"Don't be so mean"

Sounds like it going to be a generic SJW bland product. It's more important to them to have a complete politically correct pokemon set than a good story. Trying to get a full pokemon set means, that they'll have to pump the story full of meaningless dribble to show that they got X/Y/Z, not just actually having a character that just might or might not be X/Y or Z.

It's the difference between "Philadelphia", a gay man's struggle with aids (it's has a purpose) and hey, we need someone to be gay, you're now gay, please add some pointless side story to show it.

We have heard the don’t be so mean thing in an earlier story. I suspect this is all about someone with a grudge and we are hearing the same source say the same things in different ways over and over.

Producers/actors should do like the Marx Brothers when they had a dispute with Warner of Warner bros. They showed up completely naked at the meeting. Warner immediately agreed to their terms.

Were they that good looking that everybody just cave in? ,,Nice ar*e, I am all in! ” (Not literally:) of course )

I said some of the shows. I didn’t say Netflix didn’t have some great shows. First season of daredevil was great. Second season was full of filler that ruined it. Lots of people agree that a lot of Netflix shows could use some tightening up. Chill out.

As for prime, I meant in a business sense, not a quality sense.

I think in a business sense Amazon have it nailed! Their app is on everything, you can buy the shows and films or rent them through them, and for your Prime sub you get those brilliant shows plus fast delivery plus music plus other perks. Value wise it cannot be beaten. Apple has a long way to catch up as currently it’s app is only on Apple devices and select TV’s.
As for Netflix, as I said millions seem to think otherwise.

Precisely the reason why it will fail. And I hope it does. Giving Apple ( Tim Cook ) some awful tasting Medicine is much needed.

You cant dictate creativity. There is a reason why some of the best Artist in history are like Wild Animals. And if you force your hand on it, those "Originals" might likely turn into another Planet of the Apps.

Apple needs to create Platform, not content. As someone has pointed out, this along with Self Driving Cars has been the biggest distraction to Apple, along with AR. Project Titan is gone, and now we have this and AR.

Oh come on. Millions think every Netflix show is great? Seriously? Nothing there that can be improved? No reputation for filler episodes that don’t move the plot along?

Just stop it.

You don’t think positive buzz matters? it absolutely does. Even if it’s not about a specific show but Apple’s approach. So far all the rumors suggest a disaster.

No, I mean positive buzz tells us nothing about whether the shows are any good. It does tell us something about their ability to spin PR.

Doesn't seem like a good start. I support original content because I think they can make a good product, but they need to be more hands off. Hire the best writers, directors, and actors and let them run the show. You can't be nitpicking during the creative process or you are going to end up with junk. I am sure it all has to do with making things family friendly, which can still be good content, but they need to lay out guidelines up front and let them roll.
Who is they? Tim Cook and Eddy Cue? The only argument someone can make for Apple being in the original content business is they have more cash than they know what to do with and can fund projects. But I’m sure we could all come up with lots of other things they could spend their cash on. Is it something they could charge people $15/mo for (which is what Wall Street wants)? Who knows. But it probably would be more compelling than this.

I don’t buy this NY Post article for a second.

“Don’t be so mean”? That literally sounds like a made up quote in a made for clickbait story. The idea that Cook is sending notes on an episode by episode basis and firing/hiring writers is less than believable.

They’ve hired top execs who know what they’re doing and put them in charge. If Cook or Cue did provide any notes, they’d be smart enough to throw them away.

The Apple-hate crowd here at MR is going to have a field day with this one lol. 300 comments by noon easy.

Easier said then done as Apple can’t back off. That isn’t them. I still don’t think it’s worthwhile and will never break even. Now it’s starting to sound like a distraction that isn’t likely to end well. If they wanted original content Time Warner was for sale not long ago. Apple had a chance to own Superman, Harry Potter, etc.

Roll out Batman series, don’t send out “don’t be so mean” memos, and smile.

SPOILER
He is a pretty good at being gay but he loses confidence over a split up with his boyfriend
,, I am not sure I can be a good at being gay anymore ” ,, if you try hard enough, you could be a best in being gay in the universe”
He gains the confidence again as he meets a new boyfriend, and becomes the best gay in the universe
There, fixed it for you

For a Tom Cruise film history, substitute the word “gay” for “ jet pilot” “samurai” “formula driver” ...

So if anyone says anything good about a show it’s just corporate spin?

Anyway if Cook was smart he’d snatch up the guy who’s leaving HBO and put him in charge of this and give him free reign to do whatever he wants. Eddy Cue knows nothing about creating original content and shouldn’t be overseeing this at all.

Yes, if anyone says anything good about a show that nobody has seen, it is just corporate spin.

And I agree about the HBO guy.

Not really surprised, with the rubbish carpool karaoke this whole idea was doomed to fail anyway. If Apple did its job properly, let creators create, then you’ll get the shows like the ones on Amazon and Netflix..

But alas Apple want to ‘think different’ and meddle with it all. Hell they’ll probably try to patent it and claim they invented TV programmes and entertainment!

If you ignore the fact that, whether you like it or not, Carpool Karaoke was already a known success. It wasn't something Apple dreamt up, and flopped because it was crap.

These stories about being so hands on don't sound too encouraging though - it might be in Apple's DNA to control every aspect of things like hardware and software, but applying that to something like the creative arts, maybe not so much.

Apple will want highly sanitized content. why not just offer the new Disney streaming channels.
