So you're at a party...you lay your iPhone down on the table. It is scanning every single party goer's face that walks by hoping to see your face and your face alone. LOL! jk

Ahhhh. Clever if this is true. I’m sure Apple had to think of a lot of these weird scenarios when they were implementing it.
I was being sarcastic. There's no good solution to that. It could look for eyes being shut for over 1 second, but that would likely decrease its speed so that's a no-go.

My biggest concern is the battery runtime, to be that accurate and that fast, the scanning process has to be active all time.

That's the question? Touch id is not in the display, nor is it on the back. So were is it? Million dollar question?

Could have been on the power button, but no evidence of that either. So unless Apple has a last minute integrated TouchID in the display surprise in store for us, it's looking more like FaceID is replacing TouchID. I'm not sure that would be a good decision by Apple, it will definitely be missed more than the headphone jack. Maybe that's another reason the 7s will also exist, other than providing a lower-priced alternative to the iPhone 8. For those who can't let go of TouchID for the next couple of years, get a 7s.

What? Where is it indicated there is no Touch ID? At least based on that photo you posted, if accurate. Facial recognition is the likely source for Touch ID.

Infrared light travels at the speed of light. The processing is the only question.

I’m all for new tech and this seems like it’s gonna be fantastic but I adore Touch ID, it’s sinomy perfect and I don’t want I gone. Add the facial recognition but don’t remove Touch ID Apple PLEASEEEEE

It will replace TouchId. And it will be more secure and work better.
It's actually not possible to work better. Touch ID can unlock a device while it's being pulled out of a pocket. Face ID cannot. Touch ID can unlock a device at extremely oblique angles to the face, such as being held near a payment terminal. It's unknown if Face ID can unlock with high accuracy at this distance and angle.

Face ID will certainly take more energy to run.

Apple trolling everyone would be so funny :D

Apple is soaking this all in. This is a highly Clever way for them to leak iPhone 8 information and keep the HomePod relevant in the news. It's marketing at their finest and this is what they are so good at. It's Building hype and excitement all before the launch in approximately a month. I give them credit and this no is an accident with all this leaked information. Well played Apple.

Well, one scenario could be that the iPhone 8 loses TouchID only for TouchID to resurface on the iPhone 8s/9 next year integrated into the display. The technology is there, patented by Apple. Of course that would suck for people who paid a lot for their iPhone 8 only to see a very useful feature return, perhaps even at a lower price the following year.

I just thought about something about two hours ago.

My little nephew took my phone while I was sitting with his mom in the kitchen and quickly showed me the front of my phone, not too far from my face and then ran off with the phone.

If this were the iPhone 8 wouldn't my phone just had unlocked it self and now my little nephew has access to my phone since he quickly had the front of my iPhone 7 plus not too far from my face before he ran off with it.

Well I guess all ladies need to do now is grab their man's phone at night and just hold it near their face and Bam, all the side chicks nudes and videos all for her to see.

No touchid is a BIG NNNNOOOOO for me!

iPhone 7S Plus sounding great right now.

You might have a great point here, it's a great way of keeping BOTH in the news! Although the HomePod isn't out until December.

Exactly. The HomePod is out in December and these iPhone leaks are incorporated through the HomePod, which keeps its talked about and builds the hype up until the release in December.

They have a seminar on secrecy and put millions of dollars into it, and you think they elect to leak loads of info a month out.

Conspiracy theorist much?

It might not work like that! Let's just wait and see what Apple announce, people always do this, freaking out over the new technology and then it becomes the big thing that people can't live without i.e. Touch ID

If they got rid of Touch ID it would NEVER come back. It's the most absurd suggestion.
