Makes sense, the stores have limited storage and presentation space. Rent isn't cheap.

Why keep something that doesn't generate enough revenue?

Using a stereo paired HomePods with Apple TV 4K (2nd gen) is seriously good. Obviously not as good as higher-end soundbar or home theater system. But miles ahead of most 2.1 soundbars and built-in TV speakers.

If you already have one HomePod, pick another before it's too late.
I did that and I agree it sounds so good with the Apple TV 4K

Apple recently seems to be more interested in lower end, more casual products such as Homepod Mini and new un-attractive iMacs ,vs more higher end products such as regular Homepod, regular iMacs and iMac Pro..
who knows maybe soon they discontinue Macbook Pro and only make kiddy color Macbook Airs instead..whatever sells more to masses and brings more margins I guess..
This is... the incorrect takeaway from this. The HomePod is an excellent sounding device, but who it is for is a bit of a muddle. If you're someone that likes "high-end" sound stuff there are a number of ways in which this misses the mark, most notably the lack of an aux port. Many of the people who want a smart speaker just need for it to sound "good enough" at a cheaper price point. So the HomePod, in its current iteration, languished between the two markets. I think if Apple does a re-think, which they seem to be doing, they'll come up with something even better.

here is to the best sounding speaker ever. RIP.

sure do hope they come out with a replacement

I do have two minis, and they are great as well, but not as great. the processor is slow which makes updates slow, no Atmos which I have come to love. There was a beta update today, maybe some new features

Sad. The HomePods sound amazing esp in stereo. I got rid of my Klipch 5.1 setup with a Denon 4k receiver, cable boxes etc. All I use now are 2 HomePods, ATV 4k 2nd Gen, LG OLED 65 and just the one new ATV remote. Simple but looks and sounds great and I have all the apps I need for streaming on the ATV. I hope they come out with something better then the minis in the future. What would be sweet is if they allow a way to use 2 minis as rear speakers for surround.

Paid $200 for the first one, paid $320 for the second one when I heard about being discounted and fear of losing the chance to get other, if they come back to the $200 price again, I will buy other 2, I seriously love the sound, even more when paired in stereo and the new Apple TV capabilities make then more enticing.

Nice setup I did similar. FYI, If you get the new ATV box, you can use HomePods as the audio return channel for the TV. Not a necessity but nice to have.

Thanks I saw that but nothing on the LG tv I want to use at this time. Got everything I need on the ATV including Sling for my cable. My LG is just a monitor with the volume turned off.

They work for your computer setup also. :)

But I had to chuckle when you mentioned Apple marketing anything as high fidelity. Even their lossless rollout is not without issues. :D
Good point, my callout is your average consumer might be swayed coming from TV speakers. (like what Sonos has done to make consumers prioritize high quality sound

$399 Two HomePods
$499 - ATV, Two HomePods

much better market to compete than to Alexa, google home speakers assistants.

Siri is the lowpoint of these things.

Maybe a new model that sounds even better with 24/196khz sound quality and ability to add minis for surround. Im in.

Wow, so instead of lowering the price to something more reasonable, they simply discontinue the product altogether. Think of all the time/energy/resources that went into designing and building the HomePod. Sad.

I love my 2 homepods, but one started making popping sounds when not playing music 3 months ago. Both are 5 months old.

Called Apple and they installed a homepod log catcher profile in my iphone 11 pro. They want to see the logs as they are not sure is a hardware problem (which I am sure it is…). Let’s see how it ends. I am noting all times it pops for Apple engineers. I think it was easier to just send me a new one…

Apple either needed to make Siri work with the Homepod or reduce the cost of the Homepod and just leave it as a great speaker without Siri.

Right. Although I do not have a 4K tv it is great for the setup you describe. I went and bought a pair after they announced their demise and just listening to music on them is so much better than, and they serve their own purpose HomePod mini’s. The bass is great on the tv setup not overwhelming but you know it’s there.
