As big of an Apple geek that I am, I've got no urge to get the watch. I have a couple of really nice watches now that I don't wear. If I were to buy one, it would be with my rewards cc and pay it off right away from my checking account.
If I were into running, it might interest me, but the volume of email I get each day would have me looking at my wrist every few minutes, if not seconds lol
I think it would be more of a bother. But that's just me.

nah, i have my own business with personal income of over 90k per year form it plus i do also attend part-time college. so breaking it down im getting back around 1800 for college tuitions, and rest from income.;)

It obviously depends and if you don't have exactly a steady income, I know its harder. I rather not get a tax refund myself but my income is steady and predictable.

Likewise. I'd rather have my money now. I usually break even or owe a few hundred.

With cash from my bf, i wouldn't pay ~1k for a toy that will be obsolete in 1 year.

I am selling old things I no longer use on eBay to fund the purchase. It also helps me justify the purchase to my wife. Yes, I am getting an Apple watch but look at all the old stuff I got rid of :)

Set it so Email notifications don't go off on the watch, but on the phone only. I believe the Apple Watch iOS app will allow you to fine grain control your notifications that go on your wrist.

This may be a matter for debate lol, but I ain't dumb. I already knew that I could have turned off mail notifications to the watch, but just the general idea of having an iPhone monitor, with the addition of health sensors on my wrist simply doesn't appeal to me. But that's just me. I'm a minimalist when it comes to any type of jewelry or necklace or even rings, although I do wear a wedding ring most every day.
So did this reply add to the thread? I doubt it but wanted to clarify anyway.
Enjoy your watch. I will say all of the different watch faces and the options one can add to the watch face is most interesting and very cool.

But, you're totally fine with letting your BF spend 1k for "a toy that will be obsolete in 1 year" instead?

Umm...

Ok.

Perhaps she is financially independent and doesn't care how her BF spends his money.

Sometimes I wish I had a spouse, but then I realize that it's nice not having to justify my spending habits to anyone else. :D

If I thought an Apple Watch was a waste of 1K, there's no way I'd let someone else buy me one.

This one is coming from savings, but I guess in the long run it's really credit. I'm in grad school, so that just means more living expenses from my student loans. This whole going to grad school instead of getting a job thing better pay off...

I'll be using a rewards credit card and paying it off right away. Gotta get those reward miles and that extended warranty through the CC company.

Some people really need to get there priorities straight. I'm excited for the Apple Watch like everybody else, but I wouldn't even consider it if I had to borrow money or save $350. That money should be going towards a lot more important things than an unproven smart watch.

New Answer

I'll probably pay for it with the salary from my "side" job ;)
Originally I was considering paying for it via withdrawal from my savings account or tax refund.

Good idea!
Okay, maybe I'll put it on one of those cards and make an immediate payment on that same card for the cost of the watch.

Selling off some of my MSFT stock since its stalemated for now.
Same as others, paying with 2% Cashback card and paying off at EOM in full.

Why not just worry about your priorities and not worry about how other people handle their finances?

So you think that we should we live in a communist world where our paychecks go directly to the 'right' things and we have no discretionary spending money?

You say this like you assume they've not got adequate funds for "more important things."

----------

Why isn't there a "I'm buying it with money I've got on hand" option.

I'm not using my savings nor am I paying for it on a credit card.

I assume "cash on hand" falls under "savings."

If you have a good credit card, you absolutely should use it for added buyer protection. Just PIF right after you buy. No interest accrued.

Anyone who runs a proper budget has a place for every dollar that comes in. Any money that isn't used for bills or necessities should go into savings or whatever.

Therefore, since Apple Watch isn't a line item on my monthly bills, then it would, by definition, come out of savings.

Stop being so judgmental and acting like you have a clue what people mean by "savings". It can mean different things to different people. I'd argue that if you just have money laying around for the Apple Watch, you're not managing your money properly and are therefore worse off than the people you think are making poor decisions.

So your telling us what we should be spending our money on? I've been saving my money for a few months for this. Some people spend all their money on booze and cigs, I'm spending my money I've saved on this.

I suggest you stop being so condescending and presumptuous about other people's situations and circumstances. People are entitled to manage their money however they want do with it what they want without people like you criticising them.
