So I was planning on buying a HomePod, but now I'm going to say that the $349 I spend on it got me some entertainment for a week concerning iPhone 8 leaks as well.

So is the Apple event jsut going to be a monitor with the HomePod firmware and a Porky the Pig... t-t-t-t-that's all folks.
Pre-order next Friday.
Yeah like Tim Cook just wheels out the HomePod to the center of the stage on a desk, then leaves while Siri on the HomePod gives the keynote.

I would imagine the iphone 7s will get this 4k at 60fps too. I mean they have to upgrade the 7s somehow.

This might be a side effect of the facial recognition system requiring high resolution front facing cameras.
Great point. A 4K front camera isn't a huge feature to me although I will gladly take it. It would make sense to upgrade the camera if the primary (potentially only) form of biometrics is facial recognition. The 4K 60 fps rear camera really would be nice especially as someone above mentioned, if there is a new Apple TV coming soon that will support 4K.

Another revelation?! HomePod is really the gift that keeps on giving!
Did wikileaks write the code for the HomePod?

I'm not complaining but thanks to HomePod firmware leaks, I feel like I already know 50% of Apple's September keynote.

There is a rumor that App:)le is releasing a 4K HDR Apple TV soon...

Hopefully in September!

Maybe the HomePod will be presenting too?

Wow... How did this happen? It's almost impossible to fathom that a firmware release for a speaker that isn't even shipping holds this much information about a device Apple clearly intended to shake up the market. So far it looks like mostly good news (not sure I'm keen on replacing touch ID though)-- but if these specs turn out wrong it's going to really be damaging...

I'm just imagining some new hire hitting the "release" button and suddenly realizing they forgot to run the script that scrubs the image-- then comforting themselves that it's just the Homepod firmware and nobody's going to look at it too carefully...

I am wondering what the Iphone info is doing in the HomePod firmware. Its running a different IOS and how much does the HomePod need to know about the IPhone, certainly not it's camera resolution.

Right? Nothing.
Any info in the HomePod about the Iphone 7s? If not I start to doubt.

If the front camera records 4K (even in 30fps) it surely will be higher than 8MP, which would be great!
4K resolution is defined as 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, which is exactly 8,294,400 pixels in total, which is 8.3 megapixels. The front camera might ship with more megapixels, but 8.3MP is what's necessary for true 4K. An 8MP camera can record in 4K with some small video upscaling, and the loss in quality would be barely noticeable.

What a huge mistake releasing this HomePod firmware was. Every day there’s a new piece of information about new iPhones to be learned from it. Someone is being hanged at Apple HQ for this.

If ever there was a time for Apple to bump up the iCloud storage considerably on the free tier, the 10th anniversary iPhone release would seem to be it. Maybe they'll finally throw customers a bone and give them one year of 50 GB or 100 GB of iCloud storage included with the purchase of their next iPhone.

It surprises me, that nearly 1 month before the Keynote there are absolutly no detailed rumors about the 7S!
Yes! Good to seem I’m not the only one

Been thinking to myself: “This iPhone 8 news is great and all, but what’s coming to the iPhone 7s? Apple always has some big change or improvement for every iPhone, so why haven’t we heard anything”

The 8 news is really exciting, but the 7s is a completely mystery!

Idunno. I was just noticing the next Samsung phone talk. Then BOOM all this talk of the next iPhone. More than a month before any official announcement. So, perhaps this is just a way to get some more hype and talk about Apple and iPhones.

It sure would be nice if some of you had the ability to Read "between the lines" !

The Real News is Image Sequence capture at 60 photos per second !

Apple announced HEIF and HVEC support at WWDC 2017 in June !

Makes sense in a way. The front camera may need as much resolution as it can get if the rumor that the iPhone 8 dropping Touch ID in favor of facial recognition is true.

no and no. 8mp sensor can fulfill both tasks (4k and facial recognition) quite easily. And Apple will NOT be doing 4k 60 frames on the front camera, that is for certain.
