bit off topic...but if you log into msn messenger does that qualify as a hotmail 'login'? this way i won't have to log in every 120 days (i know it's not a great hassle - but would still be nice to know)

I was able to set up my "mail" option on my iPhone to retrieve my Hotmail under "other" - I just typed in my email and password and it verified the information and added that account. Fingers crossed, this has been great in the last week since I set it up.

FYI, I have had my Hotmail address since 1998 and am a "premium" user (meaning that I paid the extra $20/year).

Yea I don't see what's so hard about logging into hotmail.com once a month...

There's nothing difficult about it, but it would be very nice to have your emails zapped right to your phone just like it does with my gmail account.

I'll give the OP's method a try and report back.

4) Then in Hotmail, go to options, and select "Forward mail to another e-mail account". now add your gmail account, and it will let you.

^ I got stuck on that step and was handed this disclaimer:

"You're only able to forward mail to a custom domain or an e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, or live.com. Please try again. "

Yup, this option is only there in 3 circumstances:

1) You have a VERY old Hotmail account - I can't quantify this except to say that I have 2 hotmail accounts and the older of the 2 has it.
2) You pay for the premium service
3) You work for Microsoft and sign-up for the Live dogfood

If that's the case, then I'd consider shelling out the extra $20 for premium service. That's less than 6 cents a day to have your hotmail on your iphone.

Hey guys, this may be a tiny bit off topic, but do you guys know a way to transfer all your hotmail emails onto your gmail, like not forward each time a new email comes, but just to put old emails onto your gmail. And not with the sender being my hotmail address, but with the original address that emailed me. Thanks!
BTW I am using OS X

That's not guaranteed.

I contacted MSN and they said that could work but they did not say it was for sure.

If anybody here have the premium Hotmail account and can gives us some feedback regarding if Hotmail indeed work just like gmail, I would appreciate.

I don't mind paying $20 p/year, but I want to make sure it does work before paying MSN.;)

Truth

If you guys don't mind paying 20 bones a year try izymail. I use it and it works perfectly.

Possibly,
But actually I rather pay MSN if officially gives me the option to use it on the iPhone. Plus I get more perks like higher storage and larger email capacity.

Paying microsoft $20/year ($30 in Canada) for the premium hotmail account has worked for me on two different occasions. I figured this out when my mother was trying to get her hotmail account on her Blackberry a few months ago. I looked online everywhere, looked at Izymail and some other options then I came upon Windows Live Hotmail Plus. She paid $30 Canadian for the premium account and then a few minutes later tried adding her account to her BB again and it worked almost instantaneously.

I bought my iPhone two days ago and tried to set up Hotmail on the phone as is and it didn't work. I googled "hotmail plus" and it took me here: http://get.live.com/en-us/mailplus/features and i signed up for it, paid $20 with my credit card (I am currently living in the US. The Canadian url is http://get.live.com/en-ca/mailplus/features) There is a UK address as well I think. Don't know how much it matters.

Less than a minute after I tried my hotmail account again on my iPhone and it worked.

So if you think the money is worth it (personally I would have paid more than $20 since I have had this email address for several years and I still don't get spam) then go for it.

PS it seems that people who have had Hotmail for a really long time do not have to pay for the upgrade since they are already considered premium users. This explains why older hotmail addresses work already with iPhone, BB, etc. So don't pay unless you have to.

Thanks Goodbye Dell.
I will pay MSN and hope for the best. In your case worked so I am pretty sure it will work for me as well.

As for old accounts being able to use on iPhone without paying MSN in my case it is not true. I have my Hotmail since 1995 and every time I try to forward email to let's say Gmail does not allow me. Go figure if work for some folks.

Anyway, pay $20 a year for microsh•t is not the end of the world, specially because I do not have to go trough the hassle of going everywhere and switching my email settings.

cheers. :)

Does this allow deletion of your emails from Hotmail? Or are you just reading emails from Hotmail and they just continue to sit there...

B/c if you delete it from GMail, it's not deleting it from Hotmail... right?

This topic has already been solved (page 2). If you don't have the option to forward to a non MSN domain then you simply can't forward your Hotmail without paying for the premium service.

And yes, if you setup the Gmail account, forward your Hotmail (if you can), then you're only deleting the copy from Gmail if you delete an email from your iPhone; the original still stays in your Hotmail, save and sound. It's actually a nice backup, because it's not that hard to accidentally delete an email from your iPhone.

Anyone know of a way to do this same thing but with yahoo, i have had hotmail for years but when i got the iphone i switched to yahoo instead of gmail is it possible to foward email to yahoo

I set this up a few months ago when I got my 3G and it works perfectly. I am in the UK and have had my account since 1999. Yesterday I set up my sister's 2 hotmail accounts to forward to her new GMail address and both times it worked perfectly.

For me I just need to be able to check my Hotmail while on the move. Yes you can check Hotmail using Safari but it's not as slick. Since I set this up I never login to Hotmail, although Messenger is always logged in.

You should be able to use this feature to forward to any email address not just GMail.

The reason for going through the Gmail verification is to allow you to send emails from Gmail but they have your Hotmail address as the sender. This only works via the browser and doesn't currently work with the iPhone. Has anyone found a way around this?

If you want to get Hotmail right on your iPhone without all the problems have a look at mboxmail.

Here is the website:
