They just turned the lights on in the galleria apple store.

Looks like the shortage may last a while....

Japan's grip on the global electronics supply chain is causing particular concern. The world's third-biggest economy exported 7.2 trillion yen ($91.3 billion) worth of electronic parts last year, according to Mirae Asset Securities.

"Should the Japan crisis be prolonged, I expect a shortage of electronic parts in the second quarter," said James Song, an analyst at Daewoo Securities, noting Japan provides 57 percent of the world's wafers, used to make the chips that go into mobiles phones, cameras and other electronic devices.

Apple may face shortages of key parts for its newly released iPad 2, according to research firm IHS iSuppli. [ID:nN17232882]

Several parts of the new version of the popular iPad tablet PC come from Japan, including the battery and the flash memory used to store music and video on the device.....

Mcm this morning around 645 am had about 60/70 people in line. I'm in galleria now and about the 30th in line. Much shorter line here

How's the line at the Galleria looking now? Wondering if I should head over there.

Unsure of Galleria, but I just called First Colony and they said they did receive several but the line is quite long and its probably not worth coming now.

Forget it.

If you didn't line up before 7am then there's no chance. Both mcm and galleria are sold out by vouchers. I came at 7:15 and it was still too late. EVERYONE took 2 vouchers each. About tmr's stock, he said "hopefully". Both malls had approximately 60+.

Got to The Woodlands mall a little after 7:30, and I was about 20th in line. They had no AT&T and no 32GB models. I picked up a 16GB wifi black, which is exactly what I wanted. There were about 5 left of those when I got mine.

can you just go in any mall entrance (galleria) at 7 or is it a select few mall entrances?

16GB White Verizon Availalable via B&H Photo

Just got off the phone with them and that's the only one they have available. You can't order online but you can call their 1877 # and have it shipped for free. The other advantage to B&H is that since they are a NY-based store there is no tax.

I'm still holding out for the 64GB AT&T Black model will wait until available. I refuse to go camp or line up in front of a store.

Just called Myerland Best Buy -- they haven't received any shipments since the initial offering. :-(

Went to the Woodlands Target and called the Shenandoah Sam's. Target had none and the lady at Sam's said they were sold out. :( Still no word on my 32GB ATT 3G "reserved" at the Woodlands Best Buy.

I was able to get a 32GB wifi black yesterday, not the white one i wanted though :(, i got it from Galleria, i got in line about 8:20am, i would suggest being earlier like around 6:30-7:00 am considering its spring break and all. i think galleria and memorial have been getting a good amount of stock, anyone confirm?

Watch Out

Ok, so I knew this was going on, but it's still very upsetting.

I went to the Baybrook Apple store this morning after work (I was the guy in green scrubs) and saw that the line was at least 50 deep and Apple employees were saying that they didn't know what/when/if they were getting a shipment. So I said screw it, went into the parking lot, tethered up to my iPhone and searched Target availability.

I found that Baytown Target had some iPads 2s (tracker linky), so I quickly drove over there. I was able to buy the last iPad they had in stock (White 16GB AT&T), but the store manager said I was lucky because some guy just left with 4 of them. He also said that guy was trying to buy all 7 of the iPads that they received that morning.

Seriously people? You're going to buy all 7? Is the economy really that bad that you're going to hoard all of these devices for resale?

On a side note...

On a side note...

It was nice to see that the Baybrook Apple Store employees were documenting the line order so that there was peace and order.

I'm not sure if any of you were at the iPhone 4 launch this past summer at Baybrook Apple, but it was absolute chaos when a group of thugs starting cutting in line and asserting "THERE AIN'T NO LINE, WHAT YOU GONNA DO?, I WISH SOMEONE WOULD DO SOMETHING."

Before they showed up, we had a very organized line with much camaraderie and fellowship. Some nice guys were even cool enough to get their church media equipment to project Avatar on the side of the Sear's building so everyone could have a good time waiting in line.

Here's the thread documenting Baybrook iPhone 4 clusterf*#k.

I cannot purchase mine from an individual. I will be using it for work and expensing it. I need to be able to use my Corp Amex and receive a receipt/invoice.

Don't be discouraged. I bought mine at the Target in the Woodlands on Thursday morning at 8AM. I got the last 64GB White Wifi only model they had in stock. I wouldn't wait for the apple store or best buy, but look at the target information forum on this site and use the Target inventory tracker for the iPad of your choosing. It worked for me.

Good Luck!:)
