Any chances the iTunes live stream could be like Grooveshark? (Main reason why the grooveshark app was rejected over and over by Apple?)

Mark me down as another one who doesn't think it is the Beatles... BUT the conspiracy theorist in me does think that the hands on the four clocks kind of resemble the cover of Help!

;)

well played, sir. but i really hope it isn't the beatles because i think they're overrated and their songs irritate me. But I know they ARE big enough for it to be a day people "will never forget."

Hopefully this means we will get to store all our music in the CLOUD!

Web-based itms?

I haven't had the opportunity to read every comment in the few threads related to this announcement but I wanted to throw out what seems like an obvious suggestion: tomorrow they'll likely announce the web-based version of the iTunes Music Store based on the technology purchased from LaLa. It's a big step towards the cloud service that will position them nicely for future features to be added.

Thoughts?

The fact that the news is coming FROM iTunes is interesting wording. Sounds like some sort of streaming....

Another forum poster believes it will be a Beatles announcement. I really hope not.

How about a universal iTunes store...?

Here are my thoughts....

Since the event is at 10am EST and not 10am PST, that would mean Steve Jobs is in North Carolina -- not Cupertino.

At 10am EST / 7am PST tomorrow we will be able to "tune in" to the live video stream via iTunes (hence the announcement from iTunes). The live video stream will be the announcement for one or more 24/7 iTunes broadcast channels available on all iOS devices, Apple TV, and iTunes via the desktop as well as streaming non-live video content that will support embedded iAds.

The announcement will be kicked off in a fashion similar to the launch of MTV. Except, instead of the music video "Video Killed the Radio Star" from the British group "The Buggles", it will be a live performance from the living members of The Beatles announcing the availability of their catalog on iTunes (the union of Apple, Inc. and Apple Records).

This will be Apple's direct assault on television content distributors like Dish Network, DirecTV and ComCast.

Other things that may be announced that do not warrant the "never forget" status:
- iOS 4.2 Release or the official release date (with AirPlay & AirPrint)
- Apple TV software update to support AirPlay
- Ping integration with Twitter and maybe even Facebook (who cares?)
- A big acquisition by Apple (unlikely, but a Sony acquisition would be cool)
- Free MobileMe Service for iOS and Mac users (hoping here)
- iTunes/iDisk option to store content in the cloud & stream or sync to device wirelessly (again, hoping here, but would fit with MobileMe)
- 90-second song previews (yawn)

Well, that is a very nice read on the timing of the event....everyone missed that.

It's either that or standard 7am PST press release time....

The Beatles...really??

WTF Apple?

Little over hype on this one.

From WSJ
Apple is preparing to announce that its iTunes Store will soon start carrying music by the Beatles.

Web based iTunes/ iTunes store would have limited appeal, with those who already have an iPhone/Pad 3G able to access the store from near enough anyway.

Unless you store all your tracks on the site and then stream them from there, which could be interesting. But I think a web based store would be pretty dumb.

Wsj is almost never right. They should be ignored

Guess we will see...

Steve Jobs is nearing the end of his long and winding pursuit of the Beatles catalog.

Apple Inc. is preparing to announce that its iTunes Store will soon start carrying music by the Beatles, according to people familiar with the situation, a move that would fill in a glaring gap in the collection of the world's largest music retailer.

The deal resulted from talks that were taking place as recently as last week among executives of Apple, representatives of the Beatles and their record label, EMI Group Ltd., according to these people, who also warned that there is still a chance that Apple could change plans at the last minute.

Spokesmen for Apple, EMI and Paul McCartney declined to comment.

The agreement represents a watershed in a fraught, decades-long relationship between two of the biggest icons in their respective fields. The two sides have traded lawsuits since 1978, when the Beatles alleged that the computer maker, then known as Apple Computer, infringed on the band's trademark. That's because the Beatles in 1968 created a wholly owned entity called Apple Corps Ltd., that acted as an arts-promotion company and owned Apple Records. Though EMI retained ownership of the Beatles recordings, the Apple logo was printed on their albums.

Terms of the deal that brought the Beatles music to iTunes could not be learned.

Lets be serious now. There is no event. Just an announcement. It is unlikely to involve Steve Jobs on stage anywhere. It will likely be just a posting on Apple.com that will simultaneously:

* Cause tech blogs to write at minimum 9 different Apple related posts, most of which are regurgitated rumors.
* Disappoint those who have been overhyping themselves for the last 12 hours.
* Upset Lord Vador

Also, guessing the stream is going to be from within the data centre in North Carolina.
Maybe we'll see Jobs hit a big red button and BOOM, our iTunes library syncs to the cloud.
Here's hoping.

Where the **** did the rumor of a stream come from? There won't be a stream. This is an announcement in iTunes. If this were an event there'd be at least one more day notice.

I just think if it's so big 'You'll never forget it' that Jobs would want some part in it.

Also, this could reason for the 3 hour outage a couple weeks ago on the European sites if they were prepping. Not sure why they'd leave the other sites out though.

Ala Carte Cable Stations

My guess is that they will be using that data center to push ala carte live cable stations. The target is on the back of Hulu and Comcast and "big" cable providers.

Not to be a debby downer, but I'm also starting to think this isn't going to be NEARLY as big as some people are making it out to be.

If it's just the Beatles coming to iTunes, that's great and all, and Apple will make a ton of money, but it's not a revolutionary, magical or "never-forget" type of announcement.

The fact that there is no media event is a tell... Apple LOVES to give the media a week to get themselves all hot and bothered and drum up lots of free publicity. One day in advance is odd, unless Apple fears that it'll get leaked out in that one week timeframe.

I'd love for it to be a streaming service, live TV, iOS 4.2, wireless sync, free MobileMe and top it off with the Beatles coming to iTunes... but my gut tells me that people expecting those things are going to be really sad tomorrow afternoon.

I'd LOVE to be wrong BTW. ;)

It's big to Apple. Doesn't mean it's big to us.

True. It could be like the event where they announced that ipod dock/speaker system. Hopefully it's not them announcing Airplay formally and people showcasing iHome Airplay 399 dollar speakers.

It's big to Apple. Doesn't mean it's big to us.

You hit the nail on the head - and that's the problem.

What's big for Apple and what we think is big for Apple are rarely the same thing. I'm just going to go with the flow and not get myself pumped up for the revolution just yet. Then, if they do announce something I'll "never-forget" it'll be a pleasant surprise.

Seriously...who gives a fat frogs asss about the Beatles. This would be big news in th 60's, but why on earth would this even make headlines in this manner? I surely hope this isn't the hype....it will be one big embarrasment to Apple to say the least. I jam some Beatles music from time to time, but definitley not more deserving than many other greats....well, we'll see.lol

Other localizations of the apple.com homepage, when translated to english, say "about iTunes". I wouldn't read too much into it.

hmm live stream like pandora... but you get to stream your music you purchased with your playlists. and share them with others, radio style? no rewind, just pause?
