I have five, and everyone of them has been dropping. With stereo pairs one speaker will just stop playing for 10 seconds, then starts back up again. Then both stop for a few seconds. These are not running any betas. I wouldn’t post complaints about running a beta.
Same for me. Better when streaming from my SE 2020, but useless from my M1 MacBook Air. Also felt the bass was greatly reduced recently. I've unplugged until there is an update.

14.6 with a stereo pair and only strange thing I’ve encountered recently is they both started showing up individually as airplay targets while still showing as a stereo pair in HomeKit. Unpairing and pair again took care of it. 🤞

I know, I know, it's harsh to say it, but any dork who bought 19 HomePods kinda deserves this. For the amount of money he spent he could have had WAY better audio, and a system that wasn't locked into Apple's limited ecosystem. Now his HomePods are just ... LOCKED. LOL.
Any “dork” that buys a Lamborghini doesn’t “deserve” to get it keyed.

Dictating how folks should most optimally spend their money is pathetic. Do what makes you happy as long as it isn’t infringing on someone else; there’s little left in life beyond that.

One of my HomePods just failed as well. Wouldn’t turn on! I tried multiple plugs and brought it to the Apple store. It was bricked from the hardware side of things. If this issue is widespread, then this most certainly is a case of planned obsolescence. The Genius Bar employee offered me a replacement for $279 or to buy a HomePod mini, of which I opted for the latter.
If Apple doesn't replace them for free that's a massive fail. Unless it's the beta that caused it, then it's probably more complicated. I'm here reading a day later, because we want to plug our HomePods back in. I'm hoping I unplugged them in time. Didn't stop to check which version they were on before unplugging.

I have two HomePods from original launch and three HomePod minis. All of them began to act strangely after the 15.0 developer beta of which I was invited to. Muffled noise during playback, disconnecting from wifi, no control via Home app, etc…. Most damaging is during the installation of 15.0 on one of the HomePod originals. It restarted to install and never recovered. Now is unresponsive and continuously blinks volume controls.

I called Apple Support and they offered no assistance multiple time because it’s out-of-warranty. Upon calling the 6th time and advising this issue happened via the AppleSeed beta 15.0 that they invited me to, the Senior Advisor arranged for me to have it replaced at no cost. My suggestion is keep calling until you get the right senior advisor that isn’t guarding Apple’s purse like it’s their own!

Right on. Junior level people rarely feel empowered for unusual situations. Since 1984 I’ve called Apple hundreds of times and almost all eventually ended with me feeling very taken care of.

Updates and HomePod. Those that have had them since day one know the problems. It’s a risk every time.

Certainly not with me. Bought my first one on launch day at full price at the Apple Store. Over the years I purchased six more, four at Best Buy for $200.

Over that time period I've had *zero* issues with my seven HomePods - all running 14.6. None. All sound amazing, especially the two stereo pairs made up of four original HomePods.

Or allow your Homepods to be auto updated?
This is not the user's fault- if Apple releases a public beta and it breaks Apple hardware (especially a standalone device that doesn't have so much as a port for plugging in anything), it's Apple's fault.
Totally agree! I've NEVER done auto updates....and especially for the ATV or HomePods. Everyone who has been on these forums for a while should understand.....

Same issue here. Updated bricked my release-day HomePod. Apple won't do anything to help.

Literally the worst experience I've ever had with an Apple device.
Lucky you didn't go thru the 2011 MBPro AMD GPU 'SCANDAL'.....my 'top of the line/priced ' machine is still sitting dead....

When asked about it on the Reddit link all they say is "They are not just for me my children and wife also have HomePods. 19 HomePods in the whole family."
I was honestly thinking the same thing “19?!?? I can barely deal with Siri across a quad setup LOL”

Honestly, as an individual I couldn’t justify owning more than a single pair for stereo purposes but being that I’m always concerned about backups I have a second pair that I use less often.

So ok….I’ve got two original homepods. Don’t THINK I’m suffering any issues, but after reading all this thought I’d better check what software version they’re on. Within the home app, I go to home settings, software update….and get it to check for software update. It’s not instant by any means but it eventually reports back that all accessories are up to date….BUT at this point it won’t display what software version they’re on. Nothing on screen at all. Performed the act a number of times and it just won’t display anything. The Tops of the homepods were mildly warm certainly not hot and honestly don’t know if this is within normal parameters or not so personally I’ve done what others have done and switched my homepods off from the electricity. Can anyone tell me why the home app is not telling me what software version the homepods are on?

And what makes me happy is laughing at a dork who bought 19 HomePods.
Now if you tell me thats a pathetic way to get a little smile for a moment of my day, then you would be contradicting your own 'dont judge what makes people happy' philosophy.
Make sense?

Which is rude, cruel, and disrespectful.

Calling out other people improper behavior is not only OK, I believe is necessary, particularly in the current times that we live in.

And no, in doing so he is not contradicting his way of thinking, because the 'dont judge what makes people happy' philosophy has one caveat : "as long as it isn’t infringing on someone else", which is exactly what your attitude is doing.

And those 19 homepods were for his whole family, wife, children and so on.

Excuse my English.

Just turn the HomePod upside down and wait a few minutes. At some point, the startup sound will be heard. Before that, disconnect it from the power supply for 1-2 minutes.

Deactivate Theater Mode and ungroup the HomePod in the Home app.

I know they’re discontinued and all, but I wish there could be some kind of firmware update.

Oh, they will continue to update the firmware for quite some time. No worries there.

I was answering to this:

Time for conspiracy theory, the fatal update to have people buy a new one
