When I got my AWU3 last year in September, it failed to pair over and over and over until I finally went home and tried there with WiFi - strangely enough.

It takes forever to get those going out of the box and updates are so painful. Really crazy how long it takes.

So two hours, and it’s still preparing.

Hopefully the 27 update will be more swift.

Did you check which OS version it was on when you received it? Or did it start updating when you tried to pair it?

It started updating by itself.

this is a brand new, not refurb, right? might have been on watchOS 11?

It forced me to update, so I have no idea what OS was on it.

Yes, to my knowledge brand new.

I cancelled the pairing, and starting again.

I can't remember at which point it is asking you - but, did you do the "restore from backup" or "setup as new"?
I strongly recommend setting up as new

This is ridiculous.

Got stuck on adding a card, so I closed the app.

Now it’s starting all over again.

I think this watch is a dud.

Get AppleCare on it and discuss it with the issue
