Highlights of Apple's iPhone OS 3.0 Preview: Copy and Paste, A2DP, MMS, Much More

I have ONE question:

Can I use landscape mode text-entry in TEXT MESSAGING, instead of only allowing portrait????? TEXTING in landscape??????

You mean unlock, not jailbreak and AFAIK they still haven't found how to unlock the iPhone 3G unless they have and are holding off on releasing it until the new iPhone comes out like they were planning to do with the iPod Touch 2nd Gen untethered jailbreak.

Dude, this update makes me soooo happy. I'd still pay $9.95 even though I have an iPhone. But I'm glad I don't.

What I don't like is that the Spotlight (flick left) doesn't include Mail but Mail has it's own search. This is of course if I read the Engadget article correctly. Why is it separate? I think it is a dumb move to draw a line and not include Mail in Spotlight.

Most likely, no. Apple did say that they have no information regarding this subject.

Does anyone know if Macrumors will email us when the keynote video is up? I don't want to sit here refreshing the page.

Speak for yourself.

Bluetooth saves me $20 on an Apple remote. Copy and Paste is the one gripe I have with the touch. Voice memos save me $100 or so on a voice recorder. In App purchasing will make my Kindle app worthwhile.

I could go on and on. I have planned to buy a remote and voice recorder for a while so I will definitely be shelling out the $10 for this update, and I will feel fine about it. I'm quite happy we can upgrade instead of being told to buy a new one.

Sure some of this stuff should have been ready to roll when the 3G came out, at the absolutely latest. Still it didn't stop me from buying my 4GB with no subsidy. I knew the potential was there and that Apple would probably knock my socks off when they had things the way they wanted them. Mission accomplished today and then some.

Ignore them. Some people have an absurd pathological hatred of Apple and can't stand their success. They believe in the mac-latte stereotype, which stirs feelings of class divisions, which makes them despise Apple. That's why they champion every average phone as an "iPhone killer". It's happened so many times now, it's getting boring.

I guarantee that 3 months after the Pre's released, you won't hear another word about it. Just like the HTC Touch, XPERIA X1, the Blackberry Storm, the T-Mobile G1, the Samsung Instinct...etc. All average phones that were hailed as the saviour of mankind by people who are desperate for the iPhone to lose.

Man you need to relax. We are talking about a phone conversation. You act as if Apple is the one that would cause these accidents if they added VD to the iPhone.

People get into accidents for much stupider things - like putting on makeup, singing to a song, shaving, or grabbing a map. So don't generalize and think ALL people who chat on phones get into accidents.

Most cell phone already have this feature, and that percentage far outweighs the iPhone's. Whether you use the feature or not, it should be on there. Plain and simple.

This might have been talked about earlier, but with all this talk about iPhone OS 3.0, is there going to be a subsequent release of a new version of the iPhone?

I know its pure speculation, but I forgot the sequence of events from the last time around.

You must have read the article incorrectly, the Spotlight app does mail too (look at the pictures)

I still want the unlock screen to show me upcoming calendar events and info like the Treo did. That's always been my biggest pet peeve.

The update looks like a big improvement, but I still suspect I'll prefer the Pre because of how Palm implemented notifications.

This has been asked like 20 times in this thread alone, as far as we know Apple will be releasing the next gen iPhone in June just like they've done for the past 2 years, that is all we have to go by and so the short answer is yes, but no one knows for sure.

How? Was there an announcement saying that iPod Touch 2G and iPhone can be used as full remotes through Bluetooth? I'm not being sarcastic, i genuinely don't know. If so, excellent.

I wonder if wireless headphones with mics will come out that allow you to take calls as well as listen to music. There's obviously some out there already....
