I got a new 6S Plus because I cracked my other one, so I sold it and bought a brand new one. My old one was the TSMC chip or whatever it was called and the battery was amazing on that thing. Now my new one is the Samsung chip and wow the difference is night and day the battery is utter crap. After 2 hrs and 36 min of use I'm at %68 while my TSMC would normally be in high 70's-low 80's right now. I thought the difference was only supposed to be minimal but this is terrible and unacceptable on Apple. I'll definitely have to upgrade to a 7 Plus later this year when it releases, I can't take this. It's like I'm using a normal 6S and not a Plus. Samsung sucks and hopefully Apple doesn't use them next time around. Anyone else had experience with both chips like I have ?

I had two phones with terrible battery life. First a Samsung. Bad battery for about 2 weeks, then stabilized and was acceptable. Then a TSMC: bad battery for 2 weeks, and had to return.

Got a third phone: Samsung, excellent battery life, better than both of them by far.

In short, not all chips (regardless of them being TSMC or Samsung) are created equal.

Cheers !

What ever happened to battery calibration? Charge to 100%, let it run down to less than 5%, then recharge to 100% and see how it does. Also, check if some apps have turned on background refresh that used to be off. There's a number of reasons for additional battery drain.

Let the phone charge and drain for at least a week. Many people have reported improved battery life after phone settles down with all the background updates it seems to do when first started. Don't automatically jump on this chip difference. The difference hasn't been so great as reported by majority of people.

Also, note the low reception/connection strength of both the wifi and cellular radios on OP's battery screen shot. With background things happening, I bet those radios are really ramped up to boost signals.

Good points.

Currently 5 hour of usage and 8 hours standby. I'm listening youtube all day and the battery is at 68%. I played a few games also.

And I have a "bad" Samsung iPhone 6S plus.

I turned off background app refresh completely for all apps and I let the phone drain all the way and charged it up to 100% and still no difference. With only 2 hours and 7 minutes of usage I'm at 78%. Last night when I drained it down to 0% I only had about 8 hours and like 30 minutes of usage time which is just pathetic. On my old TSMC model 8 hours of usage I still had like 20% battery life left.

My 6S has the TSMC chip. Here is my last usage screen cap. I get about the same usage as I get on my 6S+ and 6+. I use all three phones daily so my usage gets divided between the three phones PLUS a Note Edge.

Of course what you do on the phone affects battery life. I don't watch videos or play any games. It's just basic app use and some Safari use as well as music. I keep WiFi off and always have background refresh on. I don't do anything special or keep anything off.

Notice that it does not say that the phone has been plugged in since last full charge.

OP I'm in the same boat as you. But I'm looking at 9 hours almost exactly before it runs out. Much better than the 5-6 I'd get from my iPhone 6 so I'm not complaining.

Samsung doesn't suck. Your iPhone has Samsung parts. Screen, battery, A9 chip, probably other stuff as well. Your iPhone is a Samsung phone in fact! Apple doesn't manufacturer their own devices, its contracted out.

And the iPhone 7 everyone claims to be waiting for is going to have a Samsung screen.

This "x hours of usage" thing apple shows is misleading. Some people could be using the phone with the screen off and iOS still counts that as usage, so it could be higher hours because you used it some of the time with the screen off.

Now you two will have someone oozing bitterness come in and count the minutes and tell you they don't add up and you're lying to yourselves.
Just wait....

For the millionth time. No two usages will ever be the same.

You can have 10hours usage but if majority of that is a high draining app (Facebook for example, don't go ranting how you don't use it), then it will kill your battery faster than someone who spent 10hrs on messages and safari.

Non issue. Your battery looks fine. Smh

I have a 6s and, as I have already written in other forums, i am very disappointed with the drops of 1-2% battery that may occur suddenly, in the same location, when starting using a new app or starting using safari, likely because of the localisation? Do you guys note similar irregular drops of battery percentage please? Thanks.

Battery life on 9.3 beta is awesome

14 hours usage
42 hours standby

And currently on

3 hours, 40 mins usage
19 hours standby

86% left

while you phone is showing whatever arbitrary usage/standby times, this shows you the real screen on times:

and of course, when you start using the phone while the screen is on, those numbers will be less or so... but of course, many of us dont use max brightness...

i dont have 100% brightness though, but i have seen that my 6S+ lasts only about 3-5 hours depending on what im doing with it. stanbdby times around 48 or 102hours? i could care less about great standby times.. im more interested in how long i can use the device without charging...

What kind of optimizations are you doing, if you don't mind me asking ?

Background refresh off.

Location on with all system services off except find my iPhone.

Wifi and Bluetooth radios off.

Wallpaper still.

Siri suggestions off.

Hand off and suggested apps off.

No Automatic updates or downloads.

Only one email account which is iCloud.

Might seem like a lot, but I don't use or need that stuff. So, it's a non issue for me.

Just to satisfy myself as to what would be an extreme screen on time I set my 6s Plus to never sleep had screen at about 25% brightness and watched movies, series and shows on HBO, NBC and surfed the web the remaining time. When I slept I started a movie and let it play, restarting when I woke in middle of night. I started from a full charge and took it down to 3% battery level. I was well satisfied with 16 hours of on screen time. I did this at home using wifi, AirPort Extreme ac and had cellular turned off using AT&T wifi calling. At no time did I turn the phone off. Nor did I use low power mode.

But the question then, did all the numbers be 0% procent when you started your test? Because it shows the last 24hours not the latest 16hours.

It seems that the usage and standby times (which are the same) are basically also the on-screen time since 100% charge given that the phone's screen was constantly on and the phone was always doing something.

I currently have 3 hours and 3 minutes of usage and more than 14 hours of standby and my phone 6s still has 70% of battery life.
I'd expect 6s+ to be around 80% of battery life with 3 hours of usage

I can only tell what mine shows me:

47% left

Usage: 5h 25min
Standby: about 54h

Screen on time: 1 hour
Background activity: 7min

And if you ask from me, i have no idea how to tell anything about the battery life with those numbers and what they mean. I can only see what has happened during last 24hours and the numbers are related to each other. And that is all.

And from these giving numbers people are making assumptions. I say these numbers are pretty useless crap which tells really nothing about the battery but only "what you have done lately". And i wouldnt even wonder if that was the idea in the first place to misslead masses to believe that "usage=screen time".
