Well for arguments sake can I change "driving" to "whilst in a car cradle/dock". People spend time sat in their cars (with the ignition off) with their phone sat in the cradle, waiting to pick kids up from school, waiting to meet people etc. FaceID clearly won't work in this scenario where TouchID does. That is what I am trying to spark a discussion about, not whether you think I am using my phone illegally whilst driving.
Yes it will, as long as the angle is near the screen, per Apple's keynote today.
I haven't used FaceID yet, i don't know if it will work in that scenario or not. My phone doesn't point at my face when I'm sat in my car seat i'd say I'm usually at least at a 45 degree angle to the screen. If that will work brilliant, if not its a pain.
Guys, as much as I want it to return, I cant see touch ID returning again to the phone. They removed the entire concept of the home button from IOS 11 - do you think they will bring it back for touch ID? Have they EVER brought back a feature out of regret? It's not gonna happen. Face ID will be fine, let's have a little faith in Apple.
Obviously I'm not narcissistic enough to think the aimed solely at me. But I defended and embraced every single one of the things you just listed from the moment they were announced at their respective Keynotes. This is the first time I feel there is a huge flaw in the new phone that is big enough to stop me adopting at release. I hope I'm wrong and its better than I think its going to be but I'm not prepared to splash out a grand on the hope that i'll 'get used to it'.
It works fine at that angle (as long as your looking at the phone) on my pos galaxy s8 plus, so u imagine apples made sure it works here.
Well thats something at least. I'm not here to bash it for the sake of complaining. If its going to be fine in some of the scenarios I am concerned about then that is great news. I think the biggest thing for me at the moment is how much longer/fiddly Apple Pay looks to be using FaceID. I use Apple Pay so much nowadays and I don't feel prepared to give up TouchID.
It's as close to perfect (for me) as I could ever expect something to be. The only minor drawback is wet hands but I hardly ever find myself in that scenario. To me TouchID (especially the 2nd generation sensor) is the single best thing Apple have done since Steve Jobs passed. It's one of the only new features that has really changed the way I use my phone and what I can do with it (Apple Pay) on a daily basis.
Forgive my ignorance but where can Samsung pay be used where Apple Pay can't? Here in the UK Apple Pay works on any contactless terminal, so as long as the shop offers contactless payments then Apple Pay works, even if they don't specifically list it as a payment option.
You can use Samsung pay even at places that don't offer contactless payment. Just the old regular sliders. Puts off a magnetic field similar to the magnetic strip of a credit card.
Ah ok. I'm not sure that's the same scenario over here. We either have contactless and/or chip and pin. I'm pretty sure people can't use their androids on a standard chip and pin that doesn't take contactless over here.
In Europe nobody uses that anymore.
