Streaming Video

Its pretty lame that Apple's last keynote requires not only QuickTime (not a problem), but either a Mac or a PC running Safari to view!

Firefox on PC -- NO
Firefox on Mac -- NO
Internet Explorer on PC -- NO

In the olden days (circa 1999-2000) there were several websites that were made to work ONLY for Internet Explorer. With RedEdit -- a Mac OS 8/9 application -- it was found that there were NO technical reasons for this, rather is was that the http headers would only allow a web browser that either was (or said it was via ResEdit hacking of Netscape Navigator) and the website would "magically" work. This was due to Microsoft trying to make the Internet available to only Windows computers.

Apple's last keynote requires an HTML 5 capable web browser to display an otherwise QuickTime video. Well, HTML 5 is not necessary to view QuickTime -- in case anyone has viewed Apple's movie trailer website (one of my favorite sites!): http://trailers.apple.com/

So, streaming via iTunes -- should work with either Mac or PC.

suggest that Apple might be looking to launch some kind of "iTunes Live Stream" service

hopefully its for video and not audio.. cd->lossy (itunes)->streaming (even worse quality)? no thanks. i avoid itunes anyway and import my cd's, this would be even worse.

open standard?

bassed on open standard?
Interesting definition. Does it play on any non apple hw/browsers?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Also, guessing the stream is going to be from within the data centre in North Carolina.
Maybe we'll see Jobs hit a big red button and BOOM, our iTunes library syncs to the cloud.
Here's hoping.

Well sure that might be nice...
What would be nicer is an update to Time Capsule to include a streaming server. After all it already has all your media on it. No need to worry about bandwidth while in the home.

Not that I think that is tomorrows news, but it would be nice.

Streaming can be better than iTunes Store quality. Take Spotify, I stream from them at 320kbps Ogg Vorbis, and it sounds fantastic.

Never any buffering delay either.

What the hell is the deal with the beatles library coming to iTunes? Like others have said, fans most likely have already CDs and imported them to iTunes. They aren't going to buying them again.
It's worth noting that within a few hours of the Beatles discography release, two of their albums are now in the iTunes Store Top Ten: Abbey Road is currently ranked #6 and The White Album is ranked #9. This is less than twelve hours after the release.

So much for your "theory" that fans already have the albums.

And here's a quote from MacRumors on November 17:

"The Beatles are currently making a strong showing in Apple's lists of top iTunes Store sellers, with over 60 of the group's songs currently ranked on the Top 200 Songs list and all 17 of the album/box set releases ranking among the top 50 albums."

So you're saying that, so called, Beatles fans won't already own those albums?

Not exactly fans then, are they.
