So this continues on for almost two weeks now, and apparently neither Apple nor MacRumors is even going to acknowledge the issue affecting everyone here. I submitted a “tip” to MacRumors and never heard back.

Since we’re apparently going to have to live with this indefinitely, I also removed and re-added all of my cameras just to see how they would behave. I had to rebuild about 10 automatons, so not that bad. Still beats signing out of iCloud and having to re-add Apple Pay cards.

So far, thumbnails are working everywhere for about 3 hours — having not rebooted any devices yet. I’m hoping to see how long thumbnails will continue working before I have to reboot.

I am not sure if the MacRumors journalists look at these forums or not so I sent an email to their tips account.

I see lots of people asking about this on Reddit and Facebook HomeKit groups. It appears to be widespread.

They did ;-)

So, I got impatient as a test, and since I have no automations or anything linked to my cameras, I removed them and re-added them to HomeKit. Thumbnails are now updating, but still no notifications on motion.

Anybody else seeing an issue with notifications in addition to / instead of the thumbnail issue?
Just wanted to check again-- am I the only one also not getting any notifications? Trying to figure out if I have two separate issues going on, or if the notifications/thumbnails thing is linked.

Should be a separate issue. I have two cams/video doorbells, both send motion notifications as they should, but both show the >10 days old still image or black image.

I'm still getting notifications, on various camera brands, no issues on that front.

Working!

All of my cameras went offline at 4am (GMT) and came back online a few minutes later.

This seems to have done something as I am seeing the thumbnails refreshing on all of my devices

Edit: Cameras have just gone offline and reconnected and the problem is back!

Last week I tried to remove the cameras from HomeKit and log out and in to iCloud, but without success. Since 3 days I have no more issues on any of the devices!

I removed all cameras from HomeKit and re-added the cameras in HomeKit.

Even after several restarts, all previews still works accurately and the timer counts.

Big shame, based on your post I gave it a try and add a new camera.
Like before, after adding, new camera works fine with images being updated every 10s or so while at home.
After a reboot of my iOS device, all camera BUT this one have still images, so this one os working fine now.

Why a 'big shame' ?
Well, I have more than 20 cameras, with history, with configs and some are also coming from bridges (not all are HKSV) so this means a HUGE effort and lot of time to reconfigure everything (zones, notifications, times, ...).

I'll wait a bit more to see of things are getting better ;-)

Yup, I think you will have to delete and re-add every single camera......unfortunately.
After the upgrade (15.2.1), all the previously re-added cameras are working fine, all the 'still' images ones are in the same state as before.

Before 15.2.1 Yep the thumbnail was working on both my 13pm and my iPad in HomeKit but since upgrading it wasn’t working on my iPhone but still worked on my iPad which was bizarre so I had to remove the camera and re-add it and its now working

Yep, unfortunately this appears to be the fix. I re-added three cameras to test a couple weeks ago and they’ve been working since. The other cameras, not so much.

re- adding fixed it , i had to redo all my automations as my camera acts as a hub for my sensors.

Can confirm that re-adding all cams (and re-doing all the related automations...) fixes the issue now. A week ago it didn't fix it.
For me a better way than going through the sign-out-of-icloud-surgery.

Someone on Reddit is reporting that iOS 15.3 beta 2 fixes this.

Does it delete all the videos and face recognition as well after you remove the cam?

I’m only afraid on doing these cause it will delete all the stored videos and stored recognition.

I can confirm that the latest iOS 15.3 beta update fixed this. I haven’t done anything outside of rebooting my hubs and phone, until today I did the latest update and went in to check my thumbnails and they update correctly again.
