What previous poster say, until Siri does what it's supposed to do (without being a teenager) and until it stops harassing me with "... on Apple Music". Nope, not happening.

I don't have a subscription, I don't want one - but I did purchase my songs on iTunes and I expect them to play - without maneuvering in corners to get Siri to play what I want (and constantly telling me about Apple Music). Homepod mini is basically an advertisement machine, for which I payed.

Playlists for iTunes purchases content would great, then I can start a long playlist and don't have to talk to Siri anymore after getting it to play the playlists (which I assume to be a frustrating experience, but again if the playlist is 10 hours of content I can live with that).

These devices are absolute trash. I have two and it’s just easier to use a Bluetooth speaker or even Bluetooth connection to an Echo.

50% chance of it playing a song I own from iTunes. Speaks waaaay too loudly at night. Can’t even play audiobooks purchased directly from Apple.

This doesn’t need a hardware refresh. It needs a software overhaul.

Exactly that! I'd even say < 50% chance, and each time when it fails to play the song you most definitely own, and which it played countless times before, but now doesn't find anymore - it will be happy to remind you that if only you had "Apple Music" it would work. One great improvement would be to ban Siri from saying "Apple Music".

I wish they would work more on the software. Siri doesn't remember it's loudness settings on some of my homepods, no changing of prefered music service, no alarm sounds from (free) tune-in radio unless you pay for apple music, no bluetooth connectivity for android or other devices, not possible to change sounds for timers,...

It's a great sounding and fun looking hardware for the money, unlike the big homepod that sounds more or less the same only with too much bass added.

I need one of these for my bedroom nightstand. How good is the sound compared to the big HomePods?

I have 3 wishes :
1. Remove the delay/lag when we use them on the Mac.
2. Let us use them as a microphone on the Mac.
3. Rewrite Siri.
This is a product that would benefit from a MagSafe puck on the base or MBP style on the device and maybe even removable USB-C wire option.

Having a built-in battery maybe an option but having a battery on a MagSafe puck style base would be even better.

Have the option for Dolby Vision setup with a bunch of these placed around the room.

Tell me ain't so, I just bought 2 of the buggers. They don't sound surprisingly good for their size as I heard a lot of reviewers say. They sound what you'd expect them to sound like given their size.

I was gifted 2 and have them in the kitchen and in my bedroom. They don’t sound bad to me. I actually like them so much that I purchased the HomePod2 and have that one in my living room.

It better be wireless with Magsafe charging or no sale.
Battery and MagSafe would be great but it’d increase the price, when we want it to go down.

However,
I'd be up for a smaller travel style one so I can travel with it or take it to the garage. I think the current size would be too big to carry. I'd be happy if it lost the HomeKit functionality, but was basically an AirPod speaker. I just bought an Anker Soundcore version for this purpose, but I’d love it if it had the same function as my Powerbeats Pro as a speaker.

They don’t sound terrible to me, just not significantly better than the competition. I’ll no doubt replace them with full size ones soon enough.

Let us stereo pair a set of homepods with a set of minis for a true surround sound listening experience!
So 30+ folks like on wanting surround sound with Minis. The trouble is that unlike the full size HomePods that provide excellent sound, HomePod Minis (to date) have provided at best generally fair sound quality. Marrying good with bad should not be expected to yield good; but perhaps folks who want surround sound do not care.

I could see Apple making an excellent surround sound setup using all full-size HomePods, but my guess is y'all are unwilling to pay for that.

The huge qualifier here is that none of us have listened to new HP Minis, we are just hypothesizing about a future product. It would be way cool if Apple upped the sound quality of the new HP Minis from (today) fair to very good. In that case using them in a surround setup would make hella sense.

Neither is big. The 3.3" HomePod Minis cost a third as much as the 6.6" HomePods and the sound is maybe a third as good. The speakers and tech in the larger ones allow amazing self-balancing in a smallish (up to maybe 15'x20') space. But if you are not doing stereo anyway one HP Mini probably works for your nightstand.

Been saying this for years:

Post in thread 'Apple Inviting Some Users to Beta Test New HomePod Software'

And

Post in thread 'Apple Discontinues Full-Sized HomePod to Focus on HomePod Mini'

The homepods could be so much more…

Dolby Atmos Speakers with selfmeasurment through the mics and U1 wideband chips (they know where they are in the room) plus use your iPhone as your measurement mic for your sitting position.

Also, the homepod could be wifi repeater/routers, charging stations (magsafe on top for your phone/airpods) or portable with a battery inside and magsafe charging at the bottom.

So many more ideas for homepod but apple won‘t listen :/

Edit: and make them available in atleast black and white for normal peoples living rooms…

I mean surround sound usually has different levels of sound with the different parts, this would be no different in this case. The Homepods could handle the bass and what not, and the minis could add to the sound (and could be closer to the person watching it. I'm not saying it has to act like a $1000+ surround system, but this would be such an easy update to the software that would add so much appeal to these products.

Also, the speakers could level themselves via the mics in all of the speakers.

I find Siri quite useful on the HomePod. Son has dumped Alexa for Siri and HomePod minis. I expect it to be really good by the end of 2024. The one thing I would like is to be able to mix HomePods and Minis to create a surround sound experience. I don’t really need a HomePod with a display, but I’m sure others may have a use for it.
I find Siri quite useful too. Especially for stuff an assistant should do like emailing, texting, reminders, shopping list, playing music, control smart home stuff...etc. But for general info she is lacking and making me go to my phone for certain answers is frustrating. Google Assistant is going down hill quite fast and within the next 6 months will be as dumb as Siri...lol. Not sure what Google is doing but they are ruining Assistant. Alexa is still the king.
