Like many others I am wondering what will happen to Touch ID and Apple Pay. I'm trying to maintain some optimism that Apple has come up with something that we aren't even imagining yet and will make us forget Touch ID.

They have a seminar on secrecy and put millions of dollars into it, and you think they elect to leak loads of info a month out.

Conspiracy theorist much?

Think different. And You need to Think outside the box. Absolutely I think these leaks are intentional. As if Apple would make a mistake like this, where they new the developers would locate the code and leak it. This is how Apple operates in mysterious ways with leaks in the past. They are king at marketing their products in ways you can't seem understand. This is a brilliant move on there part.

It's not intentional. They want nothing to leak. Go watch the last interview of Schiller and Federighi. They want nothing to leak.

You are welcome to believe ridiculous things but the reality is different.

Lol, I'd rather think this was an intentional leak for marketing purposes, because if it is not, they're going to want a refund on that seminar!

Thanks for your opinion. I Understand you don't get it and you can't see past your own views. But there's no doubt Apple leaked this information intentionally and I have no reason to believe otherwise, regardless of what Phil Schiller stated. This has been an ongoing thing for years now and it's nothing new with their tactics. This is just another brilliant way of marketing their products all before a month before the release of the iPhone. And you think this is an unintentional with the amount of leaks we have seen within the last two weeks and you think this is a "Mistake"? Try again.

Haha yeah and in your conspiracy theory they also held a secret seminar on secrecy and they intentionally leaked that as well.

P.S. We did land on the moon for your information.

To be fair (and I don't buy into conspiracy's) they wouldn't exactly admit it especially during an interview. Leaks happen every year, some come from workers and so on so I'm not saying Apple leak everything, but is it possible that once these other leaks come out that they have nothing to lose and decide to control the leaks.

No it's just the go-to thinking of people who don't think very hard about things. It's soooo easy to think 'hey they clearly did this on purpose'. It's a lot harder to understand that mistakes happen when the scale at which you're talking is tens of thousands of people (concerning all leaks) and hundreds of people (concerning internal leaks like this one).

That it is referred to as PEARL makes me wonder if there will be a pearl-sized dome with a lens on the front of the phone.
Hope this is a joke

I understand that but there are other opinions out there.

Think about it though. If the iPhone unlocks immediately without you having to do anything, old people are gonna love it. Cause I've met so many aunties and uncles, grandmas and grandpas that get frustrated with TouchID. So if Apple really polishes FaceID, then i'm sure it'll be a hit.

One thing is sure: this leak is going to have pretty disastrous effect on sales of other smartphones.
A lot of people will be on the fence and say "Well, let's see how it looks like and how it works, I can still by a Samsung/LG/Huawei/whatever".

And that's only the (somewhat gimmicky IMO) face-detecting.
All the AR stuff will really revolutionize online-shopping of clothes etc.

Again, you refuse to think otherwise and acknowledge others opinions, but your condescending tone doesn't devalue my viewpoint, It's just you don't agree with it. But truthfully, research past history leaks with these consistent annual 'Mistakes'. But I can't put the examples in front of you if you fail to see otherwise.

They said they hate leaks because 1: they want the consumer to be surprised 2: They don't want the hard work of their people leaking out so they can have a glory moment. If you think about it, those are ******** reasons. Apple (like all other companies) care for profits. Do you really think they would invest so much money in secrecy just so their employees can have their moment in the spotlight?
The only reason they are investing so much in secrecy is because so they can leak it themselves. they strategically leak rumors so people would keep talking about it en so people have realistic expectations on what the new iPhone will look like, and how it would function. If other people leak information, they lose the advantage of leaking information themselves at the right moment.

Wouldn't face unlock completely eliminate the safeguard we had with TouchID or passwords? Someone snaps your phone and then all the thief has to do is pointed the camera to your face to unlock, esp now that it's supposed to unlock in fractions of a second. What if the police wants to unlock your phone they don't need your fingerprint or password.

The idea it wouldn't be able to unlock with a picture or through a camera picture and when it comes to the police? pretty sure they can't do anything like that by law without your permission

however if you have nothing to hide it shouldn't matter. Don't get in trouble..simple

We landed on the moon?!! But it's hollow and the little aliens inside don't like that! They're afraid we'll mine all the cheese. Don't you know anything? Jeez, you just shot your credibility to shreds, buddy. I'm just joking.

In all seriousness we can't ever really know what is going on behind the scenes, so it is futile to argue with each other about it. An intentional leak of this magnitude seems highly implausible to some and I totally get that.

But it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility to some minds that after an initial accident, or intentionally from the beginning, there is some controlled and managed leaking going on to manage expectations. IF they really are ditching Touch ID altogether, that's no small risk. That actually does take some courage. I can see them not wanting to spring that news on a completely unaware public at a key note.

I'm not committed to either viewpoint. I will live in a state of "Eh, whatever," pending additional data.
