Glad this goes mainstream now. Apple software turned into a big mess in the last 10 years and no one really points that out.

All the reviewers out there are just praising Apple hoping to fall into Apple’s whitelist and be sent a new gadget to test a week before day one to publish a YouTube video.

Between disasters on MacOS and bricked homepods, devices not responding, app crashes on Mac , the software department is really crumbling apart while the hardware team is on top of the world with pure perfection year over year.

That’s a ridiculous amount of money to spend on not very good speakers lol. For that money, you could have a tremendous hifi system that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end.

dude probably had one or two in each room and a multi speaker setup in the living room. In the context of whole-home audio, it's not that outrageous (not that I'd ever choose HomePod in that situation tho)

Bought two Original HomePods new in the box. They arrived yesterday. I plugged them in, brought my iphone near each, added them to my Home app...

Apple started updating the software to 14.6, and one promptly died.... I got the flashing plus and minus signs. I phoned the company, and told them these pieces of junk are both going back.

Just waiting for the shipping label to show up, and they are GONE.

I’ve been reading that most people in this thread seem to have trouble with them either doing nothing or stereo-paired with an AppleTV. I have mine paired to a Mac mini. I haven’t personally noticed anything yet, but I definitely won’t be plugging them back in.
Running them without having them paired as been problem-free for me since the beginning. But pairing them in stereo just seems to make them fail to connect via Airplay2.

My 6 HomePods on iOS 14.6 are all hot to touch and they’ve all been idle for hours. I’ve just plugged them out. 4 of them are out of warranty. They’re all stereo paired and connected to Apple TVs - this shouldn’t be an excuse for why it’s happening.

I hope this gains coverage for Apple to take notice and put a fix in 14.7.

Some posters are focusing too much on the mention of iOS 15 beta. This is happening on an officially released software version of 14.6!!!

This. Is. The. Risk. Of. Beta. Software.

“oh it doesn’t work properly, it’s soooooo annoying!”
I know the risks.....hence why I mentioned I submitted feedback.....also an employee so I see the risks daily......the HomePod betas are a public beta and with how smooth the others are running I expected the same with this one

Yeah its worth so much

I'm just telling you what Apple told me. You can choose to believe it or not. If they have to honor a 12 month warranty I'll take it back in there but that is not what they said.
lol. Maybe in the US you don’t have consumer protection laws.

My 3 HomePods (not paired) are fine. Maybe your six are getting excited off each other??

Glad I came here. I've been having issues for a week now I think. Both HomePods work, but only one is responding to Airplay and the Home app (Which is a major joke and crashes all the time for me. Can't even delete alarms). I can tap the top of the other and it will play music. I have reset and everything else under the sun besides throwing them out my windows. Glad I checked here.

I have a stereo pair connected to a new Apple TV 4K w/ ARC mode on.

Yesterday I noticed that my left homepod was not playing audio and figured it was because of some weird bug caused by a phone call I took over it. The problem resolved itself with a restart though. They were noticeably hot to the touch 30 minutes ago while TV was on. Considerably cooler now that I turned the TV off.

Each HomePod was purchased in December so I’m not too worried about the warranty but I‘m not interested in the PITA it will take to get it replaced if one or both has a heat-related hardware failure.
