Don't know why that works, but it does!

Thank you so much...now I never have to log into Hotmail again :D:D:D

It works randomly

I was able to forward my wife's hotmail to her gmail, but it will not work for my hotmail to gmail.

We both have old Hotmail accounts with WebDAV active. So having active WebDAV on Hotmail doesn't seems to make a difference.

As for keeping Hotmail active without actually doing login, try using Outlook Connector if you use Outlook. One could only check Hotmail with Outlook only if you had paid account or old hotmail account (with WebDAV active), but now MS allows everyone to check hotmail from Outlook.

Since outlook will check hotmail regulary, you dont have to worry about loosing hotmail account.

Thanks for this, took a wee bit of fiddling to figure out that I had to change my location to UK but got it worked out in the end. Been looking for a solution like this for a long time.

Well done fella ! :D

iPhone 3G newbie

This is how i get to my Hotmail account:

1) On your mac(pc) computer, bookmark the sign in page of your Hotmail account.
2) Connect your iPhone 3G to your computer and iSync your bookmarks.
3) Once iSync is completed, go to Safari on your iPhone 3G, and you will be able to upload your Homail account from the bookmarks.

It's a longer process, but works for me! :D

microsoft emails CAN forward to gmail for use with iPhone

Do be careful not to contribute to the spread of disinformation. Its obvious to all that you haven't even TRIED to do this. This is a known workaround for hotmail users in the iPhone Tech Support community.

doesnt work. I get stuck on step 4

Warning You're only able to forward mail to a custom domain or an e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, or live.com. Please try again.

ummmm, so you are saying the people(myself included) that have said they tried it but it doesnt work for them are lying? thats rediculous, being that they WANT this to work for them.

wtf???? what part of it didnt work for me do you not understand? why the hell would I spam? look at the number below my avatar, that means I have been a member of this site for a long time and have over a thousand posts, who are you newbie?:p

ok, got the code via text.

but like others, getting stuck on step 4, only able to foward to hotmail, msn, live.......

how are you getting around this??

My friend bought a 3G and wanted to fwd Hotmail->Gmail. I had been doing this for about 6 months with my 2G so I went to set it up for him.

To my surprise it didn't work  Then I went to my account and removed the Gmail fwd (since my Hotmail is all junk anyway). I tried to re-add it and it worked perfectly.

I think there is a bug in Hotmail that's allowing some people to add Gmail.

Took some time

how old is your acct? Try opening a test acct and see if it works on that

Had to wait awhile for microsoft to get it all straight. Had same error mess on step 4; try waiting, logging on and off, visiting your calendar, etc. It finally just started working for me with no warning -- I just tride my gmail add for the nth time and it went thru. Do follow the steps recommended above. Now just waiting to see if iPhone set up properly but not too woried.

Goodbye SHizymail!

well, i can't get it to work. i've tried about 20 times and keep getting the "only able to foward to hotmail, msn, live......."

any ideas?

and btw, i guess i don't understand what setting up mobile alerts has to do with this? it seems like that's completely unrelated. or am i missing something?

People have to stop using hotmail, the only thing it was good for was MSN (and you don't need hotmail address anymore for that anymore). :/

Can't you guys just open this on your Safari app?

http://home.mobile.msn.com

Hotmail is in the upper left corner......

Em, just out of curiosity. Why cant the iphone do hotmail? It is suppose to be a smart phone right?

Because Microsoft uses a proprietary standard to connect to the free version, unlike Yahoo and GMail which use IMAP.

You can use POP on Hotmail, but that's $20 a year.

OK, if we could eliminate the "just use safari/you need to get rid of hotmail" comments that would be helpful. i've had this email address for years and don't want to change, and half the time safari won't log into hotmail properly (or at all).
thanks.

so, i've been trying to get this to work, but keep getting the "must have hotmail/msn domain" error.

would it help if mobile alerts were still on when changing the setting or something? i guess i'll try that next.

any other thoughts?

well, as i kind of expected having mobile alerts on didn't help. i also switched between "classic" and "full" versions and that didn't make any difference either.

hmmmm....

I have not had any luck doing this either. I've had this hotmail account for probably 10 years now.

i tried switching my location to UK, but that didn't work either....

i'm really confused as to why the would work for some of us, but not others?
there must be some sort of pattern or something...
(puts on sherlock holmes hat)

I've used the izymail route and regret paying the £10.95

I've just set up my girlfriends iphone to forward her 2 hotmail accounts to her new gmail address. She's been complaining that this phone doesnt do nething!

Neway, follow each and every step and it works.

thanks to the OP saved me £20 (for 2 accounts)
