Exactly, I agree - for those of us with avatars, it is indeed easier to find our posts visually (i.e. by avatar recognition) as opposed to textually (i.e. by username, bolded or otherwise).

For those members without avatars though I can see it being more useful. For me, as I said, not so much. ;)
I see your point now but I don't find a problem with a member with an avatar. :p

i don't know if arn or anyone was playing with the settings but in the threads where i post, my name appears bold...

Can't we find a better term than "Thread Starter". It sounds negative, kind of like "problem child".

Do i need to be american or old to get a chuckle out of that?

Or both. Opie was from The Andy Griffith Show...aired in the '60s. Played by Ron Howard, who went on to star in Happy Days and now TV and film producer.

I quickly scanned the posts in this thread and still don't see any good explanation as to why identifying the OP over and over again is useful (though I'm sleepy and admittedly could have missed it). I don't get why the OP is any more important than other posters who have made sustantial contributions to the thread's development and who you may want to refer back to. If a post has earth-shaking significance that provides a unique perspective on the topic at hand, why not give it a new, green title too, like NSP (for "nonoriginal subsequent poster"). Seems it would have as much value as the OP's suggestion. BTW, its almost 30 posts back that the Thread Starter was identified, so where did they go and why do we need to reach back that far?

I believe it's most useful in troubleshooting threads where someone poses a question and then followup information.

Thanks Arn. I can see the value in this. But people ask new questions throughout the thread, so why wouldn't we want to also identify them for followup information? Wouldn't the same benefit accrue?

Yes I went for some old school humor.

Im getting used to the bold username, still not a fan but getting used to it. Would maybe a different shade of blue stand out more then bold?

True, but it's really only fair to keep the focus on the original poster's question so as to avoid highjacking the thread. :)

Ummm, obvisouly like many others have said, in anything that deals with troubleshooting it can be very helpful to be able to identify the OP easily. Often times on troubleshooting threads there are multiple people that have a similar problem and it gets confusing when trying to help OP with a problem when two or more posters are throwing out specifics about their individual situation.

I also think it is more conversational and polite to use "names" in thread posts as well when you are addressing the original posters problem, question or concern.

Great work Arn!
