Now what is the long term plan for the homePod?
Connecting the dots from something Gruber wrote, it seems like the HomePod is getting into wider internal testing release, for a bunch of Apple employees to test at home. Some of whom are probably also testing iPhone 7s's and iPhone Pro's, so it makes sense to have some info about the new phones in the HomePod. But, yeah, it's likely someone's getting some very stern and disapproving looks in the offices there this week. There's always the possibility it was on purpose but that seems unlikely since it's yielding info about / generating hype for (but stealing thunder from the grand release of) the new phones, not the HomePod.Wow... How did this happen? It's almost impossible to fathom that a firmware release for a speaker that isn't even shipping holds this much information about a device Apple clearly intended to shake up the market.
Why would Apple downgrade? They already got rid of the 16GB tier, although 32GB is starting to look a little cramped these days too.
Engineer: New HomePod firmware is ready. Should we release it?
Tim Cook: Are you sure you didn't miss any iPhone 8 feature to include in the firmware?
Engineer: Do not worry, all iPhone 8 feature information is included.
Tim Cook: Release it.
Engineer: Ok.
Where do you all have this iPhone 7s stuff from? There are litterally no leaks indicating anything. There is this screen resultion that was found in the homepod but there isn't anything else to work with. And one question remains: What would a iphone 7s look like? Will they stay with the A10 chip? Or will the iPhone 7s and the 8 have the same specs internally but just a different design? There is not much room for two high end phones for Apple, unless the design will be the only difference. I don't see them putting an A11 in one phone and not the other. And dumping Touch ID on one phone but still having it on the other phone, both being released at the same time? Seems a bit messy to me.I think an iphone 8 with a high price wouldn't start at 32. 7s might start from 32, but iphone 8 will be probably start from 128, but it's apple, so they start from 64gb.
It was a single reference to 6.5-inch. In other parts of the code, the new iPhone is referred to as "D22" and "2017 iPhone."
I wouldn't be surprised if the iOS dev team was given incomplete or misleading information about the OLED iPhone. Apple separates the hardware and software teams to maintain secrecy. The display resolution and aspect ratio information in the code is correct and that's what matters.
Well, I assume they run a fullfledged iOS on there because they use the A8 chip for the homepod. And as with any code, choping things up only gets messy. There might be references which have been forgotten and then Bugs and Errors will occur. I think that they are not really finished with the OS for the homepod and not enable the restrictions we would normally face with iOS. And as other developers already noted: the normal restriction systems are not really in place with internal software, and this HomePod Update was meant for internal use only. But again, at the end of the day those are all only assumptions. I just hoope that Pearl ID is what we think it is and that it is really implemented. But guessing the date of the HomePod update and the likely launch of the phone I think all findings are pretty solid indications to what the iPhone 8 will look like.I am wondering what the Iphone info is doing in the HomePod firmware. Its running a different IOS and how much does the HomePod need to know about the IPhone, certainly not it's camera resolution.
I'm going out on a limb here:It surprises me, that nearly 1 month before the Keynote there are absolutly no detailed rumors about the 7S!
You've been waiting for years for a 4K selfie camera? It's only there for 3D facial recognition in lieu of TouchID.Damn. The iPhone 8 is going to be niceeeeee! Every feature is something we've wanted for years. This phone is turning out to be the complete package!
Yeah like Tim Cook just wheels out the HomePod to the center of the stage on a desk, then leaves while Siri on the HomePod gives the keynote.
oh yes, this is exactly the kind of conversation a CEO of a multi billion company would have...

There is just one problem with this: The reports indicate that Apple ordered 70 Mio OLED dispalys for 2017. That is the normal batch for a new iPhone. I can't imagine Apple releasing and iPhone 7s and iPhone 8 and still get 70 Mio. orders for the iPhone 8. And reports also indicate that Samsung will even produce up to 95 Mio OLED displays just for the iPhone. And all that just for the iPhone 8 alone as a high premium device? That seems pretty high to me.We can expect the exterior to be the same as iPhone 7, so a leak from the supply chain would look like iPhone we already have in our hands, except maybe for a new color.
The new SoC will probably be the same as the one of the OLED, I think there will be something inside to help machine learning and it will be of course faster than the A10 with the same architecture (low power cores and high power cores faster than the one in A10).
I think it will come with an improved sensor for the camera to further enhance portrait mode on the plus.
All this stuff is difficult to leak, and even if it does you can't know what's inside the A11 from a picture, so it wouldn't matter.
I'd really love promotion, since I tried the new iPad pro I'm craving for that display technology on the iPhone, but I'm afraid they could just keep current LCD and leave the brand new display for the premium model only.

As if the iPhone 7 camera wasn't good enough. And iPhone camera just keeps getting better and better. This is going to be one big iPhone release.

Or there’s not much to sayThat's because that part of their security is actually working as intended.
