this any more for OPs than other posters. It really depends upon the specific points being made in the thread and then reviewing prior posts made by the source to determine their rationale.
