You can actually snag one for 79 if you time it right, Amazon seems to discount it often and that's the issue I have. I'm happy with my Echo, what does the the HomePod give me that the Echo doesn't? Especially given the exorbitant pricing
If you care about sound, vastly superior music quality. If you don’t, not much except for better security. As someone who has spend thousands on speakers and amplifiers, I obviously care about sound quality. I won’t be buying HomePods because our apartment is already covered with very high quality sound, but for people who don't have my setup and care about sound quality, I'd absolutely recommend trying one vs. Sonos.

Something like the Echo is a joke, quality wise.

I look forward to reading the reviews and owners comments on this. I had wanted one but it didn’t come out in time for Christmas and meanwhile my husband filled the house with Echos and our two free Google Home minis arrived. It’s hard to beat Alexa for verbal control over our music library.

I was trying to hold out for the HomePod to be released (hoping the wife could've gotten it for me for Christmas). However, when I found out it was delayed I gave up and bought a Google Home for the house.

I'll wait to see what the reviews say before I decide if I'll pick one up. Especially since I'm hesitant to splurge on something that's $350 when I have a better voice assistant and paid a third of the price for it.

Please explain how mono is a "magical new way to experience music." Stereo was groundbreaking in the 60s. Along with streaming and morons listening to music through their phone speakers, another step backwards for music quality.

Who said the HomePod is mono?

I’m pre-ordering, very excited.

I am hoping there is a tight integration with sonos

I just finished a chat session with Apple Support on the HomePod. I was eager to pre-order one this Friday, but now that the chat session is done, I won't be doing so. According to support, the HomePod must be Bluetooth connected to an iPhone to work, which means that the HomePod is an expensive Bluetooth speaker. I don't believe that's accurate, but each time I pressed support for details and clarification, support stuck to the HomePod requires a Bluetooth connection to work.

I never did get an answer to whether or not the HomePod will support multiple users with individual Apple Music subscriptions.

I am disappointed that Apple would open pre-orders for a device with such limited information and, as far as I see it, bad information being released by support. Why on earth wouldn't Apple release more concrete details, especially on a brand new type of device for Apple, one that's starting in the shadows of existing competition?

I wonder what caused the delay then?

Why dillue holiday raffic with a new product release.

The X was almost a holiday release.

Not to mention CES announced a ton of new HomeKit gadgets, which may not havehit the shelves
Now Apple can tie those new products in with the home pod.

I am looking forward to HomePod and appletv relationship.

The next thing I would love to see is a wireless charging iPad mini and a wall mount.

HomePod, Apple TV and iPad mini controlling the house

There is no reason to think this is a mono speaker. With seven tweeters and audio beam forming, it ought to be able to create a stereo image, though Apple’s description isn’t clear about it.

Stereo sound can't come from a single point.
Sure it can. All real musical instruments emit sound from a single point. It doesn’t require two guitars, two basses, two drums, two violins, etc. to create stereo music.

We don't even know it will stream over Bluetooth, they only mention wi-fi on the product page.
Check the tech specs page again. It lists Bluetooth 5.0.

Wireless
  • 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO
  • Direct guest access1
  • Bluetooth 5.0

wonder if one could be integrated within a Sonos setup, prefer Siri to Alexa...

It can be simulated but you need two speakers for true stereo.
That’s why all real bands have two guitars, two basses, and two drum sets, right?

You're a bit late, we've already worked out the product page was updated just before I posted that. :)
I know. This thread is very active.

Wait a min... they sold us on this feature when it was first announced. It’s not as if this is a feature Apple is holding off to version two.

Even though I’m not in the market to buy one... I’m disappointed in the omission by Apple. If they delayed it for the Holidays at least make it “ready” when released. Instead delay it for the holiday season and when released, let’s make customers wait for a highly sought after feature.

Not a good way to start off the New Year.

They did the same thing with iPhone and portrait, (coming soon)
AppleTV had a couple (coming soon)
It’s still a feature, just not available (yet)
