Replace ‘American’ in your statement by any other nationality, and it still works.
It’s part of the human condition, you got to know that.[/QUOTE]

Nope, I don’t believe that! I said a 1/3 of Americans believe that. There still 2/3 left. Very few friends I know believe that. And I don’t either.

They’ll be stunned at just how far Apple has come .... “That’s .....IT? A Bluetooth Speaker?” Ah yes. But a Bluetooth Speaker with an Apple logo AND double the price. Hello? Hello? Where they gone?

NOT a bluetooth speaker even! You can't use andriod phones with it, can only stream via airplay, and not even an AUDIO IN! And SIri just sucks (another legacy of Tim's Cook AWFUL leadership).

Apple Engineers made an amazing speaker, but someone (Idiot Tim Cook) made some bad business decision (AGAIN), and really reduced the utility and sales of the device. SHAREs could be so high if TIM just left.

AND let's be honest, APPLE can afford and it does MAKE A LOT of bad business decisions, because Steve left them an amazing product basis, developed an eco system, and left a loyal customer base. ALL Tim has done was erode the good things Steve did, albeit slowly. TIM COOK MUST GO!

When the HomePod came out, I thought “what a dud and an expensive one!” Then I bought one, bought a $99 subscription to Apple Music and what a superb combination. My family loves the combo. Plus my GMC Denali truck, which has a great sound system in it, hooks up to Apple Music and starts playing automatically when I start my truck up.
I can watch TV in the Family room, while listening to Apple Music in the background, coming from the Living room.

Puleeze, such histrionics. Do you have anything useful to offer?

I hate how people keep trying to tell me that this thing is a bargain because of how great it sounds, there is no way Im paying that much for a speaker. Just like Im not buying a Gucci belt no matter how good the leather is.

The same comment can apply to any of the items denoted in your signature. To each their own.

Does Siri on these support a mix of languages? When I use Siri on my iPhone, which has Siri set to norwegian and I tell her to play an american song title, where everything I say is in norwegian but the title, she never gets the song right.

I imagine thats gonna be a problem with these speakers as well

I use my Apple TV here in Japan. If I set it to Japanese, I can’t use any English with Siri, but I can easily switch the dictation between the two. But with HomePod, I’m sure there’s no way to easily switch.
[doublepost=1547423717][/doublepost]Wow, still no Japan.

I want to buy this, but not without a line input.

Obviously you haven’t heard one , or know much about it. It’s not even a “Bluetooth speaker “. And yes it is well worth the price.

Just because it connects via Wi-Fi doesn't mean it can't also offer a Bluetooth input option. Google, Amazon, Bose plus several other Wi-Fi connected speakers have a Bluetooth input option.

Yet the tech specs mention it has Bluetooth 5.0... very short sighted on Apple’s part to remove the feature as not everyone wants to use Apple Music.

You don’t have to use Apple Music on HomePod. You just won’t be able to control it with Siri.

It’s not a Bluetooth speaker in that you cannot connect a Bluetooth sound source to drive it. It has to get its source via WiFi and it never had Bluetooth for that purpose.

Despite the fact that I have one and I do enjoy the way it sounds, I will not recommend it at its current price. It’s too limited for the money they ask for it.
They need to update this thing by adding a line input and dropping the price to $200-250.

But it DOES have Bluetooth 5.0. Literally says so on the spec page: https://support.apple.com/kb/sp773?locale=en_US

You just can't use the Bluetooth connectivity as an input option for no valid reason. Many people are referring to this stupid Apple decision.

Well, I guess I’m in the ballpark, as I paid $299 for my HomePod!

Although he was dramatic and I disagree with his opinion of Tim Cook, I do agree that the HomePod has been, and will continue to be, a tough sell due to incompatibility with current TVs. Does Apple really want to double down on producing devices that unnecessarily remove audio ports?

An inherently lossy one. Stereo AirPlay2 is CD-quality, and if you’re streaming from a lossless-rip (as I generally do) then that’s lossless every step of the way to the air.
