Ability to pair as rear surround sound speakers please.
I suspect that that is the long term plan but I don’t expect Apple to just throw out a clone of ChatGPT. It should be something more focused on things you can do on your devices and with better privacy protections and some guardrails to keep it from going “Sydney” on us.Not even rewrite, destroy Siri.
Time to start fresh with a better neural architecture
The current model could potentially make all your wishes true (for 1. and 2. Apple just needs to allow HomePods to work as Bluetooth speakers and microphones).
Let us stereo pair a set of homepods with a set of minis for a true surround sound listening experience!
It'd be nice if Apple would allow more customization of pairing/grouping of HomePod units? Allow customers to build groups of 4-6, 10*.. 2 HomePods, 2 minis, 2 mini v2s, around a family room... set up 2 Mini 1s above people as dedicated Atmos use speakers when used with an AppleTV? Just let users be more creative in general with the pairings/groupings?
I disabled "Hey Siri" but I still press the top button to use a few commands I know will work:
"Add eggs to the grocery list"
"Play WNYC FM radio"
"set a timer for fifteen minutes"
"turn off the living room light"
"what's the temperature outside"
But I keep it pretty tight and rarely try anything new, because it will just leave me yelling if I try to get too clever.
People judge the full-sized HomePod pretty harshly based on how bad Siri is, but if you *just* look at it as an AirPlay device, it's a great speaker. I recently invested in a second one and it was a massive improvement over just one, especially for watching TV/movies.
Sure took the wind out of your guessing sails there, huh Gurman? 😂Gurman has since expressed skepticism about what a new HomePod mini could offer since "the latest HomePod doesn't include any major new functions that aren't already in the $99 mini."
Okay, so I’m not the only one with this issue. These devices are absolute trash. I have two and it’s just easier to use a Bluetooth speaker or even Bluetooth connection to an Echo.
Try watching a YouTube video and then Airplaying the audio to a HomePod mini and it just stops the video. Have to quit the video and re play it to make it work.
50% chance of it playing a song I own from iTunes. Speaks waaaay too loudly at night. Can’t even play audiobooks purchased directly from Apple.
This doesn’t need a hardware refresh. It needs a software overhaul.
Upgraded the SOC that happened to contain an older Wi-Fi chipset. No impact to most people.Probably what they did with the OG Homepod. Downgrade the WiFi chipset and numbers if microphone and speakers.
I wish you could target specific devices or at least types of devices. Let me name my damned devices, Apple.Hey Siri basically invokes different device each time in my home! it's very frustrating. There is no way to control which device responds. I prefer my HomePod to respond at home, but its always random, sometimes watch, sometimes phone and sometimes my wife's phone! why? I thought all apple devices recognize voice.
Siri is already outdated as is!
If not for this weird experience, I would have got more homepod minis around home.
Soo true… granted, it’s useful when it works. However just today Siri triggered somehow when I didn’t say a thing about her or to her, on and on about a nearby hotel. I said NO, STOP multiple times…. Siri proceeded to list another hotel location and info…WTF? So weird…. Thank goodness when I tapped the dang top surface the jabbering finally stopped. Sheesh.Really my only big complaint about the HomePod/Mini is that Siri is dumb as a bag of rocks. Other than that mine is a perfect little kitchen device.
A fall release for a deep red color would be wonderful. We definitely need a Product Red HomePod Mini 2.
That’s 100% what I came to say.Let us stereo pair a set of homepods with a set of minis for a true surround sound listening experience!
