To be fair Apple made this HomePod USB-C instead of direct to power outlet so you can easily have this speaker running off a battery pack for portability from what I gather

Has anyone tested using it with a battery pack yet? Mine is being shipped, but knowing I will likely get another down the road, especially if this works, I may just grab one in-store today.

Thanks. I’ll consider that option. I’m in the UK and I have just checked availability in the north of England. The HomePod Is available for collection at most stores, but not currently at my local Apple store. Delivery dates are late December at the earliest.

Wife and I are currently in the process of purchasing our first home. I can see scattering a few of these across the space, with one in each frequently-occupied room, with maybe a "standard" sized on in the living room.

Which there was some way I could output my television to a pair of 'em since they're so teeny.

I was one click away from completing my order for pickup of a pair of black HomePod Minis before I remembered that I just spent $2k on the new M1 MBA that I’ll be receiving next week.

I’ll wait until there’s a discount on the HP Mini before revisiting the idea of a purchase. Plus I already own a pair of the OG HomePods.

White in-stock at all 5 local stores but closest place with black is 230 miles away. Suppose I could have the girlfriend stop and pick it up on her way back from Chicago tomorrow.

Kind of annoying my 8:02AM pre-order day order is arriving Thursday when I can now walk in to our local Apple store and buy one.

I made several HomePod Mini orders (2 maximum per order) and while my iPhone 12 Pro Max friends ALL got their new pretty last Friday, I’m getting my purchases on Wednesday/Thursday. 🧐🤨
None of those days are November 16.
What’s up, @Apple!?!

You can make a “stereo pair” from the original HomePods as well as the Mini. (It’s right there in HomeKit settings app). Buy 2 for your TV. 😉

My understanding was it won't allow you to set them as the default Apple TV Speaker. If it will, these are a perfect companion product for bedrooms. My stepdaughter shares a wall with us and I'd love if her TV Speaker were next to her bed.

I wish I could actually walk into a Apple store but no where in Oregon can I do that and I can’t even make an appointment on the apple app because they are always booked. Seems odd.

Which smart speakers have a battery?
Sonos Move.

WiFi, AirPlay2, Bluetooth, can work as part of a Sonos network or separately, portable, 11 hours of battery life, water resistant, purported to have very respectable sound, voice assistants (Google or Alexa, alas no built-in support for Siri, but that’s as much Apple’s fault as Sonos’- also, the microphone can be muted, and won’t be listening unless you connect it to Google or Alexa), active/constant adaptation to the surrounding environment (similar to full-size HomePod, Sonos calls it TruePlay), and it connects to a positively ridiculous number of streaming services (something you’ll never get with HomePod).

It doesn’t matter how many he buys, they’re still not going to output sound from his TV!
If the TV does AirPlay - as more and more are doing these days - then it could work, without an AppleTV.

Edit: Hmm, wondering now if the TV’s AirPlay support covers audio output or only A/V input, or if that varies between manufacturers.

I'm thinking of selling my original HomePod (purchased a few months ago) and getting this instead. Small studio in NYC with no need to "fill" a big room with sound. I'd pocket a decent profit, too.

Thoughts?

Is yours still processing or does it say preparing for shipment? I ordered at 8:09am on preorder day and it’s still sitting in processing with delivery Nov 17 - Nov 19.
Mine says preparing to ship and I have a preshipment sitting in my FedEx account with a Thursday delivery but nothing has actually shipped yet.
