They’ll be stunned at just how far Apple has come .... “That’s .....IT? A Bluetooth Speaker?” Ah yes. But a Bluetooth Speaker with an Apple logo AND double the price. Hello? Hello? Where they gone?

I guess you don't remember the iPod Hi-Fi?

An inherently lossy one. Stereo AirPlay2 is CD-quality, and if you’re streaming from a lossless-rip (as I generally do) then that’s lossless every step of the way to the air.

So CD quality will be worse than lossless rips from a... CD?

Dumping HomePods on the Chinese because Americans don't want it .. nice
The HomePods are a wonderful piece of technology.
They make me happy every day.

If you want to portray them as unattractive for America, I don't understand your motivation. Are you still a very inexperienced poor young boy/girl that just want to somehow provoke?

Bluetooth streaming is absolutely not good for high end speakers.Airplay is lossless.

There are many good quality AirPlay and Wi-Fi speakers that offer Bluetooth and/or a line in as additional connection options. Of course it isn’t as good, but it’s offered as an additional option. Options are good especially when you’re paying the price Apple wants for these things.

would be a big hit if they added a karaoke mode :p

That would be very nice!
[doublepost=1547441418][/doublepost]Wow, ¥2799 in China and $2799 in Hong Kong? So the Chinese price is approximately $3250 in HKD, interesting.

In a Surveillance State, using a internet connected listening device doesn't seem all that attractive

Yes, and I bet the Chinese won't find it that attractive either.
Oh wait, which Surveillance State were you talking about? Ours or theirs?

Does Siri on these support a mix of languages? When I use Siri on my iPhone, which has Siri set to norwegian and I tell her to play an american song title, where everything I say is in norwegian but the title, she never gets the song right.

I imagine thats gonna be a problem with these speakers as well

Same for all languages except English :-( I wish I could tell Siri everything in English but I'd have to set my whole phone to English which is not what I want.

About 1/3 of the American citizenry believe they are superior to any person not an American citizen.

I believe I am superior to anyone who's not me. But nobody cares.

Imagine the courage to migrate billions to a low-fi headphone solution

Don't be silly. I'm sure the launch of this product in China automatically requires the government get a backdoor into it. It's exactly the type of always-on surveillance device they would want to force on everyone, if they could without attracting negative international attention.
Nice to hear. Anxiously waiting for anything to supersede Siri - even a backdoor, almost...

But it DOES have Bluetooth 5.0. Literally says so on the spec page: https://support.apple.com/kb/sp773?locale=en_US
You just can't use the Bluetooth connectivity as an input option for no valid reason. Many people are referring to this stupid Apple decision.
Ah, incompatible - although 5.0 compatible.
Anyway, why does it have BT ? Only for set-up....?

Siri could use C3PO to help translate other dialects and this would help boost sales of Homepods. ;)

NOT a bluetooth speaker even! You can't use andriod phones with it, can only stream via airplay, and not even an AUDIO IN! And SIri just sucks (another legacy of Tim's Cook AWFUL leadership).

Apple Engineers made an amazing speaker, but someone (Idiot Tim Cook) made some bad business decision (AGAIN), and really reduced the utility and sales of the device. SHAREs could be so high if TIM just left.

AND let's be honest, APPLE can afford and it does MAKE A LOT of bad business decisions, because Steve left them an amazing product basis, developed an eco system, and left a loyal customer base. ALL Tim has done was erode the good things Steve did, albeit slowly. TIM COOK MUST GO!

I concur. I have an iPod Touch 5 Gen and I can't connect to the Homepod and that would mean I need to buy the latest generation. If I could connect via Bluetooth, I would have bought the Homepod but this is a lost sale for Apple. If the Homepod sounds just as good or better than the other competitor, they could have made more sales if one can connect via Bluetooth or through an input jack.

What about Europe?
This is getting so annoying. Already started looking for some other speaker.
Lame .

I can watch TV in the Family room, while listening to Apple Music in the background, coming from the Living room.
Watch tv and listen to background music? Your ears work apart from each other?
Such a nonsense.

Actually some of the other WiFi/bt/ap boutique speakers in my opinion have better sounding fidelity. The mids on the HomePod seem more recessed than my other choices. To my ears they also sound like BOSE. There is something artificial about it.

Do you even own one? I have 2 but I really want a 3rd...next time they go down to $250 I am on it.

The lack of Bluetooth and the fact that China is the type of government that can/would shut down Apple Music on a whim means this thing could become a brick at a moments notice.

It has AirPlay you know.
