Woodlands Mall Apple store has approx 400 or so people in line by 6pm..Best Buy in the Woodlands was sold out. Spoke to one of the employees who said the plan for tomorrow was to buy a $100 BB Gift Card which would reserve your Ipad 2 model for you..They expect to have another batch available by mid-week next week..After your model arrives at the store you have 48 hrs to pick it up..If you don't it goes back in stock..

I just left the Best Buy near the Galleria they had about 15 or so left. Couldn't tell you which models they had.
Apple store at FC sold out. I couldn't get through to the Galleria or Memorial store. I'm going to try again tomorrow. Hopefully they have some left over or will be getting in a new shipment.
By the time I made it in the store at around 6:30 (First Colony Mall), they told me that they only had Verizon iPads left. I grudgingly went in, asking about the price (I didn't want a 3G). When we made it to the back of the store, he told me "Looks like we only have 16 GB and 64 GB Verizons in black left". I was about to decline and make my way back out disappointed. Then he looked down the desk a few feet away and saw a box for another model and asked if I wanted that one. I couldn't believe my luck as he said "it looks like a 32 GB black wifi model". That was exactly what I wanted...couldn't believe it...I got the last one of the exact model I was there to get!
Oh, and there were at least another 100 people in line behind me at that point.
I forgot to post back here but i was at the Target on Main at 4:30 and there were only 5 iPads (32 GB, no 3G). I was #6 in line so no iPad for me!

I ended up going to the Best Buy in the Galleria. They had 215 iPads, and we were about #150 or so. There was about 250 in line. We waited forever! But
BB was ver organized. I'm very impressed. They handed out tickets for the exact model you wanted. Luckily I got the model I wanted as did my coworker!
They said they're getting more in today, so hopefully they get a good stock in.
And we had some awesome line buddies

All in all, it was actually kind of fun, though I wish I hadn't worn 4 inch heels
to work! It took about 4 hours from start to finish, but we knew we were guaranteed our iPads at about 4:45ish.

Anybody know where else I should consider trying this weekend for a 16 gb wifi iPad , or is it a lost cause?
My impression is that it's a lost cause. There are a few on craigslist if you're willing to go that route, but most are ridiculously marked up. Of course, be careful if you do. Looks like we'll be playing the waiting game until Apple can catch up with demand -- or at least get some more units to the Houston Apple store.
For those of you who waited in the line for the original iPad/iPhone 4 etc., did the Apple store receive any Sunday shipments?
I am also wondering how Apple processes returns. For example if somebody returned an iPad on Sat, would Apple re-sell it again the same day or would the returned stock be processed before opening on Sunday and then be sold on Sunday?
Also, if anybody knows whether Apple receives shipments on Sundays for big launches that would be helpful as well.

If the package was opened or the plastic wrap was taken off, they have to send it back to be refurbished.
If the packaging is in tact and has not been tampered, they will resell it to the next person who wants it.

I just heard the same from an Apple store rep. I don't think there is a single iPad for sale in all of Texas today except for a couple of 16 GB wifi models going for $700 + on Craig's List.
I have ordered one, but I can't stand waiting three weeks! I called around today trying to find one, and I can tell you there are none at the Verizon stores, none at the Willowbrook, Woodlands or Memorial City Apple Stores. The Memorial City Apple store said they all get stock on the same days, and it will be mid-week. I don't know how accurate Best Buy.com's in store inventory is, but it says that there are none of any configuration in Houston.
I am in shock that a city this size got collective shipments in such a small amount.

I wonder if anybody actually bought one of those $700+ 16GB Wifi only iPad2s on Craig's List? I would pay a bit of a premium if it meant getting it weeks sooner but not that high for only a few days sooner.
Heard from a few sources that Apple retail stores usually gets daily shipments in. So hopefully there will be more in stock Monday. No luck Sunday. A few stores told me to try Monday or Tuesday. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope I end up with one tomorrow.
