I was initially thinking of white until I saw them in person at the store. I ended up getting the black one.
Any updates on how the white HomePod is holding up?
I have a black one in my living room and I’m thinking of getting a white one for my bedroom but I’m concerned with dust and dirt.

HomePod lends itself to being moved from room to room. I think the space grey will hold up better over time from being handled. The fabric looks impossible to clean.
One can also use another car analogy to relate this idea, like the interior of a Tesla Model X or Rolls Royce that's all white, the leather/material easily becomes faded and shows wear. While the black option does show wear, it does not become faded nearly as easy.
Had a White from initial launch, and it is still pristine. Choose white as we have light coloured walls and my wife does not like 'black' electronics that stand out. Also purchased some used units, one of which did have a couple of marks on it, but cleaned up fine using a normal household cleaning wet wipe. Looks as good as new now. So in summary white keeps clean fine, and if you do get mucky paws on them, they are reasonably easy to clean. I now have 4 white Homepods they get used everyday. Stereo pair is awesome 
I chose black because I preferred the look of it (which surprised me) and also because it’d be sitting pretty much next to my telly but it’s good to know the white is wearing well as I can see myself choosing it if I get another for a different room.
I have 4 in white. All look exactly like they did out of the box. To be fair, I have a cleaning lady that comes in twice a week and she's very thorough and might be responsible for it.
If you get a stereo pair, thn go for one of each colour. That way, if you move them, you know which one should go on the left and which one on the right.
All 4 of mine are white. They look as good as new. I don't do much besides dusting them once in a while.
I have 2 white ones and they look the same as they did they say I got them. I don’t dust them. I’ve had one since February and the other since August.
I have 3 black ones. 2 in living room as stereo pair and one in bedroom. I’m not fond of white though it tends to not show dust as much as darker colors do.
The white ones at the store don't look dirty, and they've been handled who knows how many times

The white will get dirtier faster but thinking about it, I went with alot of white echos with clocks in my room, so I guess I should stick with the white. If your worried about stains and such I would definitely get the space grey (looks black to me). I am planning on getting two since I LOVE the feature they pair with each other.

I would say it's more realistic to assume that people are hesitant to touch things during a pandemic than confirming the white ones don't get dirty easily. Plus, it's just been a couple days since they put them out.
look at the date of the post brother. Not talking about the mini or pandemic lol
I bought white and space gray but I’m returning the white. To my eye, the space gray looks better on my bedroom nightstand. The mini isn’t very noticeable in either color due to the small footprint, and I‘m really liking the space I gained on my nightstand switching it out for my regular HomePod.
