Verizon or AT&T???

Hey everyone! The inventory at Best Buys are doing pretty good. I just picked up a 16GB AT&T Black for my friend at Galleria and a 64 GB Verizon Black for myself at Katy Freeway. But I've already opened mine, just to check it out, but before really using it, I'm wondering if I should exchange/sell it to get the AT&T model. Not sure why the AT&T ones have been selling more of. I know if you plan to go international with them, AT&T is the way to go. But what made me go ahead with the verizon is that my 3G service sucks in my area where I live (near IKEA 610 and IH-10). Any advice would be of great help!

why would you use 3g where you live, you would probably be using wifi? I recommend att. Much faster data in and around galleria area, heights, downtown when compared with a verizon ipad. I was getting about 6 down and 1 up yesterday at galleria with my att.

Apple MMC intel

Wow. I went this morning and it was my first attempt. I go into work late and leave early on Fridays, so I figured why not? I was about 50th in line. I have to say the system Apple has worked out is great (short of just making more units). They came by before opening to say how many they got in and of what type. Card system as described previously. I think about 80 total, but only about 30 AT&T's. Those went immediately and as soon as they were gone the Apple guy walked down the line letting us know. I need it for domestic and int'l use, so as soon as I heard that I was gone. Wasted a lot less of my time than I thought I would. On my way back into the city I stopped at Best Buy @ Bunker Hill. Basically staffed by buffoons that looked like they just woke up. Told me none there after he looked over his shoulder in the glass case and then I saw a post that one guy picked up a Verizon. Not that I would have bought that one, but no system. I'll stick with trying the Apple Store based on their organization.

Amazing this thing still has people lined up 2 weeks after release.

So true, I just wasn't sure how great the service was around Houston for AT&T. I'm starting to wonder if I should have just gotten the WIFI one for how much I'll actually be using it. I'll see if maybe I can sell this one.

3g one also has GPS built in, so remember that part. If you are often driving with a spouse or significant other, I have found the GPS in 3G ipads to be a huge benefit on road trips. Good luck!!

Sightings/Information

Sightings/Information:

Last night, I saw Elvis at an Apple Store in Las Vegas. He also wanted to buy an iPad2, but didn't want to wait in line, as he was afraid of the crowds.

Dang! Totally forgot! Haha. I'll see if I can return the iPad I have now to the Best Buy at Galleria. Thanks so much for the help!

Yup that was a huge influencer for me to go with ATT 3G....

...I believe the other handy feature is the "find my ipad" thing. You don't have to sign up for ATT service to use these.

For me, the fact that Verizon wants to charge a $39 "activation fee" if you let the service lapse for more than 3 months was a buzz killer for me.

Not sure if I'll sign up for ATT often (wifi will be my first connection preference) but its nice knowing that the ability to connect is built in if i just NEED to connect.

$39 to reactivate your ipad 3g with Verizon?!? Wow, that is disturbing.

On using the AT&T internationally, can you sign up for a plan while traveling in another country through someone other than AT&T, without jailbreaking? That would be a super convenient way to stay connected internationally for me!

Wowza! That is crazy. Just went back to Best Buy and returned my verizon one, and exchanged it for a black one. Same size, same color, just a different carrier. Seems like they've got plenty. Few people were there. Looked like some walk ins and some reserved ones.

Thanks again for everything!

Hey cvelaim...

Can I ask which Best Buy seemed to have AT&T stock?

On int'l, my understanding is the ipads are not GSM carrier locked like the AT&T iphones are. (Yeah!) That you can walk into a GSM mobile carrier in another country, pop out your AT&T SIM, purchase one of the foreign carriers SIM cards with a pre- or post- data plan and you'll be in business. When back in the US, just swap your old AT&T SIM back in. Definitely stay away from VZ model if you are going to travel int'l. VZ's network is compatible with almost noone outside the States. Cheers.

In stock at walmart - pearland

Everyone, just got back from Walmart in Pearland, the one off of 518 and 288. Picked up a 16gb WIFI black model. The lady said they have about 5 in stock, this is about 20 minutes ago. They have various models she said, didnt say which ones. Id call to ask first, 713-436-2899. I actually checked their website this morning and it said none in stock at Walmart but I still went around 9:30am since I was in the area and of course none in stock. Then I checked their website again at 1:00pm and it said they had them in stock so I took off and picked one up. Do not pay attention to the time and day their website says about the last updated inventory check, it is wrong. Only pay attention if it is in stock or not, that gets updated but for some reason the time and date do not. A couple of other Walmart stores show in stock. FYI, the lady also said that Apple delivers between 11am-1pm at all Walmart stores. Good luck peeps!

Awesome! Thanks for the insight! Greatly appreciated! The one at the Galleria seems to have some the past couple days. They might try to get you to sign up for a Geek Squad package, but just tell them you will think about it, and possibly come back in within the 14 days of your receipt. One guy on Wednesday wouldn't sell me one unless I signed up for the insurance plan, and forced me to choose a WIFI only. I walked out and said I was going to Target instead since he told me that the 3G's were on hold, 2 minutes later after walking out, he calls and says ... Hey we actually have that iPad you were looking for, Black 16GB ATT... if I signed up for the plan. Haha. But ended up going later on and it was a different guy, and right away he just asked which one I was looking for. Sure enough, no push on the deal, just gave it to me!

Katy Freeway also had some, but not many. Galleria seems to be the best bet.

Just went to a local store and they have a few 16 GB white wifi ones. Anyone still need one? Thinking about buying one but not sure yet..

If anyone in houston is still looking, I am returning unopened 64GB wifi and a 32GB 3g (verizon) in galleria area...be happy to tell u which stores before hand. Or if want to pay retail, wont charge any extra and will include the receipt

Was able to help out someone in Houston with the 64 wifi version and was able to exchange the 32GB 3g-VZW for a 64 gb 3g ATT at best buy....woohoo

Glad you were able to help out someone in need :D

By the way, look at Fry's Electronics for iPads. I got my 32gb wifi only from the Fry's in Austin and they had 4 more iPads with no one claiming them at 3pm. I bet they're overlooked by a lot of people out iPad hunting!

Yes you did, & that someone is a VERY happy kid right now.
Plus you indirectly helped out someone on the Best Buy NW Crossing Houston waiting list as they moved up a notch!

I returned my 32 g wi-fi only today. I miss having the 3g I had on my Ipad 1, which I gave to my husband. If anyone finds inventory in Houston, please post. I'm hoping to find one tomorrow, (Monday 3-28-11,) hopefully with AT&T because I like to travel internationally. I don't care what size. Bigger is better, of course, but I could easily make do with smaller because I use cloud storage and don't use it for music.

Thanks everybody!

Any more sightings out there? I'd prefer to buy a Black 32gb or 64gb WIFI model from Best Buy because I have gift cards.

Man for some reason this thread does not read well anymore for me...cant see what anyone has posted since page 15....no idea if this will even work!

Re: mrdave543

Hi. It does seem messed up in the normal view. I changed to "Hybrid view" and can see ok again. Maybe we hit the max. number of posts and need to start a new thread...
