Missed chance.

Apple should of sold them in pairs for $399, and marketed them as high fidelity home theater.

I have a pair connected to my ATV and these things are amazing.
(New ATVs also let you use them as the audio return channel for your TV.)
Agreed. I got my HomePod pair for $200usd each and I think they have incredible value for the price, even more so with the recent home theater features.

sad. homepod itself wasn’t a bad product. the price is what killed it… also siri’s stupidness.
Price didn’t kill it. Apple killed it. I’ve paid more that $600 before on speakers and these were well worth the price. What exactly is Siri’s stupidness? Everyone on planet earth knows Siri is the 3rd ranked assistant and I could care less. I don’t ask Siri silly stupid asinine questions. Everything I ask Siri has been within reasonable expectations and 98% of the time I’ll get the answer I wanted. I don’t have to worry about being spied on like Alexa when looking at the wife’s smart speaker and it is recording up a storm until you tell it to stop.

yes, having two is awesome. i cant even put it on the highest volume, cuz it's so strong. if you can find the second one at B&H, or Best Buy, do it!
Agreed. The bass is pretty decent — probably not as good compared to dedicated subwoofer, but the HomePod stereo pair does a pretty good job of finding a good balance.

It's a really good tradeoff if you want to simplify your TV sound setup, which I did. I had the HomePod pair anyway and wound up ditching my TV sound bar and woofer.

I’m pretty sure we’re going to see a new HomePod… if you go to the Apple website and search for HomePod, the “current”/discontinued model is labeled as HomePod 2018. Why differentiate like that if a new model isn’t imminent?
It’s been like that for at least a year now. I remember shortly before the Mini launched that going to the page on the HomePod and seeing the browser tab list it as HomePod (2018) way back last summer.

Old news.

Thanks for the tip. I just found one on eBay for a bit over $200. Looking for the second one now!

This is a big appeal to me. I don’t like having a giant sound bar, giant subwoofer, and giant box for the rear speakers. Having just two speakers (with woofers) that work with the new Apple TV 4K over ARC would be ideal.

As I wrote before on another thread, I’d love revamped HomePods (w/o camera or display). But for those few who have written that HomePods are “the best speakers” or have “the best sound” should inform themselves better before issuing pronouncements that are not factual. This is because HomePods are decidedly not a product created with serious audiophiles in mind. Serious audiophiles will invest untold thousands upon thousands in audio equipment that would blow the HomePod out of the water. That said, they are good for what they are and for their price point. And the convenience of voice activation is a plus, too.

If they'd have just dropped the price a little, I would have considered buying one. The mini doesn't really appeal to me - I want more sound than my laptop speakers.

Sad day. I love my two Homepods. Bought both of them for $200 at different BB sales. I also love my two HomePod Mini’s.

I was thinking about getting a stereo pair of HomePods to use for Apple TV / ARC audio. From what I’ve read the bass is pretty solid. Can anyone comment on this?
I can. Hans Zimmer going ham on the pipe organ in Interstellar or Dogfights in Star Wars (deep "space" sounds) sound incredible. It's easy to shake the house with them.

I have 2 white HomePods unopened still in their boxes, and 2 that I'm using now. Waiting to finish my gameroom.
I got them when Best Buy had for $199. For some reason I thought I bought them in 2020...

But when I checked Best Buy site for my purchase history... I got them June 20th 2019! I hope they still work!

I still have 4 Sonos Ones unboxed also. I think I should be done renovating this August.

Strange some people still expect a new homepod model in 5 days. Obviously this won’t happen: they would not have discontinued the current model but just waited to announce the successor.

Instead they clearly stated their focus is now on the Mini. I don’t see how they could have made it any clearer.

Hmm. Something about those Apple products that resemble trash cans not flying off the shelves.

If Apple includes an EQ in the next HomePod, I’m in. Until then, Sonos it is. Not everyone can afford to have apartment complex-shaking bass with little to no control over it.

Alexa w/ speaker integration > Siri w/ HomePod or *insert any Apple Product* integration.

Man, I still use my HomePod daily. I'm so annoyed by the decision to terminate the line. I should've learned my lesson with the iPod Hi-Fi....

I was fortunate enough to purchase the last space gray HomePod from my local Best Buy about a month ago. I made the purchase with the app for in-store pickup.

When I got the HomePod I realized it says "HomePod Demo" on the box... It works like my other HomePod I picked up on release day, but I thought it was strange.

Does anyone know anymore about this? My thought is that it could've been an in-store demo unit but it arrived completely packaged and even had the plastic protective cover to peel off the top of the speaker.

I sold my one year old HomePod a few months ago for nearly as much as I originally paid for it. Interestingly, I don't really miss it.

I am not surprised by this. Why have a lingering product on the shelf that is no longer being made? That would give customers the wrong impression not to mention possibly take sales away from the mini.
