I know right !!.... im just so sick and tired of it. the rattling noise seems to be coming from the fan. it bothers me a lot but i feel that once i get use to it it might not be as bad.. it is indeed an issue though.. maybe when they start doing repairs ill get this machine in for a fan replacement but i dont want to send it out because the chances of me getting this good of a screen an no more issues seems to be pretty slim at this day in time.. it sucks good luck man. as far as compensation .. im just so sick and tired of this i dont want to deal with anything i just a fracking computer.. ugh oh well. btw this one doesnt have any yellow at all i compared it to my 2nd replacement and the screen on the new its far better. also the bleeding is not as bad its more even and there isnt any hotspots.. in other words there are some good screens out there..

Do you have any image retention on the new one?

there is some not nearly as bad as the 2nd replacement... so i think they all have it.. but i got tell you i have been using it like normal use .. i dont see it at all unless i put that grid pattern then i can see it, however the 2nd replacement i could see the retention after like 5 mins of using it.. also i just notice this imac the glue right above the camera is coming off meaning that theres a very small gap between the screen and the body of the imac.. doesnt bother me as much its just an imperfection i might just use double sided tape that everyone is using from "rip those imac open" and thatd fix it.. im just tired of the changing thing i think that the chances to get such good screen are very slim.. i just want to move on. is crappy and am i pissed about it ? yes but i honestly think this is as good as its going to get.. sucks but i like i said i just want to move on.

I'm actually worried after spending some time with my replacement iMac. the backlight bleeding and yellow tint is MUCH worse on the replacement than my original. To the point where you could almost convince me to keep my original one for fear of ending up with another bad one. I'm wondering how far Apple will go if I keep having continuous issues. I have no reason to be confident that my 3rd iMac will be any better than the first two. At this point, I'm just hoping it isn't worse than my original one.

edit: so I guess I'm just wondering.. do I just have really bad luck? or is there a serious quality control problem with the 27" displays?

I had the same quandary as you with my 1st replacement. It was worse than my original. And was going to keep my original!
But decided to give it one more try and my 2nd replacement is pretty darn good. No yellowing and minor bleed!
3rd time lucky!!?!

seriously I feel like I have Stockholm Syndrome here... i almost wish i never got into the replacement game at all.. but honestly, shouldn't I expect better?

I'm just wondering if Apple will just keep shipping me new ones if I keep having problems.. or if there's a point where they won't want to keep doing that?

did you talk to apple about how you weren't completely happy with your second replacement? did they offer any resolution?

My replacement dead again. This time apple sent me to repairation. They checked the machine. The result was about a firmware failure. They need to change both fusion drives and the logic board as well. So I will get another replacement soon with apple's compensation. Apple will compensate me when I tell them I have received my new replacement. I have no idea what the compensation is. Probably an apple store gift card.

Got my first replacement unit. The screen seems to have less background bleeding, and the keyboard sits flat on the surface (wasn't the case before). Unfortunately, there is a small indentation on the stand (see picture). It's not overly dramatic, but given the price of the device it shouldn't be there. That's clearly something QA should've noticed.

I still have the original iMac with a flawless stand here, is it easy to replace them?

You literally need to take everything out (including the logic board).

Wow Sorry Edry,

I actually know how long you actually did wait getting pissed in the forums. I followed it for a long time. Hearing about these minor build issues I am glad I went with the Mini but i feel for you man. I think it has a lot to do with expectations. After the epic wait and all the hype you expect perfection and to finally be satisfied. I guess life doesn't always work out like that. However if you reframe the situation it will become way better. I agree I probabily would have settled for rattling over screen issues after the 3rd time. To continue would be a cycle of madness. I do think that after a few months you will accept the rattling more and come to enjoy the machine and start working with it who knows if you can get them to open it up and find a solution to the noise you would be very happy once again. Best wishes

Thanks for the quick response! So replacing it myself definitely isn't an option. I'll wait what my Apple rep has to say when he calls me back on Wednesday. If everything else is flawless, I'll consider keeping the unit, but on the other hand I don't see why Apple even let's such things get out. Well, to be honest, stuff like that happens and when you're working in a factory and have to look at thousands of stands every day it does makes sense that it would happen. It's just not nice from a consumer perspective, when you drop that much money on the iMac.

Yup, I hear you. A bit dismayed at quality control on the iMac myself. I'm considering a mini if all else fails.. but I do really like how simple an all-in-one is.. fingers remain crossed..

I am in the same boat :( Waiting for my 3rd replacement. If this one has a yellow screen I might try the 21.5 iMac or go with the Mac mini.

Thank you. Those are very very kind words. I appreciate it and thanks for understanding my frustration. :)

I feel your frustration too.

Apple's been pretty good through this process.. and understandably, there's only so much they can do. I do think that they should have better quality control, but it is what it is. I did manage to persuade my support rep to allow me to hold onto my first iMac while I wait for my second replacement. This saved me the trouble of having to transfer all of my stuff. Plus, my second replacement was horrible, and I want to hold on to the better of the two. edry, I know you had a similar problem, and I feel your pain. It's annoying to be in flux. But Apple was helpful enough to make it as easy a process as possible. Hang in there everyone!

got my replacement finally - it is much better than the original - there is still a slightly warmish hue on the very bottom of the screen, but after calibration it is so slight that I am willing to live with it.

My imac has a little light bleed nothing to major. Though I do have a constant fan noise always that is audible if im not watching tv or listening to music. I made a genius bar appointment but should I even bother going for a replacement? The noise bothers me now but I guess over time. I;m just worried maybe its the hard drive? Any opinions?

I noticed some yellowing at the bottom of mine, but if I move my head down and look straight-on it's not yellow. With such a large screen, I don't see how it can be uniform across the whole screen unless you move back a considerable distance. It's more an issue that it's not pure white even off 45 degrees. I wonder if laminating the glass reduced the color purity at lesser angles. I don't have the previous rev screen to compare, but am curious.

I hear the fan in my healthy iMac as well, but it's very quiet, far quieter than my external backup drive, if that helps any. I do notice it at times in my otherwise silent office. The clacking of my keyboard is much louder.

I wouldn't. I'm not sure why people are returning iMacs for fan noise. It's perfectly normal. Computers need cooling... simple as that.

iMacs, historically have had sort of loud fans. There are acceptable and expected noises, but then there are those that sounds like a plane trying to take off or a train passing by you over and over and over... I had an iMac for a few years (first Intel iMac) and the fan noise was just atrocious. If the person absolutely cannot take the noise, then they should take it back. If it's a little noise, then no biggie.

yeah i agree but i've seen a lot of people returning iMacs because they can hear the fan, period. That seems excessive to me..

It's fine. I mean, if you pay over $2k on a computer it shouldn't be the loudest thing in the room tbh. And honestly, I'd do the same. This'll be the first time I've gotten a high end iMac in years that wasn't a refurb or a cheap low-end version, and I've been using the iMacs since they very first came onto the scene (still have a graphite iMac stored away someplace).

I admit when somebody says they hear their fans making a sound that resembles a slight wind, it's sort of weird but hey, to each their own.
