Actually U Can Jailbreak It And Video Record So ITs Not Hardware

Thats like saying you can take a riding lawn mower on to the freeway.

The problem is with video recording resulting in too many read/write cycles and thus killing your memory. They probably don't want to introduce a feature that will destroy the iPhone's storage in a short period of time.

Does no one think that in app purchasing will suck? Did the demo where the game asked if you wanted to pay .99 for the rocket launcher not scare you?? Developers withholding content for micropayments???

I loved the rest :)

So now all we REALLY need is:

  • Flash
  • Video
  • Voice Dialing

There are other features, but these are the big 3 we all want IMO.

LOL...we're like two douch bags waiting for Apple to do the right thing with iPhone like two kids waiting for Santa to come. SMALL WORLD my friend.

For once, we both agree on something. I was hoping Voice Dial and video were coming with 3.0...would also like seeing a home page/springboard where I can see an overview of weather, calendar, messaging, etc. If Windows can do it I expect Apple to do it but better.

Happy St. Patrick's day M.B....you do realize St. Pat was a dego like me???

I can't believe so many people voted "positive"!!

Don't you fanboys see what Apple is doing? By bringing out all these new features, Apple is forcing you to buy its products! You are becoming mindless locked in drone-slaves to the souless Apple that doesn't love you, just wants your money.

And for the exorbitant price of $9.95 just for an upgrade, when you can go to the local cell company and get a completely brand new phone for free!!

Besides, it's even more of a rip-off in the UK!!!!

So saying that it's a "different radio" is not strictly accurate, but not entirely out either. After all, it just summarises what I have spent a screenful of text explaining in two words :)

Thank you - was a nice explanation.

Just in case this isn't a satire, the $9.95 price is for the ipod touch. The phone gets free upgrades still.

Wow. Just wow. I swear, as soon as I read on Engadgets feed "11:04AM "Now as I said before, 3.0 brings a lot of new features for devs, but for customers as well... starting... with cut, copy, and paste." Big cheers," my heart almost stopped.
Yay! Push!
I'm a little confused as to what's going on with background processes.

New Hardware

The update today gives me hope for the other upgrades that are only upgradable via hardware. With most of the functionality added via software, the only way for Apple to convince people to upgrade their 3G to a new phone is with more memory (c'mon, 32 GB, please) and a better camera.

I'm still on my 1st gen, and I will not upgrade to the current phone. It's going to take at least 32 GB to get me to put down some cash (I'm not a big user of MMS, so that's a plus, but not a big selling point for me).

Guess we'll know more in a couple of months.

The 9.95 is for the Touch, not the phone, and I read somewhere on here it's LAW!! If you have an iPhone it's FREE!!! How are they forcing you to buy a iPhone? 3.0 will work on the current 3G.
Also the Free phones that other cell companies (including at&t) are just basic junk.

Yep these features should have been there in the first place, but I'm very glad for iPhone users (I'm not one of them) that Apple is planning to implement them. However most people will still be buying the iPhone as a fashion statement rather than for features, since other manufacturers have a faster product cycle and therefore more up-to-date feature sets.

LOL... People buy the iPhone as a fashion statement??? You have to be kidding. Talk to just about anyone who owns one. They're more attached to their iPhone than TiVo users are to their TiVo (and believe me, that's saying something). As for me, you'll get my iPhone when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers, as they say....

People who don't see that simply haven't used an iPhone long enough to see how it vastly exceeds the usability and general utility of Treos, Blackberry, and other competitors. Perhaps not EVERY feature, but collectively.

This one must be dealt with. He transgresses our ways.

I'm sorry, you're wrong, iTunes was also a factor. Here's another quotation from the time (2007)(techcrunch):

"Was the decision [to leave iTunes] influenced by NBC’s ownership stake in the iTunes-competitive upcoming Hulu service? Almost certainly. The last thing the TV networks want to see is Apple having the kind of control over TV content that they do with music - 76% of online music sales come from iTunes."

This is what commentators were saying at the time. They may be saying something different in retrospect, but at the time NBC was embroiled in a dispute with Apple over pricing. I'm not denying that YouTube may also have been a factor, but the post I'm responding to wondered why Hulu videos aren't available on the iPhone, and it's because it's competition.
It doesn't matter what people thought Hulu was. It was a relatively obscure announcement, people didn't know if Hulu was going to charge per view, or if they accepted user-generated content. They denounced it as a failure before it even left the door. What matters is what people know it as now, a incredibly compelling website with high-quality shows supported by ads - not an iTunes competitor. I've never even heard if heralded as such before today. Do a Google search "Hulu vs. iTunes" and you get 74 results. "YouTube vs Hulu" gets you 8,530.

TechCrunch said:
Online tv/film site Hulu launched a year ago today, and boy did we have to eat crow.

Hulu is not on the iPhone simply because the iPhone does not support Flash. Really, if the iPhone is supposed to bring the "real internet" to mobile devices, why should everyone have to downsize/make sacrifices to make it compatible?

Even if Hulu were to get around the tech angles, I'm not sure it would make a very compelling mobile service. Streaming them on a phone will be tricky at best, and definetely won't portray the "premium" service they claim to be.

It really seems like apple is doing things they should have done a long time ago. I just read a blog post about how they hype everything up even if its not worth hyping. I could not agree more. I hate to say it. But the Palm Pre looks cooler than the iPhone.

What a useless site, half the posts there are hating the iphone.

My god! New products FOR PROFIT!? Alert the authorities! ( i really have no idea what you were trying to say with that).

Why is the price of upgrading an ipod relevant to getting phones at a cell phone store?

I am very happy with this and I cannot wait. I don't text MMS that much, but the other stuff I'll enjoy. It's going to be a long couple of months.

I bet they haven't release killer futures yet. And that will come with new iPhone 3.0 powerful enough to handle video recording too. Hmm...video recording I said? So why not go further and get video conferencing?...do I smell iChat AV. Ohh yes...its coming.
As I said erlier, they couldn't mention about any changes which could link to new iPhone. Thats why no video recording etc today. But see you this summer then:cool::D:cool:

So, With the Bluetooth updates, could a developer make a mobile keyboard ? or could we use one of Apple's bluetooth keyboards ?
There are so many times when I could leave my laptop at home and just take a small portable keyboard to satisfy my email / texting needs.
