Everyone should fill their homes with HomePod.
They sound incredible and completely destroy all the competition, including Sonos (whose products I have now completely replaced in my home with an array of HomePods)

This kind of thing is always open to personal taste, but overwhelmingly the HomePods are rated much higher than pretty much everything in the Sonos range.

So CD quality will be worse than lossless rips from a... CD?

Maybe I put it poorly. If the rip is lossless, and the transmission is lossless -- both of which are true of you're running a pair of HomePods from a lossless rip in a home iTunes library -- then that's two kinds of potential sound degradation that are now out of the equation. Both lossy rips and lossy transmission via BlueTooth work against sound fidelity.

Do you even own one? I have 2 but I really want a 3rd...next time they go down to $250 I am on it.

If, as you say, the HomePod is by far the best sounding smart speaker on the market then I'm not sold on the concept of smart speakers when it comes to sound quality.

Bluetooth streaming is absolutely not good for high end speakers.Airplay is lossless.

I am sorry to rumble the critical point pf view towards bluetooth... or maybe not.

What do you conclude from the Bluetooth 5 technology? Perhaps not lossless, but at least better then most of you folks make it seem:
